Gun Runner’s SIERRA LEONE was crowned Champion 3YO Male at the 2024 Eclipse Awards! His stellar race season was capped off by a win in the $7,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic in his first test against older horses. Trained by Chad Brown, Sierra Leone was campaigned by the partnership of Peter M. Brant, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, Westerberg and Brook R. Smith.

Bred in Kentucky by Debby M. Oxley, Sierra Leone was purchased from the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale for $2.3 Million.

Congratulations to Gun Runner duo SIERRA LEONE and SOCIETY who are both nominated for Eclipse Awards!

SIERRA LEONE, bred by Debby M. Oxley, finished the year with a victory in the $7,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI). Earlier in the season the Chad Brown trainee captured the Grade I Toyota Bluegrass Stakes and was runner-up in the Kentucky Derby (GI).

SOCIETY, a homebred for Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds, won the Ballerina S. (GI) at Saratoga by 3 ¼ lengths and was second in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (GI)!

In fact, he got his day in the Grade I sun when scrambling home in the Santa Anita Handicap, before coming home first of the older horses in the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic. Lightly raced sister Denims and Pearls was a Grade II winner this year, and Newgate’s looks are going to drive plenty of trade his way.”
