Blackburn Foundation Quarter Horses Blackburn Foundation Quarter Horses Welcome to Blackburn Foundation Horses page. The Blackburn Foundation Quarter Horse Ranch has 2 locations.

The South Unit is located approx 40 miles SE of Minot, ND. The North Unit is 23 miles East of Minot, ND. Our roots in the horse business run deep - back several generations. My grandparents used foundation horses, utilizing the Blackburn lineage that Harold Schaefer brought up from Texas with own daughters of Blackburn. Relatives of mine help haul those mares up from Texas, and worked on the origi

nal Blackburn ranch in Bismarck, ND. Our founding stallion (Deceased), Mr Blackburn 946 is a double bred Mr Blackburn 40, AQHA Champion, sire of AQHA Champions, ROMS, Superior Perf Awards, & NRHA money earners. Our Broodmare Band is full of his daughters and granddaughters. One of his sons, Blackburn Grulloczar, stands stud, along with Jaz Acero Hombre, SR My Poco Blackburn, & SR My Poco Tee J. The broodmare band is full of Blackburn, Poco Bueno, King,& Pretty Buck lineage. Most of the mares go back through Perty Buck Poco X Mr Blackburn 41 X Pretty Buck. Mr Blackburn 41's get earned 142 AQHA PTs, ROMS, Show Perf Awards, and NRHA money earners of $5665. We offer historically proven genetic bloodlines & pretty color as a bonus. Our program is built on Performance, Foundation, & Heart. My family has used these horses in Rodeo, AQHA Shows, 4-H, Ranch Horse Competitons, Open Shows, Trail Riding, & on cattle. BLACKBURN #2228 is still listed as #5 of the All-Time Leading Broodmare Sires of AQHA Champions. This is quite a feat considering that BLACKBURN was foaled in 1927. POCO BUENO sired 36 AQHA champions, 18 of which are from daughters or granddaughters of BLACKBURN. POCO BUENO is listed as #3 of All-Time Leading Sires of AQHA Champions. All Horses are 5 Panel Tested N/N

Blackburn Grulloczar has these 9 mares bred for 2025.
5 of them are daughters of Jaz Acero Hombre. This cross has proven to be exceptional. These Hombre daughters are out of Blackburn bred mares. We also repeated some bell ringers with Stitch, Holly, Annie, & Kona, for some linebred Blackburn lines
Blackburn Grulloczar has earned his ROM in Performance. AQHA Points in Ranch Riding and Reining. He is a money earner in NRCHA.

Mr Blackburn 2111 aka Butter ~ Deceased 06/2024.
We were very fortunate to have these 3 mares bred to him.
These 2025 foals will be heavy Pretty Buck/Blackburn bred
Blackburn Legacy Ranch (Kentucky) - Tony & Marti Janes had Mr Blackburn 2111 for a few months and he bred 2 of their mares. Both of those mares are daughters of Jaz Acero Hombre and out of Mr Blackburn 946 daughters. Tony spent alot of time getting Butter started under saddle, and I thank him for that. Tony & Marti Janes were co-owners of Mr Blackburn 2111.
We all wish the story hadn't ended.
Mr Blackburn 2111 was a once in a life time kind of horse. Thanks to Lindsey Beving for putting together a perfect pedigree.

Blackburn Mc Zion ~ his first year as a breeding stallion, and he handled it like his grandsires. He is an old soul, this c**t. He was booked to go back into training for a show career in the fall of 2024. He got sick with Colitis and we almost lost him. He has fought to stay alive, every day. We have developed quite a bond since August. He is almost 100% better, and maybe next year he will get his turn in the arena. Justina Bilby and I THANK YOU all for the prayers for his recovery.
Zion bred the very best of our Blackburn mares, and we even gave him a few daughters of Jaz Acero Hombre as well. I'm super excited to see his first foal crop.
