Did you know we have the most amazing Internal Medicine Specialist with us every week at Vinton Vet? Dr. David Grant is Board Certified in veterinary internal medicine. He has a unique set of skills including complicated case diagnosis and management and so much more! He loves endoscopy and is seen here helping our general practice veterinarians diagnose a foreign object(s) in a patient. We are so grateful to be able to provide Specialty Medicine to Roanoke and the surrounding areas. We’ve even had patients come from West Virginia to see Dr. Grant!

What puts the “Special” in Specialty Services? While we think everyone who works at Vinton Veterinary Hospital is special, the “Specialty Services” in the name of our new building is to represent the Board Certified Veterinary Specialists offering their unique set of skills that they acquired during intense extra training post-veterinary school.
Dr. Sarah Barrett, DVM, seen here, is a Specialist in Clinical Pathology. She is able to read cytology slides and give swift and accurate diagnoses to our general practice veterinarians (as well as our Internal Medicine Specialists who work at Vinton Vet!). We are so grateful to have this amazing service for our patients. She also reads slides for wonderful colleagues at other veterinary hospitals in the surrounding areas! What a win for our entire community!!!!

Did you know that less than 10% of the pets that are unchipped will return home each year?

A microchip is a secure, reliable, permanent identification for your pet and the process is simple and affordable. Microchipping your pet can help ensure that if your pet goes missing, they can be identified and find their way back to you.

If your pet is chipped, make sure their information is up to date. To help keep pets close to their loved ones, share this post and remind your friends to !

Please help us give a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our own Tomicka Hunter who graduated from the Licensed Veterinary Technician program at Blue Ridge Community College last week! Tomicka has been a phenomenal member of the Vinton Vet Team for over a DECADE and we are thrilled to announce that she has achieved her professional goal of becoming an LVT! We have had the honor of watching her excel in this program and we have loved seeing her grow as an individual and as an incredible member of our beloved profession. Tomicka, you are a SHINING STAR and we know you will continue to climb and conquer mountains! That smile says it all! We also love that Tomicka’s daughter, who watched every minute of her mother study and prepare for this moment, got to be the one to place the LVT pin on her mother! CONGRATS Tomicka! We are so incredibly proud of you!!!

Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It could be their a**l glands.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.

Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment.
