Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is an important disease of domestic cats. It occurs worldwide in cats of all ages, but the disease is most common in young cats less than two years of age.
FIP appears to be more common in cats that live in multi-cat households, shelters, or catteries. Cats that are stressed due to re-homing, have recently had surgery, or have concurrent infections (more than one infection at a time) may also be more susceptible to developing FIP. Genetic factors are also thought to contribute to the development of FIP. Male cats are affected more often than females. Purebred cats, including Abyssinian, Bengal, Birman, Himalayan, Ragdoll, and Devon Rex may be predisposed to developing FIP.

🐾It’s an unfortunate fact that nearly 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have periodontal disease by the age of 3. Many pets don’t display signs of problems even though they are in pain, so getting your pet used to having their teeth brushed is good for their health and wellness.😁

While it’s best to teach your pet to accept toothbrushing while they are still young, adult dogs and cats can be trained. It may take a little longer, but it’s worth the effort. Associating rewards with the sessions, before, during and after, can help keep dental care a positive event.🐾

Rats are popular family pets. They are extremely intelligent, inquisitive, interactive, and social. They can be easily trained to come when called and readily learn to perform tricks on command. If they are well socialized from a young age and treated gently, they are easy to handle, affectionate, and rarely bite unless provoked. Rats generally make good family pets but should never be left unsupervised with small children. 🐭

Here are some Halloween pet safety tips to avoid toxicities:

🍬 Keep candy away
Chocolate can be toxic to dogs, and many sugar-free candies contain Xylitol, which can also be harmful to dogs. If you think your pet has eaten something with Xylitol, call a veterinarian immediately.

🌟 Keep glow sticks away
Glow sticks can release a bitter liquid if punctured, which can make pets drool and act strangely.

πŸŽƒ Keep pumpkins out of reach
Pumpkins can cause an upset stomach in pets, and lit pumpkins can burn pets if they knock them over.
πŸ’€ Keep decorations out of reach
Decorations like fake blood, faux spiders, and spider webs can be a choking risk and may contain poisonous chemicals.

πŸ‘» Don't force your pet to wear a costume
Costumes can stress your pet and make it hard for them to see, move, and breathe. If you do dress your pet, keep the costume simple and easy to take on and off.

🐢 Supervise your costumed pet
Never leave your pet unsupervised while they're wearing a costume so you can monitor their behavior.

😺 Keep your pet's ID up to date
Make sure your pet's ID tags are accurate and that your pet is microchipped.
