I started attending the Renaissance pleasure fair with my Mother in 1966. My mother was an actress with the Los Angeles Art theater. She knew actors that were coming to support the fair and had booths or were doing
some theater there. I was about 10 years old. The fair was very innocent and new. If you rode a horse
in you didn't have to pay... It was small and intimate...
As an adult I tri
ed applying to have a booth at the fair. I originally wanted to sell crocheted items that I made from hand spun wool that I dyed with vegetable dyes, as well as other natural fibers. I had a spinning wheel and did my own spinning of the wool. I applied for the fair 3 times but was denied. So then in 1984 I decided to try and get a job at the fair. I was hired to work one of the information booths At Agoura, Ca fair. In those days they required that you take workshops and so I went that year. With me I brought a shopping cart full of some of my crocheted items. I thought that if I could get people pre fair to buy some of my items and wear them, then maybe the fair would notice my craft. One of the people who bought a pouch from me was Dan Henning, a potter who was on the craft jury. All items had to be juried in and he really liked my things and told me he was going to recommend me
to the jury. So the next year after working the information booth, I applied again and that's
when I got in. I was so very excited, I was a single mom with 4 small children and so this seemed
like an amazing opportunity. I had no idea at the time the path all of this would take me. Who knew I would still be there over 28 years later. You can still to this day go to the California Renassiance fairs and find Ye Bag W***h booth. My first booth back in 1985 only sold pouches on sticks. Currently you can now purchase a variety of crocheted Unique hats and accessories. My stalk consists of H**p, cotton, wool, shredded muslin fabric as well many other blends and combinations of fibers. i still hand dye many of my fibers before crocheting them. you can purchase from a vast variety of styles or have a custom order created just for you.
