Now that we are finally back in the swing of things, we'd like to highlight our trip to Dressage at Lexington last week!

It was a scorching hot week full of triumphs, first-timers, and camaraderie. We had quite the group of horses - 11! Throughout the weekend, we had lots of excellent moments (and learning moments!) that showed true team work, good horsemanship, and determination.

Some exciting highlights from the weekend:

🔹Christie Cherry’s X-Calibur RS were awarded
Hugh Score First Level on Saturday, and were Champions at First Level, winning the Sport Horse Amateur Challenge!
🔸Elizabeth’s and Meadowbrooke's Get A Clue achieved their final Third level score towards Beth's bronze medal.
Congratulations to them on this great milestone!
🔹Diana Robertson and her Lusitano gelding,
Marialva CAL, moved up a level to Second and put in some great tests!

👏🏼Congratulations to ALL of our riders for their accomplishments and dedication to their horses.

Despite the blazing temps at last weekends Dressage at the Park horse show, we put in some great rides and had a fantastic time!

Obsessive Dream bred by MJ Proulx of Canadream Farm continues to impress with scores to 74.6% at only his second time out at training level.

Brilliance and I continue to gain confidence in the Grand Prix winning both days and earning the FEI high score award with a 69.8% on Saturday!

Ishin Maru had a tough time with the sound of the water trucks filling directly behind the judge box on Saturday, leading to a tense ride, but we redeemed ourselves on Sunday with a 65.6% earning us a second place.

Are you looking for a horse with loads of talent who can take you to FEI while also filling the role of “sweetest horse in the barn?” Georgie is it!

Georgie is a 2020 Oldenburg gelding. He was imported July 2023, and began light work once he settled in the US. George has three very good gaits. He is an elastic type horse, with excellent suppleness and self carriage.

Georgie recently competed in his first horse show in Raleigh, NC. He was very brave in a new environment, and he won his Materiale class!

Georgie will do best with a confident rider with an independent seat, either a professional, or an amateur working closely with a professional. He is not suitable for a beginner as he is forward thinking and sensitive.

Reserve High Score at Capital Dressage Classic!

KUBLA KHAN

Low-mid 5s starting with a 3️⃣

“Kuba” is a registered Holsteiner gelding that boasts big, beautiful gaits. He was a successful hunter derby horse before transitioning to do dressage full time. Kuba is currently schooling 1st and 2nd level dressage. He has shown at Training Level with his adult amateur mom, and made it to Regionals. The next year they competed at First Level, with scores nearing 70%. Kuba’s median score is 67.7%. He has tremendous ring presence. He is the same horse at a horse show, requiring zero prep or lunging.

He hacks out on trails, by himself or with others. Easy for vet, farrier, clipping, bathing, loads well, and travels well. He is an easy keeper. He does well in a group turnout, he makes friends with everyone. He loves treats, has a fabulous temperament on the ground, and excellent manners. Likes to be groomed and loved on.

The perfect home for Kuba would be someone who wants a super safe horse to do low level dressage (not Third Level) and occasionally jump (2’6 & under). Due to his bravery and jumping experience, we could see him shine as a low level eventer or fox hunter.

Owner does not want to go to a high performance hunter job or to someone who is looking to solely jump.

Team KCD had an excellent weekend at Capital Dressage Classic!

🔹Rommert and Sultan (piloted by Kelly and Cassandra) were 1st and 2nd at Second level, with a 68% and 65%.

🔸Christie Cherry’s Caleb was a First Level superstar with a 70% and 67%.

🔹Aline Matz was high score Training Level today with her girl, Cece.

🔸Beth Vincelette and Watson earned Third Level scores towards their Bronze Medal.

🔹Serendipity, proudly offered for sale, won the Materiale with a 75%. He was an exceptional boy for his first horse show ever.

Huge shoutout to M&M Tack for the friendly hospitality while we shopped and for outfitting Kelly in this beautiful Espoir show coat!

Headed back home after successful weekend at the Carolina Horse Park for the first show of the season!

Some highlights of the weekend were:

🔸Kelly’s Brillance was High Score FEI Large Tour, 69.8%

🔹Jan’s Ishin Maru debuted in the Prix St. George, and was the High Score FEI Small Tour, 68.2%

🔸Sultan and Cassandra had good tests with lots of learning moments. This team has improved a ton in the last 6 months, so it’s onwards and upwards with homework to practice!

🔹Corfu BRH was a champion this weekend coming to his first horse show! We are excited for Eileen and him to join us for more shows this season!

This sweet girl has the best in your pocket personality. She’s gentle, SAFE, easy to handle, sensible, and easily a barn favorite.
Stella is forward-thinking, but uncomplicated under saddle, so she requires a quiet rider. She is currently training between Second and Third Level, with a change.

While Stella loves her dressage job, we can see her excelling at a low level eventing or jumper job. She wants to please and is very willing.

No maintenance, other than the standard farrier/shots/chiro.

Happy New Year’s Eve!
I’m sure I echo the sentiment of many when I say I can’t believe how fast this year has gone.

It started out slowly as we faced a set of challenges in the first three months of the year, but it taught us a lot and, on a brighter note, brought our barn family closer and made us stronger.

Our show season started a bit later than planned, but once we got started, the horses and riders of KCD did not disappoint! Three riders made their dressage ring debut, several horses moved up a level, and my homebred mare, Brilliance, made her Grand Prix debut with incredible scores. I couldn’t be prouder of all the hard work the horses and riders put in over the last year.

2023 saw us:
- Rally around our barn family whose horses recovered from illness and injury
- Grieve with those who had to say goodbye to their heart horses far too soon
- Celebrate when new family members joined the barn – human and horse
- Cheer on the sidelines of the dressage ring after the great rides
- Provide hugs and encouraging words after the ‘learning experience’ rides

This past year has been one of resilience, tenacity, and most of all, gratitude.

I’m grateful to everyone who entrusts KCD with their horse’s care, for the incredible staff who show up every day to care for the horses, for the farriers and vets who keep our horses sound and healthy, for our clients who put in the time and hard work to keep improving, and most of all, for the horses who bring all of us such joy.

While 2023 is closing, 2024 is the beginning of a new 365-page book that YOU get to write.

Get your pen ready, it’s going to be a great year!

As today is National Day of the Horse, it's only fitting I celebrate my girl, Brilliance. I've had her since birth, and this year, we finally made our debut in Grand Prix. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for 2024!
