National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is observed annually on January 9, and it is a day to express our gratitude to the police officers for all their hard work and for protecting the community.

Those who join the police put their lives on the line every day and are often not appreciated enough.

On this day, we show our support and express our gratitude for our town's Law Enforcement units, as well as their amazing K-9 officers and their canine partners!

Meet the Team Monday! We want to introduce you to our Lead Client Service Representative, Emilie! Emilie has been part of our team since the fall of 2022. Emilie came to our hospital with experience, having been in the field since 2018.
She likes to use her skills to help grow the human-animal bond and make connections with the pets we see and their people.
She enjoys being in veterinary medicine because animals are vital to human happiness in a lot of cases and a sick animal compromises their happiness and their humans. Veterinary medicine helps keep animals happy and healthy.
Outside of work she enjoys crocheting, hiking and yoga. She has two cats as well, Bubba and Obsidian.
Here she is photographed with her favorite office-mate, Cloud (who belongs to Dr. Song!)

Today is National Whipped Cream Day. Do you like whipped cream? - What's not to like?
We use whipped cream here in the hospital in small amounts as a distraction and positive reward for pets that are visiting. Part of our Fear Free mission is to give pets positive experiences while here in the hospital and distraction can help with that. In turn, we hope that pets aren't as fearful or anxious for future visits.

Oral health is not only important for you, but for your pets as well! With your recommend yearly and bi-annual exams, our Doctors will include an oral health evaluation while they are preforming a full exam on your pet.
With some pets it can be tricky to do a full oral exam, so routine dental care is recommended as well, so that we can fully assess your pet's mouth health including the underlying bone and tooth structures. This procedure requires them to be under full anesthesia.
There are some things you can do at home to help prevent dental disease including daily brushing, check them out!

January 2nd marks a distinctive and important celebration- World Introvert Day. This day is dedicated to those who thrive in relaxed environment, value limited social interactions and find bliss in their own company.

They are among us, who find joy in solitude and inner reflection. This global observance serves as a reminder that introversion is not a weakness but a strength, offering the world a quieter, contemplative perspective.

Meet the Team Monday! Today we want to highlight one of our Veterinary Assistants, Lexi. Lexi started at EMPAH early fall of 2024. She was born and grew up in California, but now calls the Pacific Northwest her home. Lexi is new to the Veterinary field, and is excited to learn new things every day!
Lexi has interest in being a wildlife rehabilitator one day, and volunteers and the Bird Alliance of Oregon and OCCRA (wildlife capture and transport).
She enjoys birdwatching, baking and hiking outside of work and is home to an Axolotl named Gomez and a Crested Gecko name Jack Jack.

The holidays are a time for food, friends, family, and fun. What’s not to like? Sadly, for many of our clients’ pets the holidays just mean fear, anxiety, and stress.

Starting with Halloween and continuing through December and the New Year, the holidays we love bring a lot of changes to the environment and our schedules, changes that can lead to distress for pets.

Following is a list of just a few holiday associated triggers that might cause fear, anxiety, or stress (FAS) in pets:

-Increased number of visitors in the home
-Decorations that change the appearance of the home and result in furniture being moved around
-Fireworks
-Travel or boarding
-Changes in work schedules

As your clients’ trusted pet care provider, you can help ease and prevent that FAS from taking hold at this happy time of year by sharing these dos and don’ts. Check out the following link for more information from Fear Free Pets:
