Wait for it... wait... did you wait?
Thereās a reason why Hunza is pristine. Itās because the people here take good care of their home.
That doesnāt always apply to tourists. I have seen too many rented SUVs speeding along the Karakoram Highway with bits of wrapper and plastic flying out of their windows.
Too many tourists walking around the streets of Altit, chucking their litter right on the street with astonishing nonchalance.
In Europe, fines for littering can go up to hundreds of Euros / Dollars. This gives people a great reason not to leave their rubbish behind.
This kind of system doesnāt really operate in Pakistan, so how about we start a collective responsibility movement?
Next time you catch yourself wanting to throw a wrapper on the ground, remind yourself to put it in your pocket.
When you see your mom or dad opening the car window to throw away their empty water bottle, ask them to keep it in their car because the Earth is not a skip.
When your friends chuck a napkin or plastic bag on the street, remind them with a smile that it can take hundreds of years for plastic to decompose.
Who has done this? Do you have other ideas for how we can protect our mother, our home, our planet?
