🐾 Karina update: Adopted in September, 12 year old Karina was VERY shy at SFAR, and a potential adopting couple came in hoping to provide a good home for a cat, with no expectations of how she would respond. They said yes to this sweet girl and look at the results ❤️ Her dad stopped by St. Francis to let us know how well she is doing! She's enamored with her Mom and is slowly but surely beginning to trust her Dad. They can now often be found hanging on the lanai together! “Katrina has brought joy and laughter into our lives."
Thank you to Karina's new family and to everyone who is willing to give our beloved cats a second or third chance at an amazing life! 🐾

🐾 Charlotte, 8 years old, is waiting for her forever home and family-she’s right here with us at St. Francis! We received the loveliest note from Charlotte’s foster mom, who is hoping her words will touch that one special adopter’s heart and take her home 🙏🏻
❤️A NOTE FROM CHARLOTTE’S FOSTER MOM ❤️
“Coming back to the shelter was traumatic for Charlotte. She essentially shut down and stopped eating. The St. Francis staff were worried about her and asked me if I would be willing to foster her for a while. Fostering for St. Francis is something I love to do, especially because it is a significant way of supporting the cats who are in the shelter's care, so I readily agreed to take her home with me.
I have a room in my house dedicated to fostering, and this has become Charlotte's space since I brought her home. The first night she was at my house, Charlotte hid under the bed. But by the next morning, she had happily settled into her new home and started to eat again.
If I hadn't already been a "foster fail" too many times, I would be tempted to adopt this sweet girl myself!
Charlotte always greets me with a "meow" when I go in to visit her—she is quite talkative. She immediately starts her purring engine and starts making biscuits with her paws. She loves belly rubs, scratches under her chin, and being petted in general. And she is always up for some treats! If she had a choice, I would guess that Charlotte would want to be by my side as much as possible.
Because I have dogs as well as other cats, she hasn't had the opportunity to be with me outside of her room. She also does not seem to be concerned that there are other animals in the house.
If you are looking for a senior cat who will give you lots of love and affection, consider taking Charlotte home with you! Bonus Charlotte's favorite fluffy blue bed 🛌 will go home with her!”
Make a difference in their lives, one feline at a time- for more information on adoption and fostering please go to www.sfarvenice.org. They thank you from the bottom of their paws!🐾

🐾 An update on Minnie Toast! Last week we posted our story on Minnie Toast, but some questions remained unanswered. We now know more about her rescuer, and their story is such an amazing inspiration! Minnie’s guardian angel says that their story will be helpful “for people who do not want to contact animal services because they think the animals will be put down.” Her and our hope is that people will call SCAS more if they are better educated about the process. “Thank you for helping the little fur babies that don't have a voice that we can understand.” We are so grateful to Minnie’s rescuer and know Minnie will find her forever home and humans quickly. If this story encourages more followers to call Sarasota County Animal Services when they see stray felines, we have made good on our mission of saving lives, one feline at a time ❤️🐾
We posted Minnie Toast as available for adoption, and what little we knew of her story on our page. Sarasota County Animal Services had contacted us and said they had a feline with two microchips-one with our name on it, and another with her current owner. That owner relinquished her to SCAS, and they in turn contacted us-we retrieved her with no hesitation. A few days after our post, we received a message from a follower. “ I just saw that Minnie Toast is with you and up for adoption. Minnie is the stray that I started feeding-I had been seeing her at night on my ring camera! I noticed that she was getting pretty skinny and didn't know if she belonged to anyone. After I fed her, she would sit at my door and wanted to come in. I have a new puppy (10 months) and wasn't sure if they would get along. I would leave the screened patio door open with food, water, and a bed, she could come and go. I was afraid for her because we have coyotes around. When my puppy got out in the patio with her, they did get along. She was very good with her, I knew that Minnie had been with someone that had loved her as she was a sweet cat.” She posted information on Minnie on a community page when she was looking for her owner, mentioning she was contacting animal services for help. The responses were very negative. “I called Sarasota County Animal Services, because if I lost my pet, I would miss them. I'm glad to see that she has made it to a safe place in St. Francis. Has she found a forever home yet? Thank you for caring for these wonderful little heart stealers.” She also wanted to be reunited with Minnie to give her a proper goodbye. She came in to see Minnie, and Minnie came running to her when she heard her voice! They had a wonderful visit. She told us she would love to take her home, but, combined with her husbands illness and their age they thought it best for her to be adopted into a forever home for the rest of her life.
For more information on Amimal Services, please visit www.sarasotasheriff.org. Their goal is to help reunite lost animals with their families. If you are missing a pet, they keep a list of animals that are reported missing and those that are found in hopes of making a match. Together, we all can come together to make a difference ❤️ 🐾

🐾 Today is National Cat Day! It’s a perfect time to introduce you to Frannie, Tigger and Banyan.
“Older cats don't stop needing love - they just ask for it more quietly. Listen closely, and you'll hear the same kitten heart still beating." These beautiful seniors have recently lost their pawrent, who requested that they be cared for by St. Francis until we can find them loving homes. She was a volunteer with us and cared for our permanent residents. Listen to your heart -you need them as much as they need you ❤️ For more information about them, please call us at 941-492-6200.🐾

❤️Nancy has been adopted! ❤️🐾 1 year old Nancy is a very friendly young adult. She was abandoned in early October in a cardboard box at the front door of SFAR prior to the shelter opening 🤷‍♀️ The person knocked on the door and walked away. Nancy was put on stray hold and SCAS was notified. She’s ready to find her furever family now!
Note: If you find a stray feline, please call Sarasota County Animal Shelter. We are not able to take in strays as there is a protocol that must be followed with SCAS, and we simply do not have space or a vet on staff that can assist with any emergency medical issues. We also have a lengthy wait list for those who wish to relinquish when they can no longer care for their felines. We were able to keep Nancy with us as an exception to the rule. We periodically visit SCAS, and bring felines back with us if their microchip is registered to us as a second party when their current owners can’t be reached, or when we have space, which is very rarely the case. Nancy is a very lucky gal, as all the stars were in her favor. Will she be lucky again and choose you? 🐾

🐾 🎃 Not Evil. Not Spooky. Not bad luck. Simply beautiful!🎃3 year old Arabella is a lovely and sleek black cat with a tinge of cinnamon brown in her fur. She has one small spot of white on her chest and has a beautiful, cinnamon-colored, fluffy tail. Arabella is not very adventurous at this point, but she is good-natured and waits patiently for someone to come to her to give her attention. She will show you that she is happy with headbutts and air biscuits. She also has a bit of a mischievous side to her! Come in and meet her tomorrow! 🐾

SFAR Venice

St Francis Animal Rescue of Venice is a 501(c) limited admission, free roaming, no-kill cat Rescue. Established in 1994, we support 100+ cats and kittens on-site and 75 in short and long term foster care. 30-40 cats are available for adoption, with the remainder in our care permanently or in long term care. The shelter is funded by donations and a thrift store. We have a small team of employees to manage, medicate and clean. A dedicated volunteer team of approximately 50 individuals do whatever is necessary to keep our shelter and thrift store operational. Cats in our care receive medical treatment from local veterinarians. Foster care families care for kittens until they are ready for adoption and others help to socialize cats who otherwise would be considered unadoptable. We consider ourselves a rescue and try to focus on helping cats who, without rescue and care, would not be adoptable and would likely be euthanized.

We assist our community with education on cat behavior to keep cats in their homes. We provide referrals to other rescues to free or low cost spay and neuter clinics in the area. We support trapping for TNR programs. We provide donated food for feral colonies and furnish food to families and food banks so pets can remain in their homes.
