Those of you who have purchased Pet Insurance. After 2 years, we did a detailed analysis of premium costs, vet visits and reimbursements. It was determined based on total costs and savings that we in fact got $0 return on our premium when looking at how much we were reimbursed.

Here is the break down:
Total Insurance Premium Bill: for Period of 24 months for 5 dogs:
Total premiums paid: $4951.33*
Total Vet Bill Same Period: $3,264.09
Total Vet + Premium = $8215.42
Saved/ Reimbursed: 1,429.68
*note: Each dogs pet insurance is an average of $725/yr or $1450 in this case.

Average Vet Checkup is $150/year per dog. We get $100 to $125 back on that visit. Our Vet isnt a high priced vet either. Still $25 out of pocket plus insurance premium of $725. You are now out of pocket $750 per dog each year. Now granted there is no catastrophic incident but if you self funded then the money will be there earning interest.

Summary: We actually didnt see any return of our premiums paid into the insurance company. We are still out all the premiums plus about $25.

Solution:
Find a High Yield Savings account and earn interest on those same funded dollars you are using for the insurance premiums. If you can also connect a credit card to that High Yield Savings (HYS) account you can pay direct and perhaps earn some points. What we have done is Open an AMEX HYS account which is getting 4.3%, connect it to the AMEX Gold card so we can easily back fill what we pay the vet and just fund those same insurance premiums into the Savings account. Just a quick plug for Cosmos Corner. The new facility off of Lynnhaven Pkwy is having the last day of open house. Go and see the place it is so beautiful and well laid out. The official first day is tomorrow for daycare.

This closes out the 2nd Litter of Bristol x Mako. All our babies have new wonderful homes. We hope to get updates from time to time on how they are doing and maybe a play date with their sister Sabine aka Millsinn Sabine Wren of Mandalore now and again.

With this close out we will also be retiring both Mako and Bristol from breeding and allow them to grow old with the family. We will enjoy seeing their legacy in Sabine who will carry on the lineage. Annika and I have enjoyed raising the babies as they do bring you joy but it also takes alot of labor of love and time. Thankfully these little personalities help make it easier.

We want to thank everyone for their kind words and acceptance as quality breeders and the care we were able to provide for your babies.

Finally our last pup....Wrecker nka Loki which is a very fitting name. This little man was every bit of his twin Echo and older brother Roku. Very talkative, strutting his pride and silly nature. It's always tough to see the last one go but happy he and all his siblings have good homes.

Echo nka Archibald said goodbye to us enroute to his new home with the Isemans who have waited over a year for him. He is such a loving and sweet big boy. We will miss his talkative nature and his woohs.

Today we will see the remainder of our babies going to their forever homes. Just a bit ago our Tech nka Chevy joined his new family. This little guy we will miss as we often called him the good child as he was always the well behaved one. I know they are puppies and they just love getting into everything but Tech was always a bit more reserved. We will miss him.

For our owners this is the brand we use. We constantly change the protein type when they are using adult food but in terms of overall quality it's a very good product. Much of what you hear these days from Vets is a paid advertisement and honestly not the best food. I always say do your own research as we do to ensure your dogs get a top quality meal they will actually absorb that provides top nutrition for a long life. We also add occasional pumpkin puree and other health powders for overall wellness including joint health.
