It is the start of
GOLD STAR FAMILIES REMEMBRANCE WEEK
running September 24-30, 2023.
If you know a Gold Star Mother and Gold Star Family please take time to let them know that the sacrifice made by their son or daughter on the field of battle and their family are not forgotten.

Dear family and friends,
We're heading into 2024 understanding that many if the dogs we have placed are 10+ years old. SFLS turns 12 in January 2024.
We have reports of some going to Rainbow Bridge and were saddened to hear about them. We are standing by to support those folks.
One of our vets who lost his dog went to his mental health provider (VA) to get a new letter of need. He was told that because some new studies show that service dogs do not help veterans. The studies said that service dogs keep veterans from dealing with their trauma.
So they will not give him a letter!!!
We certainly do not believe these "new studies"!!!!!
We would be interested in your thoughts about service dogs.
Hoping you all are well and taking care of yourselves.
Regards,
Larry, Cathie, and Suzy
Someday's he just wants it to end
Someday's he wants to live to be 110
Someday's he'd like a beach house in South Carolina
Someday's he's walking a trail in Indochina
Someday's he can still hear
"Corpsman Up" in his left ear
Someday's he thinks he should start drinking again
Someday's he remembers the day he lost a good friend
Someday's it's this , sometimes it's that
Someday's he feels like he's caught in a trap
Someday's , if all the days were lined up in a row ,
he remembers the day he thought he'd never live to be
19 years old .
Well, God decided it was time for our big guy, Baloo, to go to rainbow Bridge. In his life, of about 13 years, he was abandoned, he was rescued, he was a service dog, and he was a loving BIG part of our family. He and his big slobbery kisses will be missed. Run fast and hard big guy !!!!

Hey SFLS family. This is Daisy who has been in training to be a service dog. About 48 hours before meeting her veteran she started showing signs of being ill. Doctor has verified that she has Addison's disease. This diagnosis means she cannot be a service dog. Her designated Veteran drove from Colorado to Texas to get her and he had to go back home with out her. Our volunteer trainer's son has set up this GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/b5c81fc9 page to help us recover the funds we had to spend on Daisy. If you can help we'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Larry

Dear family and friends of SFLS ,
You may or may not know that our web site is gone (literally).
We do not understand why, but it just is.
We plan to start rebuilding it but don't know how long it will take us.
We will try to a better job of communicating with you on our page.
Hope all of you and your families are doing well.
Thanks,
Larry, Cathie, and Suzy.

A great pup who will be missed terribly by his family . He lived a great life and helped 2 families in his journey . See you at the rainbow bridge buddy . You go run and find Gus and Bailey and enjoy eternity you have more then earned a place in the heavens .
Wonderful news!!!
We got a call from our friend Chris in Newport, Washington yesterday. He and his family organize "Bob's Car Show" held on Labor Day in the city park in Newport.
Before SFLS relocated to Texas, we were honored to be the recipients of the money raised at the car show.
The latest call from Chris was to tell us that SFLS had been designated to receive a donation from 2022 event.
We both honored and humbled by announcement.
PLEASE all of our family, friends, and supporters in the Pacific Northwest make plans now to go to Newport on Labor Day and attend Bob's Car show.
It is an incredible event!
Well, 57 days ago, July 1st, I started my recovery from double bypass open heart surgery. It has been a long and difficult process. I was not used to having to have people take care of me. I was not used to not driving. I was not used to not being able to pick up a gallon of milk or open and close a car door.
But, with the support of my family and friends and the terrific team at Audie Myrphy, I am looking forward to a much better rest of my life and making memories and enjoying my 28 grand children and 6 great grand children.
It is with great sadness that we have learned SD Obi has gone to Rainbow Bridge. Please send prayers and good thoughts to our veteran Jay as he and his family feal with this tragic loss.
Friends and Supporters,
Work at SFLS is going to be severely slowed down effective May 31st.
Lead trainer Larry has to have double bypass open heart surgery. The procedure will have him totally offline for 30 days and on limited duty for 30 more days.
Cathie and Suzy will be holding the fort down.
We'll let you know how surgery went on June 1st.
THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! To the Ladies Auxiliary, Middle Hope Fire Company, Inc. in Newburgh, NY for your exceptionally generous gift !!!! You have no idea how much we appreciate your support!!!
Wishing you all the very best,
Cathie and Larry Griffith
It is with profound sadness that we say good bye to SD Gus ( aka GusGus) and send good thoughts to Vet Alex. Gus lost his battle with cancer. Gus came to SFLS after having his front leg deliberately broken and he was chained to a gate. We'll see you at Rainbow Bridge GusGus!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS to the SFLS family, friends, and supporters. We hope all of you ( or as they say in Texas - Y'all !!!) have had a great holiday. We will have our first vet of 2022 here on January 8th. We're hoping to place 10-12 service dogs this next year.
As 2021 comes to an end, we'd like to ask you to think about an end of the year donation to our program. We have a PayPal account that makes it really easy.
Thanks for all your good thoughts during 2021!! Welcome to all the new folks who have liked our page.
With love and respect,
Larry and Cathie Griffith
Ivana Ramirez , thank you so much for your continuing support. We hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
Greetings all !!! Thanks to all of you who are new to us. We have had many likes over the past couple of months. We have team #159 working as a trainer assist. Vet Veronica and SD Rico are here in Texas and doing great!! We are anticipating having team #160 here with us in early December. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!!!
We have sent team #158 home to Georgia. Shane and SD Pippa are going to be a great team!! Sorry, no photo yet.
Hoping this finds our family and friends safe and healthy. We here in Texas are surviving and have even been able to get some dogs paired up with vets!!! Stay well dear friends!
SFLS Family, we had a thunder storm wipe out our Vonage modem. So our toll free phone number is down. It also took out our internet modem, but that was easy to get replaced.
