November was adopt a senior dog month. For those who adopted great job! You have a big heart and I’d like to say for the senior dogs thank you for giving them a chance at a happy life again I am pretty sure they are so grateful.

Now that you’ve had them for a couple weeks to a month you may have now noticed common senior problems. Slow to rising or difficulty rising after sleeping or a nap. Disinterested in walking for long distances, trouble going up and down the stairs this could be walking up the stairs stiff, slowly walking the stairs, showing pain or grunting while walking the stairs or right after, or tripping when going down the stairs, even avoiding the stairs. Stiff gait at a walk or jog, disliking to jog. Stiff shoulders not able to get good stretches or fully extend the shoulders, stiff elbows not able to flex the forearms as much, hearing joint pops when pet is stretching, walking, or getting up from sleeping, dripping urine in the house(urinary inconsistence), etc.

A lot of times when owners start to see these issues they do not know what to do. Common questions are: Do they need pain medication? Are you walking them too much? Why are they dripping urine in the house are there medications for that what should you do?

There are medications to help alleviate the symptoms of all of these things. There’s also chiropractic care. If your pet has severe pain it’s possible to use both to get them to a good plain to start them going and chiropractic care can correct the abnormalities that cause the symptoms so we can keep them going with maintenance!

If you have a senior pet with some of the issues listed and you want to try a holistic approach to help them contact [email protected] for an appointment or schedule one your self using our online calendar posted on our website at jumpwithjoychiropractic.com. We got you covered let’s make a plan to keep your senior pet and you happy and feeling great!

Questioning whether chiropractic care is right for your pet? Uncertain of what chiropractic care is for but interested in treatment for your pet?

Well look below for a quick reason why you should place your pet on a chiropractic care routine.

The nervous system is the system in the body used to coordinate the body’s ability to heal and regulate itself. This includes communicating with all systems in the body to get the job done! The nervous system which includes the brain also has nerves that exit through the vertebral column.

The exiting nerve communication can be compromised when pets have traumatic injury, overuse of joints, or even underuse. These things can cause fixation of the vertebra. In response the surrounding muscles and ligaments may become compromised and inflamed. Nerves could become compressed in these damaged/inflamed tissues, or in the passages they use to exit the spine.

Nerve signals become unable to adequately reach their destinations. When they don’t, these compromised structures lose their ability to heal directly and dramatically impact your animal’s health.

Symptoms of spinal fixation are vast, and may include pain, spasm, sensitivity to touch, lameness, gait abnormalities and postural compromise. These are the symptoms that are the easiest to detect. You can also begin to see changes to organs as nerves continue to remain compromised. The immune system is not excluded!

To sum it up, my goal as an animal chiropractor is to restore function and mobility to the portion of the vertebra experiencing fixation in an effort to re-establish neurologic transmissions. By doing this the body is able to perform at its optimum potential.

Long post but worth the read!

I am going to post the story about each dog from my before and after video just to give some context of what the chiropractic adjusts did for each dog that you can’t see in the video. I will post one a week!

First is Ms. Riley ☺️,

Riley started off as being apart of my case study but transitioned to being one of my greatest outcomes so far. I will focus on her initial visit. Which is funny because her mom was completely skeptical about chiropractic adjustments in general and didn’t really want to do it!

Riley is an 8.5 year old husky mix. At the age of 3.5 Riley was severely overweight and was not being exercised. Riley’s current owner came into her like 3 years ago and has been changing her life for the better ever since. When I asked for Riley to be apart of my case study for school at that time she routinely walked at home for exercise for 30mins a day. When her owner would attempt to walk longer Riley would instead sit and would not want to walk further. Riley also loved getting on the couch and sometimes would need assistance. When owner would pull at her hip to assist her, Riley would yelp. Riley would also sometimes trip when walking down stairs. Riley was older and her owner figured it was due to her age.

I completed a gait analysis which showed crabbing at the walk as well as some interference of the hindlimbs at the walk and jog.

A full body adjustment was completed on Riley in which she did yelp at palpation of her hip. Her hip and the rest of her body was adjusted. Her hip was then reassessed with no pain shown after adjustment. She also had some back spasms that were immediately alleviated after adjusting. Riley, like her owner was also skeptical of adjusting and did not think anything else would be different.

I requested Riley’s owner to report in one week of her progress and ensured her to trust me and the process!

Riley’s owner reported a week later that Riley walked for 1 hr outside , which she hadn't done in a year and was ok with relaxing in the sun outside after! She also was jumping on her owners as she greeted them at the door with more energy, getting on the couch on her own and was no longer yelping when hip was touched. We love to see it Riley!

S.N. Riley was diagnosed with urinary incontinence of unknown occurrence as a young dog. I informed her owner that adjustments can help with that. She was not sure of that and did not want Riley to start peeing on the floor if off of her medication for urinary incontinence.

Stay tuned for more to Riley’s story! ☺️
