Anyone looking for two cute kitties ?

Another week of adoptions and another week where C.C. and Maggie were overlooked. I cannot for the life of me understand why these beautiful, sweet girls continue to sit at the adoption center waiting.

They love to play, they love to be held, and they are so ready to leave their foster days behind and become part of a family. I know if someone just came in and met them it would be game over and they’d be adopted. Unfortunately, they’ve just had zero interest and our volunteers’ hearts break for them.

If you’re thinking about bringing a kitten or two home, please consider C.C. and Maggie. They have so much love to give and I know whoever eventually takes them will have 15-20 years of added love, joy, and happiness because of them.

Please help boost this post by liking, commenting, and sharing.

DM me for more info or apply below to meet them!

👀 You may have come across the ads for these at-home ultrasonic tooth scaler/cleaning devices for pets. Although it may sound like a great idea to pet owners, using this kind of device at home is essentially performing anesthesia-free dental cleaning. It not only fails to clean pets’ teeth thoroughly, but it also poses many risks:
⚠ Without cooling with water, it can overheat teeth and cause damage.
⚠ It creates micro-scratches on enamel. Without polishing, the tooth surface becomes rough, and plaque will be more likely to adhere.
⚠ Teeth may look cleaner on the surface, but plaque and calculus are still present underneath the gumline, on the inside of teeth, and in other places where owners cannot reach while pets are awake.
⚠ The device aerosolizes bacteria during use, which will be inhaled by both pets and pet owners (dangerous!).
⚠ When it’s done for patients with painful dental conditions, it causes a significant amount of pain and discomfort. It can damage the relationship between pets and their owners, and in some cases, owners may be bitten by their pets.
⚠ Without proper diagnosis and treatment by professionals, disease can be hidden and will continue to cause pain and discomfort for pets.

⚠️ What to know about the major harmful algal bloom impacting Southern California waters, according to Scripps Oceanography biological oceanographer Clarissa Anderson, director of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS).

🌊 The bloom of the diatom Pseudo-nitzschia began in February—likely related to moderate upwelling conditions—and is still currently active in late March. Researchers have detected domoic acid in shellfish in Santa Barbara and south LA, while also detecting dangerous levels of saxitoxin, which causes Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, in shellfish in Santa Barbara. While the bloom is mostly impacting Southern California, it appears to extend as far north as Monterey Bay.

🧪 Pseudo-nitzschia is a type of plankton that can produce a neurotoxin known as domoic acid. When these plankton are consumed, domoic acid can accumulate in the tissues of shellfish and fish. When consumed by larger mammals, like sea lions or even humans, domoic acid can cause memory loss, seizures, and even death.

🦭 More than 330 sea lions and over 100 dolphins have been reported stranded as a result of the bloom. This event has caused more dolphin and seabird strandings than in the past three years, with the potential to surpass prior events in total strandings.

🐬 If you encounter a sick sea animal in San Diego, keep your distance and notify SeaWorld San Diego at 1-800-541-7325. To report a dead, injured, or stranded marine mammal along the West Coast, call National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s West Coast Region Stranding Hotline at 1-866-767-6114.

🔬 The weekly samples and technology used to track these blooms are operated and maintained by NOAA's Integrated Ocean Observing System. The monitoring and modeling that Scripps scientists do to mitigate harmful algal blooms would not be possible without critical support from NOAA.
