Good morning, friends! I am raising funds for my newly established Draft Horse Rescue, Southern Creek Draft Horse Rescue. This is my own non-profit organization established in September 2023 at our farm here in Virginia Beach. We are putting in the work!

We are making great strides here at Southern Creek Draft Horse Rescue.

One goal is for George and Ernie, our resident rescues, to be as socialized as possible. George had a huge day a couple of days ago accepting a rider! He needed lots of hugs of reassurance but was able to go for a nice long walk with a ba****ck rider. He did amazing.

We are also doing some work around the farm! The bathing area cross ties weren’t as sturdy as we’d like, so one side was replaced. Brush is being cleared out, some more space on the land is being reclaimed, possible fencing repairs. A quarantine area will be needed.

There’s a lot we are doing and we are so excited! Much of it is hard labor, lots of hours into our current rescue horses, preparing the area for future rescue horses, and making sure we are ready!

I want so bad to rush into the next steps of this rescue and start saving more horses lives right now!!! There are horses that are no longer useful in the United States as work horses that get sold for cheap - sold, tagged, and shipped off for slaughter. Their slaughter isn’t humane either. They are sent to either Canada or Mexico where they are either shot or met with a metal blade. Then sold for meat in other countries. This is a very hard fact to face. As I research this, it hurts my heart. I have come across many videos and pictures I could share that would tug on your heart strings. Once they are sent to the holding for slaughter they are hungry, they are packed in, they are fighting for space and food, they are fragile, they are so scared. It’s heartbreaking. We want to save as many as possible when we are ready. We will have to start slow.

These two horses are horses that could have met a brutal death, their meat used for consumption in other countries. Or just brutally killed. They at the very least deserve to be rescued and humanely euthanized by a vet if they are sick beyond rehabilitation.
These two are here, happy, building bonds, and are the permanent home horses at a rescue that we hope will go on to save many horses in the future. Future horses will be loved just as much, and forever homes found.

I know that my first step is to do what I’m doing. There is a process to everything and patience is key.

Look into that beautiful trusting eye of his.

I can’t believe George has dents in his stall from where he’d be wildin out at the beginning of his journey to feeling at home! We had the most amazing grooming session.

Earnie stood there watching us the entire 20 minutes we were in there grooming. They are best buddies.

I haven’t gained the trust of Ernie yet to get close enough for a full grooming.

Welcome to all who are new to our page!! We are so thankful for you to get to know us! We hope to save many horses in the future, but as we start small, we will share our journey with Ernie, Lulu, and George.

I wanted to introduce my voice on here since I will be a helper to the founders Amber and Tom. I will be helping on the content creating side, training the horses, brainstorming, coming up with marketing ideas and how we can get our Organization out there. My name is Shauna and I am passionate about animals, humans, God, photography, business/nonprofits in general, and living the life we were given in the best way possible.

I hope some of my followers from other aspects of my life join us over here and see where this goes as well.

Amber and Tom want to continue to save horses as we rehabilitate them and adopt them out to forever homes.

Ernie, Georgie and Lulu will be forever ambassadors to model good behavior since they are their very first saved.

We hope to bring the community together with hosting fundraisers, movie nights, cookouts, campouts, etc!
