Due to recent news in the media about a new repiratory illness that is spreading between dogs, we wanted to take a moment to share some helpful tips to help protect your pets. There are no additional vaccines at this time and the cause is still unknown. In addition, some cases are taking longer to resolve. We are hoping this wave will pass soon, but in the meantime, don't hesitate to reach out if you have more specific questions.

Happy National Recycling Day! Let's all do our part to protect our planet, one small act at a time. Together, we can make a big difference. πΏπ

As we approach the holidays, please donβt give pets as gifts. Turnover rates increase just after the holidays, and shelters can get overwhelmed.
If you plan to bring in a pet, adopting an animal from a shelter not only gives them a second chance at a loving home but also helps create a more compassionate world. Let's make this a month of hope, compassion, and endless tail wags. πΆπΊβ€οΈ
Let's celebrate the incredible dedication and love that shelter staff and volunteers pour into caring for our furry friends. These unsung heroes give animals a second chance at happiness and forever homes.
Show your support, adopt, volunteer, or donate today! πβ€οΈ

This is Kinako! She is almost 1 year old and was at Ohana for bloodwork before her spay! She was very curious to meet everyone and got lots of love!
Did you know rabbits have a remarkable ability to jump? They can leap up to 3 feet in the air and cover a distance of around 10 feet in a single jump. This incredible agility helps them escape from predators in the wild and is also a playful behavior you might observe in pet rabbits. π°
Romble is an 8 month old rabbit and a patient at Ohana!
Ohana means family, and over the years we have had family members come and go. You might find yourself wondering, "where are they now?" We thought we would share a glimpse into the lives of some of our Ohana that have moved on, like Dr. Kayla Asato.
She is one member of the team of skilled veterinarians at Koolau Animal Hospital, a veterinary practice that has served the local community in Kaneohe, HI. for over three decades. She is now the practice owner. Dr. Asatoβs veterinary journey began years ago as a veterinary technician at Koolau Animal Hospital where she returned in 2019, as a doctor. In the interim, Dr. Asato joined Ohana Pet Hospital right after her small animal rotating internship, where she worked closely with Dr. Jill and Dr. Jan for four years.
Dr. Jill and Dr. Asato both attended Punahou School which holds a notable reputation as the alma mater of former President Barack Obama. This was a welcome surprise for both doctors and an opportunity for Dr. Asato to be united with hometown friends and mentors on the mainland.
We are so thankful for Dr. Asato and her time at Ohana!
Beginning on Saturday, 11/4/23, our Santa Paula location will be temporarily closing on Saturdays until further notice. Our Ventura location hours remain the same.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
It's Animal Safety and Protection Month, a reminder that our furry, feathered, and scaly friends depend on us for their well-being. Let's pledge to keep them safe, healthy, and loved, today and every day! β€οΈπΆπ±π¦
When coming to the vet, it's important to take steps to keep your furry friends safe. Even if your pet already has a harness or leash on, a slip lead is required at Ohana to prevent our furry friends from slipping out of their harness or leash. Coming to the vet can sometimes make our pets nervous and react in ways they typically don't, so adding a slip lead can help us all feel more secure. We also encourage you to bring cats in a carrier when visiting Ohana. This keeps cats safe from escaping and dogs that might not react well.
