Lil Roar Cat Rescue (LRCR) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit cat rescue organization located in the Virginia Beach, Virginia area. LRCR’s primary missions are to 1) spay and neuter community (feral) cats 2) find “forever” homes through our foster care program for adoptable stray cats and kittens found 3) educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering all cats to address the cat overpopulat

ion problem in our area. When young kittens are caught during our trapping projects, our fosters socialize them so they can be put up for adoption once they are vetted and at a minimum 8-10 weeks of age. These tame cats enter our adoption program, are vetted, and once deemed healthy, begin the search for their forever homes. A Rescue Story….
A few wks. ago we noticed 2 cats walking through our and our neighbors’ yards. We’ve lived here for several yrs. and have never seen a stray cat. Asked around and no one knew who they belonged to. We know nothing about cats (have 3 dogs), but love all animals (volunteer with horse & bird rescue) so, we put out a couple of water bowls & picked up some cat food. A few days later we noticed both around our front porch but now with 3 kittens! Immediately started calling/emailing cat rescue groups. Everyone was over max capacity for intakes. This is where we started to learn how serious the stray/feral cat issue is in Hampton Roads.
Last Monday morning we opened our front door to 2 cats, 3 kittens, and 5 NEW kittens! 10 total. Within 1-2wks time! Older kittens decided 2 of our vehicles were their home, so they stayed parked. Thankfully, we worked from home last wk. New kittens were so tiny it was more waddling than walking.
Frantically, called another rescue (full also) who recommended joining Hampton Roads Community Cat Caretakers to find some info. Posted a long, rambling post and received a lot of excellent advice.
I don’t know if she could read the panic in my post, but Lisa with Lil Roar Cat Rescue sent me THE best message. They would take ALL and would work to find them the best home!
She sent me instructions & videos on how to use our dog crate to “trap” them. 1st trap got 1st mom. Devastating for both of us (still feel terrible) but she’s safe and unhurt.
Next trap got 3 kittens & 2nd mom. Went to collect tiny kittens and 1 is missing! Looked EVERYWHERE and could not find him. Assume she started to move them after seeing other mom trapped. If I could have separated that mom & released her, I probably would have. Dreaded thinking she stashed one somewhere where we couldn’t find it.
Brought crate full of angry cat/kittens to Lisa, along with one of our dogs’ harnesses & an AirTag. Hoping she could separate and somehow get this AirTag attached & fully planned to bring the mom back to find missing kitten. Thankfully, she talked me out of my panic, loaned me a couple of thermal readers, a snake like camera thing to check storm drains (nightmare scenario) & assurance she’d come help if we couldn’t find kitten, lastly my idea for AirTag release.
By 10pm we found nothing. Lisa came shortly after & did not stop looking. She went INTO the storm drains! Through shrubs, under houses, sheds. She probably knows our yards better than us now. Finally, sometime after midnight she found him behind neighbor’s house generator/ crawl space!!
She tried everything to coax this stubborn kitten out. Nothing. Finally, around 3:30am she set a kitten trap & said she watch from her car & text if she saw something. If nothing, we’d call our neighbor in the morning to see if they could get him.
I waited (fell asleep, sorry) and thought she was waiting maybe 1/2hr more. She sent me a text that she didn’t see him come out but would be back if neighbor couldn’t get him. At 7am!! She spent +9hrs trying to find and rescue this kitten.
I know this is long but really wanted to share how remarkable and selfless Lil Roar Cat Rescue is. They didn’t have to help us but did because of their devotion to the welfare of stray and feral cats in our area.
You will find no better organization if looking for information and on the importance of spay neuter programs for feral cats. You may never see a roaming cat, then one day end up with 10 at your front door.
Those who work and support animal welfare have an incredible blessing – the opportunity to save lives every day.

Urgent Plea for Dental Surgery Donations!

We are facing a critical need for dental surgeries for our cats this month. A minimum of THREE more dental surgeries are necessary, each costing between $1,000 to $1,500. These funds are essential and currently, we do not have them.

Since the beginning of the year, we have performed around 10 dental surgeries for cats needing tooth extractions. Many of these cats suffer from severe dental complications, such as stomatitis, which necessitate partial and complete teeth extractions. These procedures are vital for their health and well-being. Despite the challenges, their foster caregivers are doing everything possible to ensure their comfort, including providing more wet food to alleviate discomfort until their appointments.

📺 Meet TV – The Chatty Kitty Who Loves Cuddles and Belly Rubs! 📺

TV is a lovely Domestic Shorthair with a pristine white coat accented by soft brown patches, making her as unique as her name. This sweet adult cat has been with us for over a year, but she’s come a long way since we first rescued her from a parking lot where she lived with over 20 other cats.

Originally, we TNR’d (Trap-Neuter-Return) TV on our front porch because she couldn’t go back to where she came from. At first, she was hesitant and unsure, but with time, she began to show us her affectionate side. Now, TV craves human attention and loves to be petted. She’s an incredibly vocal kitty, always chirping and chatting when you give her the affection she desires.

TV adores having her butt scratched and will even roll over to show her belly for some well-deserved rubs! Bringing her back inside was the best decision we could have made for her, and now she’s ready to find her forever home where she can continue to thrive.

We named her TV because when we first trapped her, she loved to perch herself on top of the TV in our foster room—a spot that made her feel safe and in control.

🐾 Meet Zack – The Sweetest Cuddlebug Looking for a Loving Home! 🐾

Zack is a handsome Domestic Shorthair with a beautiful brown coat and an even more beautiful heart. Born on August 11, 2021, Zack is still young and full of life, ready to bring his affectionate nature to a forever family.

Zack is the ultimate cuddle companion—he loves nothing more than being close to his humans, especially when there are plenty of hands around to give him all the love he deserves. This sweet boy is incredibly gentle and gets along wonderfully with everyone, including kids (even the handsy toddlers!). Zack is also very vocal, making sure you know just how much he adores being part of the family.

FIP has taken one hell of a toll on Lil Roar this year. We have currently lost Acacia, Chrysanthemum, Ringo Starr, Kleo, Kai, and Ziggy. We have also lost a few others we suspect were FIP, but not confirmed. We currently have Amaryllis and Lavender (Lavi) going through treatment. While this is not a guarantee, it is the best shot we have at saving these sweet souls. The downside is the thousands of dollars these treatments cost. Here is an example of why it is so worth spending the money on. Lavi has made such a huge turnaround!! Here is a little about FIP if you have not heard of it before. Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a complex and often devastating disease that affects cats. It is caused by a type of virus called feline coronavirus (FeCV). While most cats who are exposed to this virus do not develop FIP, in some cases, the virus mutates into a more aggressive form that attacks the cat's immune system, leading to the development of FIP. Symptoms of FIP can vary widely and may include fever, weight loss, lack of appetite, jaundice, fluid accumulation in the abdomen or chest, and neurological issues. Unfortunately, FIP is difficult to diagnose definitively, and there is currently no cure for the disease. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and providing supportive care to affected cats.
