We are so thrilled to share that after almost exactly 4 years in our rescue, Vladimir has found his forever home! He came to us from a shelter in VA in August 2021, after his previous family lost their home.

Meet Kitsune (kee-tsoo-neh)! She is a 4 year old Japanese Akitainu who came to us from Baltimore County, MD.
A HUGE thank you to Stefanie Rose and Mika Naylor for dropping everything last minute to help get this sweet girl to us!

This is an older clip, but still has some useful information. The Japanese Akitainu was admitted to the American Kennel Club's (AKC) Foundation Stock Service Program in August 2020. The AKC also moved the breed to the Miscellaneous Class in 2023.
The Akitas shown in this video are American Akitas.

Yay!!!!!! After almost exactly 2 years in rescue, sweet Magnolia has found her forever home! This wonderful family had previously adopted from us several years ago, and recently lost their boy (and RIAR alum) Tundra. They were ready to open their hearts and home to a new Akita, and offer them a happily ever after.

Magnolia first came to our attention when she was listed on Craigslist as "FREE - Urgent Sick Puppy In Need Of Fenced Yard". Basically she had been purchased by a back yard pitbull breeder, with the intent to breed her and create pit/Akita crosses, in Washington DC. She had been kept in a crate constantly, leading to pressure sores and urinary problems. We scrambled to find transport, but when we found some and went to contact the poster, the post was gone.

A few days later, a new post appeared. Some kind person had rescued the puppy from the previous owner, but was not equipped to keep her. We reached out to them and quickly arranged transport for the puppy. The poor puppy hadn't even come with a name (though we later discovered it had been River, but felt she needed a new one), let alone any medical records. The rabies tag she was wearing belonged to a miniature Poodle from a vet practice in Maryland that had never even seen the Akita puppy.

We are excited to say that after 3 years in rescue, Itashi has found his forever home with RIAR alum Cinnamon Toast Crunch (just Cinnamon now 😉) and her family!

Itashi initially came to us as a young puppy in 2022 from the shelter in Virginia Beach. He found himself there after his family relocated and couldn't take him. He was briefly adopted and returned in 2022, and had been waiting for the right fit ever since.

Happy new life, Itashi! ❤️

Pupdate on Peanut Butter (now Koda)

Loves our daily walks and making friends with the ducks, couldn’t be bothered by the robot vacuum but the mop is another story and the chaos is constant but he fits right in 💙"
