What NOT to Feed Your Pets on Thanksgiving 🦃🐾
Holiday food smells amazing, but some traditional dishes can be dangerous for pets.
Here are the big no-go items to keep off their plates:

Turkey skin, drippings, and gravy (very fatty → pancreatitis risk)

Turkey bones (splintering hazard)

Turkey twine (yes… they eat it)

Stuffing + sage (onions/garlic/herbs can be toxic)

Raisins & grapes (can cause kidney failure)

Onion & garlic (any form)

Nutmeg (even small amounts can be dangerous)

Macadamia & other nuts

Mushrooms (especially non-store-bought)

Fat trimmings & fatty leftovers

Corn on the cob (blockage risk)

Chocolate + candied yams

Butter / very rich foods

Unbaked bread dough (can expand + cause alcohol poisoning)

Alcohol (even small licks)

Safe alternatives: plain turkey (no skin), green beans, carrots, pumpkin purée, or their favorite go-to treats.

If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, we are here 24/7 throughout the holiday.
Wishing you and your four-legged family members a safe, cozy Thanksgiving! 🧡🐶🐱

Thanksgiving is just two days away on November 27th, which means a whole lot of delicious food is about to hit the table… and the floor… and the counters… and basically anywhere pets think they can “help.” 😅🦃

Before the celebrations start, here are some quick Thanksgiving food safety reminders:

• Turkey bones = choking + obstruction risk
• Turkey skin & gravy = pancreatitis trigger
• Onions, garlic, leeks, chives = toxic to dogs & cats
• Raisins & grapes (stuffing/salads) = kidney risk
• Xylitol sweeteners (desserts & rolls) = emergency situation

If your pet sneaks a snack they definitely weren’t supposed to have, or starts vomiting, acting “off,” or seems uncomfortable — we’re open 24/7, no appointment needed.

Let’s keep Thanksgiving thankful this year. 🧡🐾

REMINDER: Many primary care veterinary clinics will be closed or operating with limited hours over Thanksgiving. 🦃🍂
If your pet needs a medication refill or supplies, now is the time to contact your regular veterinarian to request those ahead of the holiday.

Our hospital will remain open 24/7 for emergencies.
We’re here if your pet needs urgent care — day, night, and throughout the holiday.

Stay safe, and give your pets some extra scritches from us! 🐾💛

How does your pet show up during the holidays? 🎄🐾
Are they mischief and mayhem (stealing ornaments and sniffing the turkey)
or cuddly and cozy (blanket burrito mode activated)? 😼🦃
Maybe they’re the life of the party 🎉 or more of a “I’ll be in my safe corner, thanks” introvert. 😌

Thanksgiving is a big day for good food… but not everything on the table is safe for pets. 🦃🍂
Here are 5 items to keep out of paws’ reach this holiday:

Raisins & Grapes
Even small amounts can cause serious kidney problems.

Macadamia Nuts
These can lead to weakness, tremors, and vomiting in dogs.

Corn Cobs
They seem harmless, but they can easily cause a dangerous intestinal blockage.

Cooked Bones (Turkey, Ham, etc.)
They splinter, which can lead to choking or internal injury.

Xylitol (often found in baked goods, peanut butter, mints, etc.)
This sweetener can cause a rapid and life-threatening drop in blood sugar.

Holiday excitement can make it easy for pets to get into things they shouldn’t, so keeping these items up high and covered is a simple way to stay safe.

We hope your holiday is warm and full of happy memories. If you need us, we are here 24/7 for emergencies. 🐾💛

🚨 Public Health Reminder: Rabies Confirmed in Albemarle County. We want our community to be informed and prepared.

Key reminders:
✔️ Rabies is preventable with vaccination also it’s required by Virginia state law
✔️ Any possible exposure is a medical emergency including bites, scratches, and any contact to open wounds
✔️ Changes in behavior—staggering, aggression, unusual friendliness, or excessive salivation—are red flags
✔️ Outdoor cats are at high risk, even in rural neighborhoods, but indoor cats are required to receive the vaccination as well

Please ensure your pets are current on rabies vaccines and keep them supervised outdoors. If you see a wild or stray animal acting abnormally, contact animal control immediately.
Your vigilance keeps our community—and your pets—safe.
