Just a little snippet of what we do on a weekly basis. I wish I started this video before I already unloaded four traps, but a little Prius can be packed out and transports usually 12 cats at a time. I spend the whole weekend out trapping feral cats so that they can be spayed/neutered, and vaccinated in order to control the feral cat problem that we have here on Long Island. On Sunday night, I load the car up, my hubby (a saint) drives them to his job on Monday morning, one of our volunteers who lives near his job goes there, unloads the cats from his car into hers, and then transports them to the vet. Later that afternoon, she picks them up from the vet, and returns them back into hubby’s car. That evening once they are back home and in our heated garage, they are recovered in XXL dog crates where they have access to a litter box, food and water, and a cat carrier with a warm blanket to sleep in. It takes a village, but this is a positive impact we have on the feral cat population here in our local area. In you are feeding ferals, please reach out to us or a rescue/shelter to assist with trap, neuter and return (TNR). Please don’t wait until cats get pregnant and start multiplying, do it right away, the cats will thank you!
Everyone, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Noel. She popped up out of the blue at an industrial area where we feed feral cats. It was obvious she didn’t belong there because she went right up to the feeder for a few pets. After several days, Noel jumped into the feeders car and he brought her to us. She has a super thin coat, which means that she was definitely a house cat and hadn’t been exposed to the cold yet, or she would have had a thick winter coat on her. We had her spayed and she is now fully vetted and looking for a home for the holidays. If you have it in your heart to give Noel a loving home, please PM us. This beautiful, petite little girl didn’t deserve to be dumped and left for dead to survive the harsh winter in an area with little to no shelter. She is a total mush and jumps in and out of my lap all day long and will roll over for belly rubs!!! Let’s find her a home for the holidays…
Night 2 of trapping at the same colony in Mt Sinai resulted in 15 more cats....and I saw even more that I didn't get yet, ugh. Long nights are OK when you're successful! TNR for Life!!!
Just one look of what happens in our rescue week after week to try to control the feral cat population on Long Island 💪💪💪
Let this be an educational lesson for all. This week I saw an urgent plea on Facebook for help. A young girl had to move, and could not take all of her cats with her. She needed to rehome around 20 cats!!! How on earth did a young girl have 20+ cats??? She adopted three cats two years ago….they were not spayed or neutered, and the reproduction process happened again, and again and again. We took in three adult females, four 12 week old kittens, and one of the females had four babies on Wednesday. We were happy to be able to jump in and take 11 cats off of her hands. This sadly happens all too often. This is why we NEVER adopt out unfixed cats/kittens. You simply cannot trust the homeowners to spay and neuter. Here is a short clip of Cosmo and her newborns; she is a first time mom and doing a good job at being a mommy!
Pepper is still searching for his happy ever after! He is 10 weeks old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested, and ready for you! Please share so we can find him a home for the holidays!
2 weeks old baby kittens rescued 8-26-21
Sometimes nosey neighbors are a good thing. Trapped a female cat tonight and as we were walking the trap to the car a neighbor came out and asked if we had a small grey cat, well yes we do. Okay well she has babies under my BBQ grill. Sigh. Are you sure? Yes. Sigh. More kittens. Welcome to NFFOF littles. This year has been brutal for rescue. PLEASE consider donating, fostering, or adopting. Venmo donations to NorthForkFOF
An Incoming litter of kittens puked up these beauties today. Our critical care while in foster includes specialty deworming to get rid of parasites like these. These are roundworms.
