They say dogs are man's best friend, but cats can be man's best friend too...it's just science 😄. Sushi's best friends were my dog, Griffon, and my guinea pig, Pirate. They were inseparable, they followed each other around, ate together, and cuddled together. Show us your kitties' best friends!

Your pets are an important member of the family so be sure to prepare for the unexpected, and keep them as part of your emergency plan.
*Build a separate emergency kit for your pets with all of their essentials
*Ensure your pet has identification. Microchipping is the safest bet since collars can come off.
*Keep digital records and pictures to identify your pet in case you become separated.
*Determine where you can go with your pet in advance if you need to leave your home.

Summer is finally here! Here's some tips for a purrfect vacation with your cats!
1. Ensure their microchip and ID tags are up to date
2. Get your cat accustomed to their carrier by placing treats and toys inside.
3. Choose cat-friendly hotels, vacations rentals, and Air B&B's
4. Pack essentials: food, water, litter, medications, and toys.
5. Plan regular breaks every few hours to let your cat stretch and use the litterbox.
6. Keep them cool by providing shade, water, and cooling pads to prevent heatstroke.
7. Check with airlines for pet travel requirements, invest in an approved airline carrier, and consider a direct flight.
8. Keep their vaccination records handy.
9. Consider calming aids if your kitty gets stressed during travel. We offer medications and supplements to help take the edge off. Contact us to schedule an appointment to discuss these options, 757-447-9750/[email protected].

Remember to always prioritize your cat's safety and comfort during travel. Happy Adventures!!

May is National Microchip Your Pet Month, and even though May is coming to a close, we provide that service and you can microchip your pet anytime!
*Unlike collars and tags which can fall off or be removed, a microchip is implanted under the skin and will stay with them for life.
*A microchip greatly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they ever get lost.
Let's keep our furry friends safe and secure! Call us to schedule an appointment! 757-447-9750

You may not think that certain illnesses have a “season”. But one that is known to
spike at the holidays is Acute Pancreatitis (a sudden-onset condition caused by the
inflammation of the pancreases which can cause serious health issues if left untreated).
Often the reason for this spike is due to many people thinking a nice way to celebrate is
to share their holiday meal with their dog. Remember, people food is most often too
fatty for a dog’s digestive system. Treat your pup with a special home-made dog treat
instead! Find recipes here:

Holiday Tip: No water additives for your Christmas trees. Asprin, sugar, corn syrup or
bleach are common “tips” to keep trees vital longer, but if you have pets in the house
these substances can cause harm if the water is drank.

In honor of Vet Tech appreciation week, we wanted to give a big shout-out to Jenn, our one and only licensed vet tech! She has been in the field for 24 years, Jenn began working for LVCC back in July of 2023, and even though she hasn't been with us long, she has been very impactful working with us. Taking the time to talk to clients with questions they may have and being able to answer them with the amount of knowledge she possesses makes her an invaluable team member. When not helping out clients, you can find her hard at work working in surgery or helping with tech appointments. So, thank you Jenn for everything you do for LVCC!!

Happy Monday everyone! It's the third week in October which means it's officially National Veterinary Technician Week! Here at LVCC, we would like to give a big thank you to not only our own vet techs, but also to those working in every corner of the veterinary field. The dedication and compassion that is behind the hard work you do every day for our 4-legged family members is not only admirable, but also inspiring as well!

Happy October 16th everyone! Today we would like to recognize Global Cat Day! Now you might be asking "LVCC, what is global cat day?" and I'm here to tell you a little information about it. Global Cat Day was launched in 2017 by Alley Cat Allies and advocates worldwide join to lead the charge to protect cats and kittens. Alley Cat Allies and their movement of dynamic, dedicated advocates have made hard-fought progress in changing hearts and minds about cats, bringing humane, effective programs for cats into the mainstream, and establishing laws and policies that protect cats rather than kill them.

10/11/2023

Happy October 11th everyone! Today is the second Wednesday of the month (wow how time has flown by already) and today we would like to observe national pet obesity awareness day! In 2018, the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention estimated that nearly 60% of cats in the United States are overweight with 33.8% of cats being obese. One method to tell if your cat is overweight is to feel along their rib cage. For a healthy cat, the padding shouldn't feel any thicker than the padding over the back of your hand, and if you have to press firmly in order to feel their ribs, then they may be overweight. Overweight cats might refrain from engaging in normal cat activities like play and personal hygiene which can possibly lead to skin problems, possible urinary tract infections. They are also more prone to diseases, such as diabetes, arthritis, and joint pain. If you are worried that your pet may be overweight or obese, the first step is to schedule an appointment with your regular vet. That way both you and your vet can be on the same page to see what the best course of action is to help out your pet!

Happy October 9th! In case you didn't know, today is CATober 9th®, the day in which is the universal birthday celebration for shelter and rescue cats whose birthdays are unknown, giving shelter cats across the country an opportunity to celebrate their birthdays! CATober 9th® was launched by North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. So happy birthday to all those cats out there with their birthdays unknown, today was made with y'all in mind!

10/04/2023

Happy October! As we all know, Halloween is fast approaching and we would like to take this time to celebrate International Black Cat Awareness Month, National Animal Safety and Protection Month, and National Pet Wellness Month.

Black cats have the lowest adoption rate in comparison to any other color of cat and often during the month of October, some shelters don't allow black cats to be adopted out during the spooky season. This is because of superstitions that surround this specific-colored cat. Too often the cats were being adopted as part of the Halloween holiday mystique and would later be abandoned (or worse) after the holiday passed. By helping raise awareness and by dispelling myths associated with black cats, we hope that one day we may end the stigma that surrounds these sweet cats.

With this month also being National Animal Safety and Protection Month, this period also reminds us to be mindful of the wellness of our pets and even wild animals. A good way to observe this time is by microchipping your pet. One in three pets will become lost in their lifetime and while microchips are not a GPS tracking device, they provide a way for you to be contacted by almost any veterinarian or shelter if your pet is brought in if they become lost and found by someone.

National Pet Wellness Month is another holiday that helps bring awareness to our pets. By the mid-1900s, pets began to be seen as family members and companions rather than working animals and because of this shift in change, annual veterinary checkups for pets are now routine in many households across the United States. This is an excellent time to provide our pets with the extra attention they require and also with as many have been adopted into our families, it is only natural that we treat them with as much love and care as possible.
