Team VetSurg had a wonderful time visiting our friends at Ohana Pet Hospital! Over lunch, Dr. Holsworth demonstrated how our surgeons approach orthopedic exams for dogs of all sizes.
The Ohana team had the opportunity to ask questions and learn hand-on techniques for identifying lameness, joint pain, joint instability, ligament and tendon pathology, back and nerve pain, and other orthopedic issues.
We love collaborating with our local veterinary community to share knowledge and enhance patient care! ⭐️💙

Goose visited us for a same-day surgical discharge following a gastropexy and neuter performed by Dr. Ludwig. Thanks to our minimally invasive techniques, procedures like Goose’s allow for quick recovery, making same-day discharge a safe and comfortable option.🐶
Our advanced surgical methods, combined with thorough monitoring, ensure pets are stable and ready to recover in the comfort of their own home. Gastropexy, in particular, is a preventative procedure that protects deep-chested breeds like Goose from the risk of life-threatening bloat, offering peace of mind for pet owners.🐾
We wish Goose a quick recovery! We look forward to seeing him soon for his re-check appointment.😊💙

Meet Diana, she came to VetSurg after injuring her knee with both a traumatic Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CrCL) tear and a tear in her lateral collateral ligament. In this post, Dr. Webb walks through the exam process - first performing the cranial drawer test to reveal the CrCL instability, then applying joint opening pressure to asses the lateral and collateral ligament tear. To alleviate her pain and restore stability, Diana underwent a right TPLO surgery with an Internal Brace. Swipe to watch Dr. Webb's examination and see Diana's pre-op and post-op X-Ray's!

We are thrilled to announce that VetSurg now has advanced fluoroscopic intra-operative imaging!🩻 Our new Genoray Oscar is a state-of-the-art, 23cm flat-screen unit that provides real time continous X-ray imaging, bringing unparalled precision to our orthopedic surgical interventions.
With this technology, we can guide orthopedic wires, pins, drill bits, and screws in real time, positon bone plates with absolute accuracy, and create precise bone tunnels for fracture repairs and joint stabilization procedures. The level of precision we acheive with fluoroscopic assistance allows us to perform surgeries in a minimally invasive fashion and elevate the quality of care for our patients significantly. We are deepy grateful to everyone who helped make this possible, and we’re excited to see the positive impact this technology will have on our patients and their families. 💙

Internaitonal Lunch Day, Round 2! 🌏🇦🇺Last week, we brought a taste of Australia to California, and it was a hit! Our day was filled with classic Aussie Favorites like meat pies, sasuage rolls, spud pies (aka Shepherd’s pie!)🥧 , and of course, we couldn’t forget dessert! We indulged in lamingtons, rocky road, and violet crumbles to satisy our raging sweet tooth.
Huge shoutout to for making and shipping us those delicious Australian delicacies!
Australia holds a special place in our hearts here at VetSurg, with Dr. Webb, Dr. Holsworth and Dr.Ludwig all being Australian citizens with some variation in their other family origins. It was a joy to bring a little bit of ‘home’ to the hospital today.💙🐨

We recently reached an exciting milestone by peforming our very first procedure in our fourth operating room… OR 4 is live! 🩺
After months of planning and preparation, we welcome this additional operating space to our existing three OR’s. We have outfitted this OR with state-of-the-art anesthesia, surgical lighting, digital imaging, and patient care features to allow safe and effective procedures to commence.
Dr. Webb performed an intricate elbow joint fracture repair as the first procedure to be performed in OR 4. All went very well with our maiden voyage and we’re thrilled to have another OR up and running, and we look forward to many more successful procedures ahead…
Wishing our patient a smooth and speedy recovery! Swipe to check out the patient’s pre-op and post-op x-rays from the procedure. 🌟

Say hello to sweet Honey🍯, a 6-month-old French Bulldog who consulted with us after suffering from a painful knee injury known as a tibial crest avulsion. This fracture injury detaches the kneecap (patella) tendon and if not fixed permanent disability and lameness is present. After evaluation of Honey and her radiographs, Dr. Holsworth strongly recommended surgery to repair the fracture and restore stability to Honey’s knee.
Today, Honey is back for her two week re-check appointment after surgery, and we are thrilled to share that she’s healing beautifully! Swipe to see her pre-op and most recent post-op X-rays. We can’t wait to see her back to full stength soon! 🏩💙

Last weekend we were invited to Colorado State University in Fort Collins to help instruct specialist surgeons from around the country and from overseas in canine shoulder surgery. We were proud to attend as faculty and help organize this annual teaching event that serves to benefit our canine shoulder patients. Dr. Holsworth has played an active role in designing and delivering this successful course for the past 8 years. Fort Collins did not dissapoint as the weather and activities were excellent! 🏔️🐕

Meet Santa Claus🎅! Santa Claus consulted with Dr.Holsworth for 4 months of worsening right hind leg lame ness… rest and medication were ineffective and surgical treatment with arthroscopy and TPLO stabilization was needed… a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) is a surgial procedure that treats a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in a dog’s knee.
The surgery involves cutting and rotating the top of the tibia (shin bone), then stabilizing it with a metal plate and screws. By adjusting the angle of the tibia, we reduce the stress on the knee and help stabilize the joint, relieving pain and preventing further damage.
Swipe through to see behind the scenes of Santa Claus’s TPLO journey, and stay posted to see how he recovers! ❤️🐶

Luna’s Recovery Update✨
Luna came in for her 3-week re-check after her tumble a few weeks ago, and we are thrilled to report she is healing well! Her X-rays show no signs of the greenstick fracture- just what we were hoping to see… and her stiff ankle after having a cast on the leg is now back to normal range of motion.
Not only is her leg on the mend, but Luna’s also grown so much since we last saw her!
Swipe through to see the healing progress she has made, and compare her initial X-rays with the latest ones from her 3-week recheck visit.
Keep up the great work, Luna! 🐾💙

Luffy recently underwent Perineal Urethrostomy, a critical surgery for cats dealing with severe urinary blockages. This condition can cause extreme discomfort and pose serious health risks if left untreated. To address this, we surgically created a new, wider opening in Luffy’s urethra, which will help prevent future blockages and allow him to urinate more easily.
This surgery is common for male cats like Luffy who suffer from recurrent obstructions, as their narrow urethra can easily become blocked by stones or debris. We’re happy to report that Luffy’s surgery went smoothly, and he’s now on the mend! 🐈😺

Meet Luna!🌚🐶… this adorable 10 week old fluffball of a Newfoundland had a trip-and-fall this weekend only two days after joining her new family…. and broke her leg!
Fractures are classified into different types depending on the bone broken, the number of bone pieces present, and their overall severity…. Luna has a non-displaced greenstick fracture which will very likley heal with a support cast and will not need surgery… if she doesn’t trip and fall again!
We were happy to assess her and build a recovery cast for her right back leg and will continue to monitor her fracture healing over the next month…. good luck fluffball!💕
Stay tuned to see how she does!
