We have about 8-10" of snow coming, please keep your kitties indoors, but for those community cats, help them stay safe and warm...
❄ Provide cat cabins: Use styrofoam or wood with straw bedding. Do not use blankets or hay, as they retain moisture.
❄ Elevate shelters: Keep shelters off the ground to prevent moisture and cold from seeping in
❄ Entrance Protection: Face the entrance away from winds and add an overhang to shield from the snow and rain.
❄Increase food portions: Cats need more calories in the winter to maintain body heat.
❄ When possible, use heated water bowls or insulated containers to prevent water from freezing. Replace frozen water frequently.

Today is "Inspire Your Heart with Art" Day. Art is meant to make us feel happy and is a great form of self expression. Years ago, a coworker from a previous vet clinic that I used to work at painted these pictures of my cats, Mystik and Pounce, when they passed away. I painted my dogs, Grizzley and Griffon, at a paint bar for their "paint your pet" night. We would love to see your works of art, whether it's a painting, crotchet, glass art, pottery, or even dance! Show us your talent!

Today is Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day! These dapper babies are playful, outgoing, and affectionate. They love attention, so they form strong bonds with their owners and are very social creatures. Some owners have even said they have dog-like loyalty and will follow their humans around. However, personalities depend on their genetics and upbringing, so not all tuxedos are the same.
Share us your pictures and fun stories of your tuxedos!!!

Today is Change a Pet's Life Day. A day meant to bring awareness to those animals in need. Some ways that you can help a deserving furbaby are:
🐾Adopting from a local shelter or rescue
🐾Fostering-temporarily care for a pet until they find their fur-ever home. Some shelters even let you take a pet out for the day to give them a break from the kennels.
🐾Volunteering-if you are interested in cuddling cats, walking dogs, or feeding/cleaning around the shelter, every single minute means a lot to these pets.
🐾Donating-whether it's monetary donations, food, blankets, supplies, these animals are so grateful for what we give them. Check with the shelters or rescues to see if they have Amazon Wishlists!

Do you ever wonder why cats knock things over? It's mostly because they are just curious, playful creatures. Just like in the wild, cats push or bat at potential prey to see how they react. They're natural predators, so they may see your glass of water as "prey" to hunt and try to knock them down.
Cats also love attention, and if their owners talk to them or pick them up after batting something, it only reinforces their behavior. So before they jump on that table to bat at that coffee cup of prey, redirect their attention, by giving them stimulating toys.
Boredom usually plays a part on why they knock things over also. If there's little stimulation, they'll find ways to entertain themselves. Enrich their space with vertical climbers and high spaces for them to relax, stimulating toys like puzzle toys that lets them "hunt".

Dental health is an important part of your cat's health, and dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems. Your cats' teeth and gums should be checked yearly to catch any early signs of dental disease. Join us in February for National Pet Dental Health Month by scheduling an exam and discussing dental options! 757-447-9750.

If there are any feral cats in your community, create an outdoor shelter and fill it with STRAW, not hay or blankets! Hay and blankets/towels soaks up moisture, making it cold and uncomfortable. Straw repels moisture, making it warm and cozy during the chilly weather.
