🐾 Kenobi visited Dr. Church at our Virginia Beach office due to reduced vision at night, a potential sign of Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), a condition that can lead to blindness. Given his breed, his owners chose to proceed with genetic testing, which is a simple cheek swab to determine if he carries the gene for this disease.

🧬 Kenobi’s results came back negative! We’ll continue to monitor his vision to ensure he stays healthy and happy.

🐾 Ollie is a 5 month old Golden Retriever puppy seen by Dr. Nadelstein in our Virginia Beach office. Ollie has congenital (inherited) anomalies that are causing a decrease in vision. We will continue to monitor him as he grows to keep up with any future changes.

🐾 Blue was very nervous for his visit! He saw Dr. Church for removal of an eyelid mass and treatment for an ulcer. 💪🏼 He earned his bravery award for being such a sweet, good patient even though he had the jitters!

🐾 Randall enjoyed a little sunshine after his surgery with Dr. Leber in our Chesapeake office. ☀️ Randall is a 3 month old French Bulldog, who came to us with a dermoid on his left eye (see pic in post!). A dermoid is a patch of normal tissue with hair that grows in an abnormal place. Once surgically removed, there is typically only a mild permanent gray scar in its place.

🐾 Piper proudly showed off her babies during their OFA screening exams in our Virginia Beach office with Dr. Church. 🗒️ The OFA Companion Animal Eye Registry (CAER) is a vital tool for breeders, helping them make informed decisions to ensure healthier dogs. By collecting data on canine eye diseases, we contribute to understanding trends and breed susceptibility.

🐾 Scooby Doo was all smiles before cataract surgery with Dr. Gift in our Chesapeake office. Surgery went great and he’ll be back to solving mysteries in no time!

🐾 Otis is a 2 year old Maine C**n seen by Dr. Church in our Virginia Beach office. Otis recently had laser treatment for iris melanoma in his left eye and is recovery well!

🐾 Zack is a 7 year old German Shepherd seeing Dr. Berdoulay in our Yorktown office for KCS (dry eye disease). Zack now has cyclosporine implants that were surgically inserted to improve tear production. This is a great option for pets that are difficult to medicate or have not responded to topical treatment.

Visiting Animal Eye Care VA and the amazing Dr Church and her staff with our newest pelican intake "Deltaville".

This lovely lady was found sitting on a small beach in Deltaville, Virginia, yesterday by a concerned citizen. Within 90 minutes of the call, she was captured and otw to TREE, with 3 amazing people helping to get her down to Virginia Beach.

We want to thank everyone who helped this bird get down to us:
*Deveryn Bailey - for calling Wildlife 911 Northern Neck to get help for the pelican!

*Kimberly S. Manthy - for going out and rescuing the pelican!

*Grace Hanners - for transporting the bird from Deltaville to Glouscester

*Kristy Spurgeon - for taking the pelican from Glouscester to Virginia Beach (with a couple of emergency stops in between)

As the saying goes, "it takes a village," but in this case, it took almost an entire state.

🐾 Luna is a Cocker Spaniel puppy, seeing Dr. Church for cherry eye (formally called nictitans gland prolapse) with surgery scheduled in our Virginia Beach office next week. Luna was an angel for her visit and are delighted to be a part of her care team!

🐾 Zoe is a 9 year old West Highland Terrier seen by Dr. Leber in our Chesapeake office. Zoe came to us with a form of dry eye and an ulcer in her right eye that has healed over the last several weeks. Good girl, Zoe!

🐾 Ellie is a 10 year old Chihuahua mix, seen by Dr. Berdoulay in our Yorktown office. Ellie came to us with an ulcer due to dry eye and after several weeks on topical treatment, she’s doing great. Good girl, Ellie! 💕

🐾 Beau is a 1 year old Cockapoo seen by Dr Berdoulay in our Yorktown office for inflammation in his right eye caused by a juvenile cataract. He is on topical medication and we will monitor him over time. Good boy, Beau! We had a good time with you during your visit 💙

🦸‍♂️ Batman is a 4 year old Pug seeing Dr. Church in our Virginia Beach office for an ulcer due to underlying dry eye disease. This superhero is doing great after a couple of weeks on topical treatment!

🐾 Ian was happy to show off his tricks during his visit with Dr. Leber in our Chesapeake office! Ian is a 9 year old Westin sent to us from his primary veterinarian for an emergency visit to treat acute glaucoma and inflammation in his right eye. He’ll be back after a few days on treatment to check his progress.

🐾 Arthur saw Dr. Church for a corneal sequestrum in the right eye, which occurs more frequently in exotic cat breeds. We start with topical treatment and consider surgical options if there is no response. We are crossing our paws for Arthur!

💪🏼 Penny was very brave for her visit with Dr. Church! Penny traveled from New York to Virginia Beach to have several eyelid masses surgically removed. She was very nervous for her visit and definitely earned her Certificate of Bravery. Paws up for Penny!
