Breed Spotlight: Dachshund! 🐾

Dachshunds (aka wiener dogs) are known for their distinctive short legs and long bodies. They originate from Germany where they were bred to hunt badgers because their small size allowed them to crawl into burrows.

Fun fact: “Dachshund” actually means “badger dog” in German!

Dachshunds have three coat varieties: smooth (like our sweet girl pictured here), long haired, and wire-haired. Because of their background, they are tenacious and fearless by nature which often leads to them taking on much larger dogs without hesitation.

They can be a stubborn breed, so training and exposure is crucial when they are young. Overall, Dachshunds make loyal companions that can thrive in any living situation!
