Meet Meeka! 🐾
This beautiful 2-year-old female Husky has already been through so much — but her spirit is unbreakable.

Meeka was found roaming the streets, malnourished and in need of urgent medical care. She was covered in fleas, ticks, and open sores, and weighed just 38 lbs. With love and care in her foster home, Meeka is now thriving — and once she reaches a healthy weight, she’ll be around 50 lbs.

Despite everything she’s been through, Meeka is one of the sweetest souls you’ll ever meet. 💜
She’s gentle, affectionate, and eager to please. Though shy at first, she warms up quickly and just wants to be loved.

🛏️ Crate Trained (yes, even for a Husky!)
🚗 Great on car rides
🧼 Enjoys baths and brushing (even lets you touch her paws!)
🐾 House-trained with zero accidents
🐕 Good with other dogs (Cats and small children are unknown)
🎓 Working on basic commands and socialization

Meeka is currently being treated for heartworms and will be spayed once she gains more weight. She will also be fully up to date on vaccinations and flea prevention.

If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this amazing girl, please call 361-433-7393 to schedule a meet-and-greet.
📢 If you already have dogs in the home, they must be up to date on vaccinations and participate in the meet-and-greet.

Let’s help Meeka find the forever family she deserves. 💕
Please share to help her story reach the right person!

🎒 Back-to-School Pet Adjustment: Transition Tips

As the kids head back to school, your pets might be feeling a little… confused. The sudden change in routine can lead to boredom, stress, or even separation anxiety. But a few simple steps can help your furry friend adjust smoothly!

🐾 Separation Anxiety Prevention

Ease into the new routine gradually if you can.

Try leaving for short periods and rewarding calm behavior.

Leave a cozy blanket, a treat puzzle, or an old t-shirt with your scent while you're gone.

📅 Adapting to New Routines
Pets thrive on consistency. Stick to regular feeding, potty, and playtime schedules—even if school mornings are hectic.

🏃‍♂️ Don’t Skip Exercise!
A tired pet is a happy pet. Morning walks or backyard play can help burn off energy and reduce stress before you leave for the day.

Remember, this transition affects them too—so a little extra love and attention goes a long way. 💛🐶🐱

🧬 Immunity Information: What You Should Know About Pet Vaccines

Vaccines aren’t just shots—they’re protection.

🔬 How Vaccines Work:
Vaccines teach your pet’s immune system how to recognize and fight off dangerous diseases before they’re ever exposed. It’s like training their body’s defenses so they’re ready for the real thing.

🚫 Common Misconceptions:

“Indoor pets don’t need vaccines.” False—many diseases spread through the air, insects, or contaminated objects, like your shoes.

“My pet already had this vaccine once.” Immunity fades over time, so boosters are needed to keep protection strong.

“Vaccines do more harm than good.” Side effects are rare and far less risky than the disease itself.

🛡️ Risk Prevention = Peace of Mind:
Vaccines help prevent serious (and sometimes fatal) illnesses like parvo, distemper, rabies, and feline leukemia. They also protect the community by stopping outbreaks before they start.

Vaccines save lives, we’re here to make sure your pet gets the protection they need.

💉 Vaccine Fundamentals: What Every Pet Owner Should Know

Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to protect your pet’s health. They’re not just for puppies and kittens, adult pets need protection, too!

🐾 Core vs. Non-Core Vaccines:

Core vaccines are essential for all pets, including Rabies, Parvo, and Distemper (for dogs) or FVRCP (for cats).

Non-core vaccines depend on lifestyle and risk, such as Bordetella (kennel cough), Lepto, or Feline Leukemia.

📅 Vaccine Schedules:

Puppies and kittens need a series of boosters to build immunity.

Adults need regular boosters, usually every 1-3 years, depending on the vaccine.

Don’t skip! Delaying can leave them vulnerable.

🛡️ Why Vaccines Matter:
They don’t just protect your pet, they help stop the spread of disease in our entire community. From deadly viruses to preventable illnesses, vaccines give your furry friend the strongest chance at a long, healthy life.

Not sure if your pet is up to date? Give us a call, we’re happy to check for you!

🐾 Pet First Aid: What Every Pet Parent Should Know

Accidents happen, but knowing basic pet first aid can make a huge difference in an emergency. While we hope you never need it, having a plan (and a kit!) ready can help you stay calm and act fast.

👩‍⚕️ First Aid Basics:

Bleeding? Apply firm pressure with a clean cloth or gauze.

Burns? Use cool water (not ice) to rinse the area.

Choking? Carefully open their mouth and look for an object, don’t blindly reach.

Injury or trauma? Limit movement and get to a vet ASAP.

Vomiting or diarrhea? Withhold food for a few hours and monitor, call us if it continues.

🧰 Build Your Pet First Aid Kit:
Here’s what to keep on hand:

Gauze pads & non-stick bandages

Adhesive tape (vet wrap or medical tape)

Tweezers & blunt-tip scissors

Digital thermometer (and know how to use it!)

Saline solution or sterile eyewash

Antiseptic wipes or spray

Hydrogen peroxide (for vomiting, only when directed by a vet)

A muzzle (injured pets may bite, even their humans)

Emergency contact numbers: your vet, an ER clinic, and poison control

Keep your kit at home and another in the car if your pet travels with you, just in case. And remember, first aid is not a substitute for veterinary care, but it can help stabilize your pet until you get here. ❤️🐶🐾
