Took Rocky for his first trail ride ever and did it solo! Gun shots and 40+ deer running through the woods never phased him! Also trotted a nice pattern afterwards

Jema is wondering why were line driving again😂
It is never a bad thing to go back to basics and start over. A lot of horses need a refresher when young. I love ground work and all mine continue to do ground work no matter how old they are because it keeps them fresh on basics and their mind thinking.
This one really benefits from starting from the ground up due to a prior accident that we thought we could work past and could not due to how she was handling everything mentally but this is why I believe in ground work and why when I get on a horse for their first ride I expect them to respond to pressure and mouth cues and then add in leg cues and such after the first two or couple rides. This mare shows potential but needed a fresh start to get back to work
Never be scared to try something new😍
I learned how to rope at a really young age and then got out of it because as a girl you couldn’t compete back then. I have now decided that I want to do it again since girls can compete now.
Learning new techniques is the hardest thing cause I wasn’t taught some of the things I need to do the correct way.
This is all new to Kimber but she started to understand how to track the dumby last night and doesn’t care about the rope. We’re going to learn all this together but Im grateful for a mare that takes everything in and wants to please and will do anything I ask her to do❤️
It’s the nights walking around the back field after I ride I enjoy❤️
Ruby is really starting to get more confident🤩
Trotted a whole lot more and just kept going!
Lots of distractions with riding with another unbroke horse and had someone cantering all around her and all of us talking and of course the dogs wanting to walk next to me and was not phased at all🤍
Ride #2 on Ruby last night🤍 this mare has really been showing trust in my all week and is making big leaps now!
When I first got her it’d take me about 10-15 minutes to catch her, now she’s starting to walk up to me!
Working with a horse that doesn’t know how to trust fully in someone is harder because you have to get them to trust you before you do anything. Lots of ground work and showing them they are okay. Understanding their boundaries and how to get in them, knowing if you made a wrong move and backing up before you startle them to much.
I’m so happy with how far she has come, yes it’s taken longer to get her here but everything we did led to this, to have the first rides be smooth and willing and a good experience for her🤍
*I do not own the rights to this song**
Ruby came to me to be started under saddle and she’s already made huge progress!
(This is video is over a week old but I am horrible at getting videos when it’s just me out there)
