Here are five fun facts to celebrate National Cat Day:

1. Cats sleep a lot: On average, cats sleep 12–16 hours a day, which means by the time they are 9 years old, they’ve only been awake for about 3 years of their life!

2. They have an impressive jump: Cats can jump up to six times their body length in a single leap, thanks to their powerful back legs and flexible spine.

3. Cats have a unique purr frequency: The frequency of a cat’s purr, which typically ranges from 25 to 150 Hertz, is thought to be medically therapeutic. It’s believed to promote healing in bones and tissues, both for the cat and even for humans!

4. Their whiskers serve multiple purposes: Cat whiskers aren’t just cute—they’re super sensitive and help cats sense their surroundings. Whiskers can detect changes in the air, helping them navigate spaces and judge distances.

5. Cats have a "vocabulary" of meows: Cats don’t typically meow to communicate with other cats—this behavior is mostly reserved for humans! They have developed a wide range of meows to express different emotions or needs, from hunger to affection, each with its own unique sound.

Keep your furry friends safe by avoiding giving them human treats, which can be harmful. Be cautious of decorations that may pose a choking hazard, and supervise them closely around any open doors or windows. We wish you and your pets a happy and safe Halloween!

Don’t let your pet’s Halloween go from spooky to downright deadly! Keep your pet safe with these five tips:

1. Keep all candies, especially chocolates and anything containing xylitol, out of your pet’s reach, as they are extremely poisonous to cats and dogs.
2. Keep black cats inside for a few days around Halloween. They are more likely to be pestered this time of year.
3. Make sure pet costumes don’t have small pieces your pet could swallow.
4. Keep pets away from pumpkins. Though they aren’t poisonous to cats or dogs, they can cause blockages if your pet swallows big chunks.
5. Keep your pet away from the door so she doesn’t try to escape when you’re giving candy to trick-or-treaters.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! Here are 5 tips to keep your pet safe during this chocolate filled holiday!

Dude enjoyed his first dental chew with his friend Melissa until he forgot about it….but then he found it again! 🤗 happy 1st puppy visit Dude!

Chilly came in for his wellness exam with Dr. Amsler. He was a little nervous at first, but once he had a taste of cheese 👀 nothing could stop him from wagging his tail!

I bet you’re wondering “Wow, whose horse is that?” Why, it’s Angus! Happy National Horse Day! There are a handful of us here at EPAH who have horses and we thought we’d ask one of our wonderful techs what makes these majestic creatures such amazing animals. Here’s what she had to say: “While all creatures great and small are wonderful, horses have a special place in my heart. They were my first love. Horses have been by our sides helping our own species over thousands of years, just like dogs and cats - they are the reason why our modern day is so advanced! I get asked often about their intelligence, especially compared to smaller pets, and I feel that they never get the credit they deserve. They may find mundane things like plastic bags to be terrifying, but I think it’s important to remember that they think differently than us, their vision is different than ours, and they process things much differently. However, they are incredibly emotionally intelligent. If you have loved a horse, you would understand this. Having a bond with an animal that weighs 1200lbs+ where there is trust on both sides, trust for neither of you to hurt each other, is unlike anything else. To quote Sharon Ralls Lemon, “The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and freedom.”’
