BAD Daddy Jeff!
Last Thursday I posted in the wee hours that we were headed off on an adventure and then…cricket, cricke, tumbleweed, tumbleweed.
Well a lot happened that day, the next day and the day after that. Time to catch y’all up.
Our big adventure involved meeting up with the one and only, Teran, of Phido Photography at Saddle Dam, about 15 miles from The Lair.
It will be a bit before Teran will have his beautiful images avilable for us to look at, so until then some things I took will just have to do.

Days. Weeks. Months. I have sat down hundreds of times not knowing where to start the conversation, for reasons I will share with you later. Then I came across a post from Final Frontier Rescue Project, who also partners with Mutts Coffee, and felt the courage and inspiration to join the conversation with our Ohana.
Like FFRP and nearly every other SMALL rescue/sanctuary we have empty bank accounts. Seriously, if you look at social media communications from organizations that are like us, you will quickly become aware that every last one of us is struggling. I mention this becuase the last time we made a desperate plea, we were told by many we were the “problem”. No, its an epidemic affecting so many rescues and sanctuaries.
Like FFRP and all those other resuces, our bank accounts are empty. EMPTY. That said, we have obligations to meet and the animals don’t care if the bank account is empty. As a sanctuary “closing intake” doesn’t address the long term care and needs that are required. So, since November 2023 Papa Michael and I have been funneling money into The Angels to cover the basics, to the tune of $15k…at least. We have lost track. No, we can’t afford that and according to the IRS we aren’t legally allowed to do that. That is another story.
I have to stop for now…as I have to take Gnomema to an appointment. There will be more details coming. For now, please read this message from FFRP:

We're down to less than $100 in the bank. Last weekend, our founder put up $1000 of personal funds as a match. We did not make it but she donated the $1000 anyway and it's already been used to pay bills. We have a raffle going and it's barely raising any funds.
We're certainly not the only ones. We follow posts from Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue and others who save animals whom very few rescues will help. We're all struggling.
Even if you donated last week, if you are able to donate again, we need you.

We have had the heat for a few days. I refuse to be dramatic about it. It has been in the 90’s with a breach or two into the very low 100’s. It happens every year once or twice.

Papa Michael’s recovery from his oral surgery has been rougher than he expected. He has spoke to the doctor to confirm that there is nothing concerning to address at this time, he is still experiencing challenges with weakness which is exacerbated by lifting and ending over; they drilled into his sinus cavity. He stayed home from work on Sunday (about 36 hours after surgery) and went to work on Monday. He made it, but he felt like he struggled all day. So he is off today again to rest some more.
We ask for donations because we need them.
