is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer organization whose mission is to provide excellent care for feral and abandoned cats and dogs living outdoors and in foster care. We thrive on giving our rescues (and their adopters) a chance at finding their happily ever after.

Winston is a sweet little guy with lots of love and personality!

This young pup is doing great work with his awesome foster learning about life as an indoor pup. He is still potty training and will need an adopter who will continue working with him to get into the routine. He would do best in a home with another dog so he can learn by example. As he is also still young and active it is crucial that he gets lots of playtime as well

is upon us, and this year we are asking for any little bit you can spare to help us help our fur babies.

As a small local rescue, our group of incredible volunteers work diligently to provide a safe place for our furry friends to land and to ensure that they receive the best food and veterinary care possible. We do not receive taxpayer funds, large grants, or subsidies that larger rescues and shelters do, and this makes us even more reliant on your generous donations.

Every bit of money we receive goes directly towards food and supplies for our fosters, as well as vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, and other vital services like emergency dental care for our senior pups Muñeca and Herb or corrective eye surgeries for Hello Moto and Cookie or leg amputations for kitties like Peggy, just to name a few.

This past year alone we have assisted with rescuing and transporting animals from kitten and puppy mills and hoarding situations, provided lifesaving FIP treatment for several kittens, and helped transport and find homes for cats in need from Kuwait and Hawaii through local rescue partners. We also run an informal pet food pantry and help local all volunteer rescues with food and litter donations that we receive through our partners. We have provided intensive neonatal care for kittens and palliative care for senior pets who might have otherwise passed away alone in a shelter or on the street. We also help support local stray and feral animals by providing food and arranging TNR services around Northern Virginia. The more donations we receive, the more animals we are able to help this holiday season and beyond.

🙏 DONATION REQUEST 🙏

We have two versy sweet, very special fur babies who could use a little help with their badly needed dental care. Our little doll, Muñeca, is a spry 6 year old who was surrendered by her previous owners. She is awaiting her dental surgery, but did get a spa day and a fresh hair cut.

We also have the adorable 10 year old Herb, who underwent his extraction surgery on Wednesday. *warning, the pictures are graphic*
The poor guy was in severe pain and struggling to eat, while still being the sweetest little cuddle bug ever. He is recovering well with his foster family- who he clearly loves, and he will be available to foster or adopt soon.

We typically do not ask for donations unless really necessary and these two cuties, are definitely worth it. We appreciate any amount you can spare ❤️❤️

DONATION REQUEST! 🙏

Adorable little doll baby, Muñeca, was surrendered to us by her owner. We were initially told that she was 3 years old but after her wellness check at the vet, we found out she is actually closer to 10 and the poor thing needs extensive dental work including several teeth extractions.

We are so excited to invite everyone to join our puppy AND kitten yoga sessions on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM and Noon at the Bryant Street Market Washington, DC! Come meet 10-12 of our feline friends and enjoy a good stretch and then hang out with our puppies post-session ❤️ 🚨 Each session is BYOM- bring your own mat and water 🚨This is NOT an adoption event, however you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a number of our puppies and kitties who are available for adoption. Our volunteers are happy to answer questions about the pets and our adoption process. Here at ACADFR we like to learn and share what we know. Today we would like to talk about knees- particularly kneecaps 🦵🏻🦿and what better model than gorgeous, thriving Sparkles?! ✨ Sparkles has a condition known as bilateral medial patellar luxations. It’s not uncommon in cats and dogs. In English it essentially means that her kneecaps slip out of the groove that usually holds them in place. It can affect any breed but Abyssinian cats and Devon Rex’s are known to have a genetic predisposition. There are 4 grades of severity. Corrective surgery can be done depending on a number of factors including the level of severity. For more information about this condition, check out the link in our stories 👍🏻 Sparkles ✨ has grade 4 patellar luxations, which is the most severe. We have had her evaluated by our veterinarian and have found that Sparkles was born with the condition and she is not a good candidate for surgery. What this means is that Sparkles has a permanent, adorable bow-legged walk/bunny hop and her kneecaps are permanently out of place. She does have some limited range of motion but she is not in any pain and, as you can see in the video, she is happy and otherwise very healthy. We love our Sparkle girl and we know her forever family is out there. Unfortunately, pets like her who aren’t considered ‘normal’ are often overlooked by adopters.
