is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer organization whose mission is to provide excellent care for feral and abandoned cats and dogs living outdoors and in foster care. We thrive on giving our rescues (and their adopters) a chance at finding their happily ever after.

Adorable little doll baby, Muñeca, was surrendered to us by her owner. We were initially told that she was 3 years old but after her wellness check at the vet, we found out she is actually closer to 10 and the poor thing needs extensive dental work including several teeth extractions.

Our beautiful little girl, Hello Moto, is recovering from her eye surgery.

This incredible kitty has been with us since the beginning of spring waiting patiently for her forever family. She is a little shy with humans, but super sweet once she gets comfortable. She’s awesome with other cats, dogs, AND children! She’s the whole package!

We usually don’t feature our fosters in our pics but today is a lit bit of an exception because Parslee is literally never far from her foster mom. Parslee is the epitome of the phrase ‘velcro pet’. She does start off a tiny bit shy but once she opens up, she will spend the entire day making sure that wherever you go she is right by your side- and often, right under your foot 🙃🤣🤣

Parslee is great with other cats, and would likely be fine with a well behaved dog. She is friendly and patient, and would be a great companion for anyone. She loves-and actually demands, being picked up and held. She even gives tiny, gentle little love bites when she wants to be pet. And she’ll cuddle right up next to you the second you sit or lay down 🥰This girl is such a treasure, truly. Scoop her up while you can! ❤️

Update! Our girls Cookie and Hello Moto got their surgeries yesterday! Both kitties are doing great and healing comfortably with their experienced fosters keeping a close eye on them.

Our sweetheart, Cookie, is in need of surgery to repair a genetic eye condition. Additionally, we have two wonderful kitties, Naomi and Hello Moto, who are receiving specialized care for separate conditions.
Unlike most rescues, we do not regularly solicit donations or government assistance. Our rescue is entirely voluntary and we work extremely hard to ensure that our animals receive excellent healthcare and food. However, there are times when we need a little extra support-and that’s where you come in.

Today we’re highlighting another shy baby who has been waiting too long for a forever home 🥺

Beautiful gray girl Strawberry prefers to hide in a safe place away from people but lately she’s been opening up and enjoying her time with her new buddy Giarella (also available for adoption) and her foster. Once she gets comfortable she enjoys cuddling and relaxing-she might even forget to hide 🥰.

Strawberry would do best in a quieter home with an outgoing fur sibling who will help her gain confidence. From her human(s) she does need patience and consistency but she is absolutely worth the effort!

Our gorgeous, sweet, silly, little diva queen Rogue is STILL waiting to find her forever home and we really just don’t understand why 😭😭😭

Rogue is an amazing girl who loves fiercely. She is a true velcro cat who is always down to accompany you on any adventure or cuddle up next to you for some downtime. Truly there are not enough superlatives for her. Not to mention that calico cats are considered lucky in many cultures 😉

Rogue does well with other cats, well-behaved dogs, and would be happy with children to tire her out.

Our Rainbowie girl didn’t get much attention so here is take 2 😀🌈

Although she is on the shy side, Rainbowie is super playful and friendly with other kitties. She is warming up to her foster and starting to enjoy the pampered life. She is low-key, low maintenance, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve attention or love. 💕 As she grows, Rainbowie will only gain confidence and learn to trust and enjoy her time with humans. All it takes is a little patience and an open heart

Lisa is a gorgeous girl and doesn’t she know it! 🤣 She is also super active, hilariously strange, and very affectionate. In fact, when she’s not zooming around the house, she’s following her foster mama around to supervise or she is cuddled up next to her on the couch. 🥰 She’s even been known to groom her foster mama’s hair from time to time.

Lisa is sort of fine with other cats- she currently lives with 8 feline roommates, but she would prefer to be an only kitty, or one of two. She has some experience with dogs and would likely learn to tolerate a doggy roommate. She is a very active cat and would do well in a home with a child or children who will play with her.

Our little Renaissance girl, Rainbowie, is on the shy side but she definitely enjoys the finer things in life-like a nice blanket, a high shelf and lots of pets, cuddles and playtime. She is a very quiet, independent kitty who prefers to stick with one human. As such, Rainbowie would do best in a quiet home as an only pet or as a companion for an older kitty. ❤️

Our beautiful, blue eyed girl Lyla is curious and people oriented.

Lyla is a tortie point Siamese, and as such she’s intelligent, self-confident, and unbelievably sweet natured. She loves getting into light mischief and follows her foster human around constantly seeking pets and affection, and adding beauty and warmth everywhere she goes. She’s good with other cats, children and may be fine with polite dogs. She is an active girl who needs structure and lots of playtime to help burn off that incredible energy.

Gorgeous, teeny tiny but fierce and feisty, Pippy 😍😍 This girl is 20 lbs of dynamite in a 5 lb bag! 😂😂 she is an affectionate, energetic kitten who loves to cuddle with her humans and be wherever they are. She is super playful and will do best with a fur sibling who can match her energy. She’s great with other cats and would likely be fine with a well behaved dog and older children. If you need more convincing about this amazing girl, every one of our fosters who has met her has said they would keep her if they could 🥹❤️❤️❤️

We are so excited to invite everyone to join our puppy AND kitten yoga sessions on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM and Noon at the Bryant Street Market Washington, DC! Here at ACADFR we like to learn and share what we know. Today we would like to talk about knees- particularly kneecaps 🦵🏻🦿and what better model than gorgeous, thriving Sparkles?! ✨ Sparkles has a condition known as bilateral medial patellar luxations. It’s not uncommon in cats and dogs. In English it essentially means that her kneecaps slip out of the groove that usually holds them in place. It can affect any breed but Abyssinian cats and Devon Rex’s are known to have a genetic predisposition. There are 4 grades of severity. Corrective surgery can be done depending on a number of factors including the level of severity. For more information about this condition, check out the link in our stories 👍🏻 Sparkles ✨ has grade 4 patellar luxations, which is the most severe. We have had her evaluated by our veterinarian and have found that Sparkles was born with the condition and she is not a good candidate for surgery. What this means is that Sparkles has a permanent, adorable bow-legged walk/bunny hop and her kneecaps are permanently out of place. She does have some limited range of motion but she is not in any pain and, as you can see in the video, she is happy and otherwise very healthy. We love our Sparkle girl and we know her forever family is out there. Unfortunately, pets like her who aren’t considered ‘normal’ are often overlooked by adopters.
