Riverine Retrievers is a small Labrador Retriever kennel located right outside of Viroqua, WI. The program is ran by McKenzie Kumlin and Jesse Robertson.

R Little Retrievers is a small breeding program located 5 miles outside of Viroqua, WI that specializes in the Labrador Retriever breed. All our dogs are registered through the AKC and UKC, and have obtained at least one title (whether it be in conformation or hunt tests). Before breeding all our dogs have their hips, elbows, heart and eyes evaluated through OFA and/ or PennHip, along with being tested for the Labrador Retriever Essential Panel through PawPrint Genetics.

I have two black 100% bench bred female Labrador Retriever puppies that I’m hoping to place before my back to back surgeries scheduled in two weeks! These two girls were born 01/08/2024- out of health tested parents (OFA- hips, elbows, eyes, cardiac echo, and DNA). The last picture will show their clearances along with pedigree. One is available to a pet home only, the other I’d consider a co/own on in the right circumstance. Both have been introduced to ducks and absolutely love them! We are located in Viroqua, Wisconsin- if traveling to us is an issue we can absolutely help with transportation! We can provide references! Due to the limited timeframe due to my upcoming surgeries please only inquire if actually serious and are ready to add a puppy to your family. Thanks!

It’s officially official! Both JoDee and Queenie have passed all their breed specific health tests! It’s been quite awhile since we’ve had some chocolate puppies around here, and now we have 2 females who can potentially help us change that 😜

We have two beautiful girls looking for their forever retirement homes! Both have been spayed.

Shimmer- 4 year old chocolate female- 3/4 show bred 1/4 field. She’s a short, stout very lovable girl!

Mel- 2 year old female golden retriever- pet/ field in type. Very quirky girl.

Both are available and are being offered at a reduced/ retirement rate, but are not FREE nor by any means “cheap”. Both come from completely health tested parents, Shimmer has had one previous litter and is fully health tested herself, both are spayed, and both will go to their new homes fully up to date on all vet work.

Some updates for everyone!

1.) We do still have some puppies available! For sure 2 Black Females in our Chaos x Gossip litter and then we will have a black male available as well- we held back one from our Rowdy x Nyufa litter and will compare him to the only male in our Chaos x Gossip litter. We will be choosing one to continue on with, making the other one available!

2.) We will be traveling down to the Chicago, IL area on March 3rd to attend a health clinic! We can definitely help with transport if you are down in the area and are thinking about getting one of our puppies!

3.) We will also be in Madison, WI on the 4th doing some OFA’s and can also transport to that area if need be as well!

Days like today really make me hate what I do and, oh how it kills me to have to write this 😭

Unfortunately Mistfit lost her battle early this morning, and we are all pretty devastated. We believe that she went into heart failure late last night which is often times a condition tied together with the cleft palate. We are thankful that Jimmy got to say goodbye to her before work, and the kids got to be with her a bit before bed, I held her until she passed early this morning. She didn’t live a long life, but she sure made an impact on us and we sure loved her. 💔

We tried for updated puppy pictures today for our Rowdy x Nyufa litter and it was a complete fail! 😩

They were super uncooperative and the lighting was not great, basically what pictures I did manage to get I’m admittedly not too happy with. So with that said we will try again tomorrow! Maybe we will take a trip outside even to take them if it’s nice out!

I just fed everyone their dinner, so if they don’t end up making too big of a mess we will still try and take our Chaos x Gossip litter pictures tonight yet.

As of right now it looks like all puppies in our Rowdy x Nyufa litter are spoken for.

Did you know? Dogs must be 24 months or older for OFA Hip and Elbow certification, and 12 months or older for Cardiac, Patellas, and Thyroid certification. There is no age minimum for eye certification, nor for DNA, since DNA does not change as the dog ages.

The OFA also does Preliminary evaluations on hips and elbows before 24 months of age. However, they will need to be re-evaluated again for a final certification once the dog reaches 24 months.

Rowdy x Nyufa litter update!

These guys are so smart! This is only their 3rd time with this exercise! They are quickly learning that a polite sit with eye contact equals a reward! 💕

*Misfit is unfortunately not allowed to have anything that could potentially end up in her nasal cavity so she couldn’t participate this time.

We have decided to retire Shimmer and are looking at placing her in the perfect retirement home. She just turned 5 years old the end of January, and we have her spay appointment scheduled for later this month (she will not leave here until after she’s fully recovered from her spay surgery). She is a very sweet, loving, quirky little dog! She is a smaller Labrador Retriever- way below standard hight wise which is one of the few reasons we have decided to go ahead and retire her early. She may be short but she is stocky! She weighs in at about 58 pounds. She is as sweet as can be! We absolutely adore her temperament, she’s super friendly and gets along with everyone! A few of her quirks are her bark (if you can even call it that lol), she does like to bark at times, but it’s super quiet, and honestly the most un-annoying bark I’ve ever heard lol! She is crate trained and for the most part super clean in her crate, except that she is a dog that loves her scheduled routine and if you veer off from it more than an hour she will likely leave you a mess.

She 100% doesn’t have to leave, and we are in no rush to place her, we just have younger puppies coming up that require a lot of attention and thought we would put feelers out there for the perfect retirement home where she will get more of that one on one attention she deserves.

Little “Misfit” update for everyone! We named her that because the litter was born on Christmas and we wanted to give Christmas themed names… well due to her cleft pallet- we landed on Misfit! From the land of the misfit toys in Rudolf! 😂

Anyways, over the past couple days we have been slowly starting the weaning process with her! She is currently being hand fed small cubes of puppy food jello before her tube feeding! She’s getting better and better with each feeding with me not having to shove it as far back in her mouth for her to swallow the pieces whole. I’m hoping we can gradually graduate in the next couple days with her starting to pick the pieces up herself and then swallowing them without help from me. 🤞🏻

We still have this young lady looking for her perfect placement! We have had multiple people interested in coming to look at her but something always comes up so here she still is! She is bird CRAZY! Loves to retrieve! Has been introduced to gun shots/ shot over. Nothing phases her. I’d absolutely love to see her in an active hunting/ test home! She is up to date on dewormings, shots (including rabies), flea, tick, and heart worm preventatives.

Making decisions is hard, with that said we have decided to look into possibly placing JoDee with another program. She’s currently 17 months old. Black- Chocolate Factored. Has a current OFA CAER eye exam. OFA prelims Hips- Good, Elbows- Normal. 6 months of professional gun dog training- Through basic obedience, fully kennel/ crate trained, force fetched, collar conditioned. Will pick up simple marks on both land and water, and super birdie. The bad? She’s still very much a “puppy” mentally so very immature and not super focused. Training has been a super SLOW process. She’s very hard headed and likes to do things on her terms and her way. She has her good days and bad days. She’s very mouthy, and even with a lot of corrections still likes to jump up on you if you let your guard down/ turn your back on her. If I’m being honest I just have other dogs in my program currently who I’d rather be focusing on right now so I’m willing to place her with another program who may have more time to give her. I literally just picked her up from my trainer so she is currently in “working condition”. I have yet to get updated stacked photos of her being we are currently going through an intense heat wave but I do have a ton of videos of her I can provide. Please be educated on the quality of her pedigree, and the amount of professional training she’s already received as her placement will reflect everything that’s been put into her.

They all got baths while I cleaned their pen… now they are acting like little tornadoes throwing shavings everywhere 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Puppies are outside having fun today! ❤️

The littles got moved to the bigger pen today… they aren’t too sure about the change just yet, though they have been doing pretty dang good with going in their potty boxes so far! This pen is located in our living room, here they will get the full experience of all the sounds and sights that happen throughout the house on an average day. They will be exposed to things such as the TV, video games, dishwasher, washer, dryer, kids, knocks on the door, people visiting, kitchen noises, dinner time, the radio, we will play a CD that has lots of different sounds such as fireworks, gun shots, traffic, crying babies, etc.

When people ask why pictures are delayed this week 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 Baths and pictures are planned for tomorrow!

First time eating out of a dish 🥰

I think we are all finally starting to all feel a little bit better 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Here’s a cute video I took of the puppies giving Baylor some kisses today ❤️ I tried keeping up with emails throughout the week, but it honestly was just too much. I’m just starting to feel human again today. With that said I’m going to go ahead and take today off to rest up and I should be back to responding to emails and phone calls tomorrow.

Here’s a short video of the puppies in their new area! This area will have a change made to it just about every day. We will swap out toys, beds, add new surfaces for them to play on, etc.
