Lots of lost pets recovered at the shelters after the 4th fireworks. If anyone is missing a pet, please check the shelters every few days.
The days following July Fourth celebrations are always especially busy at San Diego Humane Society. Unfortunately, we’ve already had more than 63 stray pets arrive at our shelters (including those pictured here), and our teams are working to get them back to their families as quickly as possible. If you or someone you know is missing a pet, please visit sdhumane.org/lostpet to see all of the found pets in our online database, as well as additional tools to help your search. You may also text "LOST" to 858-SAN-LOST for helpful tips and resources. Please share this information to help even more pet families in our communities know where to look for their missing pets!

We have five kittens looking for a new home.
Princess, our hospital cat ( or rather one of our hospital cats), is obviously stressed contemplating her upcoming 13th birthday next month.
Do you have one of these breeds?
It’s important to keep all dogs cool in the summer, but some breeds are more susceptible to heat and humidity. Here are 10 dog breeds that can’t tolerate summer heat.

I experienced one of the most touching euthanasia experiences today. I walked into the room to find a beloved Shepherd named Hero laying under the drape of an American flag. Hero was a retired military service dog who used to detect explosives. He was adopted out to the wife of his handler when his retirement came. Both parents have lovingly cared for him until his body finally wore out on him. He passed peacefully to the rainbow bridge with his parents watching over. There is no measure of how many lives his service may have saved. I was honored to help him pass peacefully even as I choked up on tears along with mom and dad.
We have two kittens in need of a loving home. Adoption cost is just the cost of the well kitten package to include all vaccines and dewormings microchipping etc from now until 4 months of age. Kittens have already been spayed and neutered.
Local dog owners are urged to keep their animals from velella velella, blue jelly-like blobs piling up along North County’s beaches.
Momma Cat is being a surrogate mom to a premature kitten born today whose mom hasn’t let down her milk yet.
Congratulations to this amazing vet who completed this insane race. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the documentary on this race. It’s crazy!
Any guess as to how we spent our Friday evening?
You know it’s going to be an interesting X-ray when the techs all start “oohing” and “gasping” at the X-ray when they take it, causing everyone else to stop and come into the X-ray room to take a look.
Mom and kittens are getting very well socialized so far
Thank you to the Rescues who bring in dogs and get them the care they need and new hope for a better life.
Who wants a kitten? One of our clients rescued a momma cat and we are taking care of the kittens here at shadowridge.
Back to Back appointments. Total opposites. ❤️my job.
Hopefully someone local will adopt Juliet do we can continue to care for her. She is a great dog and will make a great companion. Thank you to lab rescuers for allowing us to help her through her recovery. Lab rescuers is an amazing group and does more for the pets in their care than any rescue I have ever seen. Please consider making an end of year donation to them.

Saturday's Continuing Education Class...where you never know what you're gonna get, but you can always count on a good laugh and learn a thing or two! Here we learned "Weave", "Bow", "Paws Up", and one day, Kate pulled out Dobie, the CPR dog dummy, to teach us some basic CPR and Emergency Care for our pets. No matter what the topic is for the day, it always focuses on reinforcing all the skills you already learned in our Basic Obedience Class and having fun. It's also a great way to reconnect with Kate, ask questions, and tire out your pup. It's only $5 per class, and for an hour with Kate, you can't beat it! So, what are you doing this Saturday? (Sign ups at pawpartner.com under "Continuing Education". Pre-requisite-Must be a KSCEC Basic Obedience Graduate and have a sense of humor😁.)

Voila!! This foxtail was traveling behind the eyeball last week - pet presented with swollen left side of face and abscess behind eye. We could not get to a foxtail or find one in the area last week but we thought one was there based on signs and ultrasound. So we treated with antibiotics and waited to see if it would continue around the globe and emerge from the top of the eyeball. Sure enough, today Lady started to paw at eye and we numbed it with topical anesthetic agent. We then were able to grab the edge of the foxtail and remove it.
When it's too rainy at the park ... Bring your pets in to play in our Indoor Dog Park! Free to the public! Open M-F 8-6 and Saturdays 8-5.
Emmy is already recovered and sent home after presenting this am with a puppy stuck in her birthing canal. She had one live puppy delivered by C-section ( she had seven prior to the surgery at home). Even in recovery she is such a good momma. #savingLivesEveryday #ShadowridgeVet
Anyone want to guess what Dr Caroline found on Lucky, a ten week old Maltipoo, who is itching and will shake its leg to scratch when you rub the ear pinna/tips of ears?
Check out Snowflake! She just woke up two hours ago from an emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder and several large gallstones that were blocking her bile duct. She was at another hospital this week, then at the specialty hospital the last two days. When the clients could not afford surgery at the specialists, the dr there called us and asked her if we could do it. I love it when specialists actually refer cases to us! Such a compliment. So this afternoon Snowflake transferred to us, and within 30 minutes our board certified surgeon, Dr Frey at Softsurg, came in to do the surgery. Now she is recovering at Animal urgent Care in Escondido overnight #SpecialistsrefertoGP #vetssavingpets #gallbladdersurgery
Great reunion tonight. Nala walking out to go home with her family. She is doing great! Hard to believe we had our fingers literally on her carotid artery 4 days ago trying to save her life! Thanks to the unexpected Generosity of our clients, community, and a special person named Dennis Doc James, her surgery costs were covered and the family won’t have to make payments for her care. A happy ending!
