The eyes are not only the windows to the soul, but to the overall health of the body. Blue came in to see us three months ago not feeling well and with terrible eye inflammation. After prompt testing, Blue was diagnosed with the ocular form of Feline Infectious Peritonitis, or FIP, a viral disease that’s fatal to cats if not treated. His owners swiftly obtained the antiviral medication for him, a medication that had only been discovered this year! After 12 weeks of oral medications and many eye drops, Blue graduated his FIP treatment on Christmas Eve! Dr. Baron, veterinary assistant Olivia, and Blue’s owners couldn’t be more excited for him! Congratulations Blue!
If you notice your pet experiencing squinting or experiencing eye redness, these can sometimes be signs of a serious condition, and it would be best to have your pet promptly evaluated by a veterinarian.

It’s great fun to celebrate the holidays with our pets, but make sure you keep track of what they’re eating! Keep your pets safe with these five tips:

1. Alcohol poisoning can cause serious complications, so keep wine glasses and beer bottles away from sneaky paws.
2. Try to keep cats from climbing Christmas trees, as kitties could knock the trees over and seriously hurt themselves in the process.
3. Almost all traditional winter plants, like holly, poinsettias, and mistletoe, can cause severe organ damage if pets ingest them. These plants may look pretty, but think twice before bringing them into your home this season.
4. Shiny, sparkly wrapping paper, and ribbon look like fun toys, but pets can accidentally ingest them while playing. Clean up as soon as gifts are opened.
5. Many holiday treats are full of fruits, like raisins and grapes, and sweets, like chocolate and xylitol, that are toxic to our pets. Keep that plate of treats in the kitchen and away from pets.
