Novice Trick #1
2on/2off
This is a simple trick once your dog is comfortable being on a platform.
The goal is front feet on the ground, rear feet on the platform.
let's talk dog training
Open to talk about anything and everything for the next 15 minutes or so.
Chronicles of Rainy day 2:
Today she went with me to a friend's place and I observed her behavior seeing another completely neutral dog.
She lunged, barked incessantly, head lowered hackles up, but her body was loose. Large, sweeping movements, then mock charging and stiff. Then back to relatively soft posture. Relatively. She seemed conflicted and very interested in the other dog. That dog was an older dog that doesn't need to be bumped into, so no actual introductions.
I decided to let her come in contact with Fezzik. Fezzik was tethered in the beginning and a friend was standing with him to offer him moral support. Rainy came in hard, fast and forward. I had her on leash and I didn't let her just slam into him. Once she made contact she lowered herself. Very quickly Fezzik was untethered and loose. When they played she mostly tried to stay under him. A couple times she put her head over him, but only briefly. They played really hard, lots of slamming, lots of vocalizing. (Fezzik's typical play style) Neither dog got stiff or seemed uncomfortable.
I had Fezzik chase a treat a few times to give her space and she wanted back in every time.
But here's the real beauty... Right before this play session, Rainy still wasn't eating treats. While playing, when Fezzik was on a down stay, she would follow my treats and eat them!! Even with him a few feet away. This is excellent!
I have video but I still need to edit and shorten. I'll try to get day 1 done tomorrow. Maybe day 2 also.
And now we're outside where she was being super reactive yesterday and she hasn't said a word. Here's a video of that.
Zelda learning how to return the toy rather than own it forever!
Our next big project is teaching her how to accept pets from strangers. She loves people and gets so excited that she can't handle being petted without jumping, nipping, and whining.
