Amidst all the dreary weather, there was a little ray of sunshine... Yesterday was Gracie's birthday! She is the newest Veterinary Assistant on our team, but definitely not the "greenest" with two years of experience. She keeps a level head and good energy no matter what we've got going on. You can always depend on her and she's never afraid to do the hard stuff. We are so lucky to have her! Please take a moment and wish her a happy belated birthday. 🥳🎉

Our office will be closing early today at 4:30 pm due to inclement weather. It is in the best interest of our staff, patients, and owners to keep everyone safe. We will resume normal business hours Tuesday August 6th at 7:30 am.

July is absolutely packed full of celebrations here at VVC! We couldn't let the day end without wishing our Katie a happy birthday! She's currently an RVT student and will be done before she knows it. She has really stepped up her game here at the clinic lately and is KILLING IT! You won't meet a more kind, loving person than Katie. We are so lucky to have her! Please help us wish her a happy birthday!

July is Lost Pet Prevention Month. In the U.S., more pets go missing in July than any other month of the year. 😿 Here are a few helpful tips to ensure your pet stays safely at home! 🐶
✅ Microchip your pet! If they already are, make sure your information is up-to-date.
✅ Keep pets on a leash when outside of your fence.
✅ If you are planning a celebration with a large gathering and loud noise, provide a safe place with toys and a comfortable bed. Consider turning on the TV to drown out the noise. 🙉
✅ If you're traveling and plan to have a sitter come check on your pet, check your yard for holes in the fencing, and inform your sitter of any triggers your pet may have that would cause them to try to flee. If you're taking your pet with you, plan ahead for secure crating and if needed, a sedative to keep calm during travel. 😸

With heavy hearts we share this post as we have lost one of our own. 💔 Dr. May's boy, Beamer, recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge peacefully in his home after an acute illness. 🌈 Beamer showed up at the Mays' house as a young dog back in 2013 and had been living his best life ever since. He knew what he was doing when he picked Doc's house. 😉 Beamer enjoyed taking road trips with his family, getting into mischief with his sidekick Millie, greeting clients at the clinic, being spoiled by his gals there, and sneaking treats (shhhh 🤫). Beamer has also saved a life or few over his lifetime by being a blood donor for sick patients. He truly was the bestest boy! Please keep Dr. May, Mrs. Suzanne, and everyone here at VVC in your thoughts and prayers during this time of grief.

We've seen a major increase in upper respiratory infections in our K9 patients! To best protect your pet, here are a few things to consider: if you're traveling and plan to board them, make sure they're vaccinated with appropriate vaccines at least two weeks prior to allow their immune system time to develop sufficient immunity. Don't forget boosters!
If your pet is coughing, wheezing, congested, or has ocular/nasal discharge, consider quarantining them from other animals and make an appointment with your Vet. 😸

We are looking to add an experienced Veterinary Technician/ Assistant to our team. We value teamwork and providing high-quality medicine to every pet, no matter the circumstances. We also love providing personal and attentive care to our patients and their owners with every visit. We primarily see cats and dogs, but do see exotics as well. Being comfortable handling all pets is a must! Our team works together to assist in any way possible to share the workload, provide exceptional patient care, and help one another get tasks done quickly and efficiently.
Applicants should be skilled with the following but not limited to:
- Customer Service
- Venipuncture
- IV catheter placement
- Administering injections and medications
- Comfortable handling all animals
- Obtaining patient history and updating medical records
- Reviewing medical history and assessing correct recommendations for preventative care
- Creating estimates
- Discussing treatment plans
- Anesthetic induction
- Surgical prep
- Anesthesia monitoring
- Obtaining vitals
- Drug calculations
- Familiar with dental cleanings
- Performing radiographs
- Preparing and reading cytologies, f***l, blood work, etc.
Full time position Monday-Friday
Weekend/ On-call rotation required

There are several great reasons to microchip your pet! It's the only permanent form of identification that can reunite you with your pet. 🐶👩 They're more durable and safer than collars and ID tags & they don't share personal information with anyone who finds your pet. ✅ Ask us about microchipping your pet today!

There are more homeless dogs than people - approximately 3.3 million are surrendered each year and the majority end up getting euthanized. Only 1 out of every 10 dogs born finds a permanent home. Many pets that are surrendered to shelters are still young and not all are mutts. They're typically already spayed or neutered. They're carefully evaluated before being placed up for adoption. They are unique, they love people, and studies show they may even help you live longer! Consider rescuing your next dog.

P.S. please keep an extra careful eye out for pets crossing the road! Some have gotten away from home during the storms and are lost and scared. If it's SAFE and you are able, try to look for a tag that may have the owner's information or bring them in and let us scan for a microchip.

May 5-11 is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week! Many of our patients suffer from anxiety, but it often goes unrealized or is misunderstood. Dogs can become anxious for several reasons including fear and separation. Symptoms may look like aggression, destructive behavior, pacing, excessive barking, panting, depression, and more. Don't fret, there are ways to help your pet! Your Veterinarian can help you identify what kind of anxiety your pet suffers from, possible triggers, and rule out any potential medical conditions. Other options are medications to use as needed and behavior modification. If you think your baby may be suffering from anxiety, call us for an appointment!

Next time you're looking for a pet, consider adopting one from a shelter! You may be looking for a specific breed. Did you know that approximately 25% (of the estimated 8-12 million) that enter shelters are PUREBRED?! Chances are there is an organization somewhere with the baby you're looking for. You can save costs and do a great deed. ❤

‼️ IT'S PARVO SEASON ‼️
Spring means two things: more puppies and more Parvo. As winter fades, the virus comes out of dormancy and as puppies grow, they gradually lose the protection of their mother's antibodies that they're born with. The time between weaning and their first vaccine is when they are most vulnerable to contracting the virus, although they are susceptible their entire lives if left unvaccinated. Pups should not go in public places or be around other dogs until their puppy vaccine series is complete! Parvo is highly contagious and extremely deadly. Vaccination is the best way to prevent it. Treatment can mean long days of hospitalization with no guarantees of recovery. Protect your puppy and get them vaccinated!
