You probably won’t remember this, but years ago, I had a rescue border collie with serious health issues. She could only eat a very narrow range of foods, and your turkey stew fit the bill. During the pandemic when I was having trouble getting it, you shipped me some directly from the warehouse when I told you of my plight. Two dogs later I’m still using it. "Writing a review about cat food is somewhat akin to writing a review of a restaurant. Like a person, a cat's palate varies. For example, I'm not a fan of Spaghetti Alfredo. It could be made by the most elite chef in the world, and I would still pick a Spaghetti Bolognese from a down-home family style restaurant-even if the sauce comes from a tin.

But you can review quality, and here Caru Pet Food is notable for being human-grade. Meaning that it's legally suitable, safe, and FDA-approved for consumption by a human. In other words, it's exceptionally high quality pet food. I normally feed my now middle aged cat Stella, who I adopted from A Second Chance Rescue (https://www.asecondchancerescue.org/), a combination of dry and wet age-appropriate food.

Caru's product is soupy, but considering that cats get most of their hydration from wet food, the consistency makes abundant sense. When I initially fed her Caru's Chicken Stew, the consistency threw her off. It was different from her regular wet food. However, I'm happy to report that Stella completely laps it up. I even pair Caru with the dry kibble I use and Caru's food is always devoured first. Fortunately, a 5oz box lasts about 3-4 feedings making the price per box well worth it.

I, or rather Stella is a permanent customer, I (we) recommend giving Caru a try. Nutrition is linked to heath, and if we eat human grade foods, so can our beloved pets."

Our Story

No, that’s not a misspelling – our Golden Retriever spells his name with a K! We’re Pamela and Adrian Pettyan, proud pet parents and Canadian medical professionals who ran a primary health care center for families in our local community. And yes, there really was a Karu!

Practically from puppyhood, Karu had constant ear infections. To address this problem, our veterinarian suggested a homemade diet consisting of pure, healthy, nutritious food.

From the day we switched Karu to this new dietary routine, we found that he was more playful and healthy. From our health care background, we couldn’t understand why there weren’t pet food products at our local stores that were as good as what we could make at home. So in close collaboration with an accomplished animal Ph.D. nutritionist, we created a complete line of nourishing meals and treats that are as good as homemade food.
