Meet Derek! Before Derek arrived at AWL, he was living in a home with lots of other cats. Due to the conditions inside the home, it was in Derek’s and his previous owner’s best interest for him and his feline friends to be brought into our care. Going through such a big change was scary for Derek, but he slowly started showing more and more of his playful personality. Now, you can typically find Derek playing with his favorite toy or loving all over staff and volunteers. He’s a fan of people of all ages, especially if they are ready to play. #awltrumbull #animalwelfareleague #adoptawl #adoptacat #adoptacatsavealife #humanesociety We are so happy that Derek has adjusted to shelter life and knows he can trust us enough to share his amazing personality! However, we know Derek would be even happier in his forever home. If you’re looking for a young spunky cat, we encourage you to come meet this awesome guy! Our adoption center is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1:00-5:00PM. For more information on our adoption process, visit our website at www.AWLRescueMe.com, or contact our adoption staff at (330)539-5300. We’d love to help you find your new best friend!

Funfetti is having some Friday fun with one of the enrichment boxes sent to us from @catamazingtoy! He loves figuring out how to solve the puzzle to get as many treats as possible.
Just like your cats at home, shelter cats need playtime to help prevent stress and have some fun! Plus it’s a great way for us to bond with our feline friends, and can even be a vital tool to help shy cats build trust and become more confident.
Thank you, Cat Amazing Toy, for thinking of our shelter cats here at AWL. They love them!

Merry Christmas Eve! 🎄 Our AWL dogs got a holiday surprise and got to pick out their own presents. It was a bit chaotic 😂, but they had a blast.
The shelter pups at the AWL got a special treat earlier this week, and we think they enjoyed it! All of these sweet dogs (except Mia- she’s been adopted!) are patiently waiting to find their new home. A new family to love would be the best treat for them! Interested in adding onto your family? Contact our Adoption Staff at (330)539–5300, or visit our website at awlrescueme.com for more information. #awltrumbull #adoptdontshop #shelterpets #adoptabledog #dogenrichment
With snow on the ground, Howie is ready for his pajamas before it even gets dark! He only deserves the best, so we oblige. Our medical staff is working closely with his veterinarian to figure out the underlying cause of his condition, and he is on daily medications and weekly medicated baths. Even though he is not a fan of baths, Howie is in great spirits and loves all the attention he’s getting!
Affectionate Cody is looking for his forever home. Shelter life is very hard for Cody. It's strange and lonely in the kennel so he spends his time curled up in a corner, avoiding eye contact, and doesn't have much of an appetite. It's such a relief for him to get time out of the kennel to snuggle and play with staff! Clearly Cody's true personality is spunky and loveable. His brother Toby found his home this week and now it's Cody's turn. He doesn't want to spend Christmas at the shelter and is looking for a lap to curl up on and have a Christmas movie marathon.
Walk-in adoption hours are 1-5pm Tuesday - Saturday. Contact our adoption staff at 330.539.5300 or [email protected] for more information.
Mia wants everyone to know she’s currently available for adoption at the AWL, she’s a very good girl, and she wants treats! For more information on Mia or any of our adoptable friends, contact our adoption staff at (330)539-5300 Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Let’s help Santa find a home for Burton by Christmas! Burton was a distinguished gentleman at yesterday’s event, except maybe for the occasional sneaked kisses. We’re having a holly jolly time here with Santa and holiday bazaar. Come on out to the shelter. Festivities go on until 4pm!
We thought Santa had stopped by the shelter early, but it turned out to be an imposter. He stayed to warm up for yoga tomorrow and his heart chakra grew three sizes that day.
Shelter Pet Yoga starts at 11am tomorrow with Photos with Santa and Holiday Bazaar to follow at 12pm.🐈🐕🧘
Ages 8+. Bring your own mat. Suggested $10 donation. Shelter animals will be loose during your yoga session.

Six year old pit bull mix Howie has lived through hell. Neglect has left him emaciated, hairless, and riddled with parasites. For Howie and his two pals yesterday’s rescue was lifechanging. For our humane agents and animal care staff it’s just another Wednesday.
AWL’s humane agents responded yesterday to a complaint of multiple dogs in poor physical condition in Warren. Upon arrival they found three shockingly neglected dogs in need of immediate veterinary attention. The animals were removed from the home and were immediately seen by a veterinarian. Howie weighs a ghastly 31 pounds – his ideal weight is around 50 pounds. He is nearly hairless from mange. Crusty and oozing wounds are present all over his skin. Howie also has a heart murmur and a laundry list of other issues caused by neglect. A fecal revealed that all of the dogs removed had full parasite loads of hook and whip worms. Despite his mistreatment at the hands of humans, Howie is a sweet, snuggly gentleman. Howie’s friends are also emaciated and have major medical hurdles of their own.
We are pressing charges against the owner.
Our humane officers and animal care staff showered our new residents with love and affection the moment they arrived. However, love is not enough. Rehabilitating animals like Howie and his pals requires an enormous amount of funding, time, knowledge, and expertise. Without emergency funding, AWL may be forced to discontinue desperately needed work of addressing cruelty and neglect in Trumbull County. While Howie’s day was a unique bright spot in his sad history, our staff rescue and tend to animals just like Howie every single day 365 days a year. We are here to stand up and fight against animal cruelty in Trumbull County. Are you?
We are in URGENT need of your support to continue providing cruelty and neglect investigations in Trumbull County. Now is the time to make a stand with us. For Howie, all those before him and those who will n
