Fat Cat Rescue

Fat Cat Rescue Our vision is a community where every animal is cared for. We have received our 501C3 non-profit tax status and now all donations are tax deductible.

FAT CAT RESCUE is a 501C3 licensed rescue for all types of animals who are lucky enough to come through our doors. When cats come to us they may be sick and skinny, but by the time we've loved them up they have become Fat Cats with healthy bodies, higher self esteem, greater trust in humans and a joy of living they haven't experienced in a long time if ever. So when we call a cat "Fat" we mean healthy and happy in every way possible.

FYI, Save this Life microchip company is NOT the microchip company that Fat Cat Rescue uses. This is merely an informational post letting you know that, if your cat was microchipped through another organization and they use Save this Life microchips, you will need to re-register your animal's microchip.

Taylor Update! 🌟

Taylor is thriving in foster care! 🏡 This gorgeous girl with her sleek, low-maintenance coat has shown us just how special she is. She loves to follow her foster mom around, chatting with the cutest little chirps, and enjoys affection on her own terms—which makes every cuddle even more special!

Taylor prefers a peaceful home where she can be the center of attention and truly shine. She’d be happiest as the only cat, where she can relax, explore, and bond with her favorite human. If you're looking for a sweet and independent companion, Taylor is ready to meet you! 💕

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month! 🐱🐾

Did you know that just one unspayed cat and her offspring can produce over 11 million cats in 9 years? 😲

How?
🐾A cat can start breeding as young as four months old.
🐾 A cat can get pregnant while still nursing.
🐾 A cat can have up to five litters per year.
🐾 A cat's gestation period is about two months.

That’s why spaying and neutering is one of the most important ways we can prevent cat overpopulation, reduce suffering, and give every cat a chance at a better life.

At Fat Cat Rescue, we’ve spayed/neutered over 12,000 cats in Lake County—but thousands more still need our help. It costs just $50 to spay or neuter a cat, and every dollar makes a difference!

💜 Will you help? Donate to our Pay for a Spay campaign and be part of the solution! Every $50 means one less wild litter and one more cat with a safer future.

👉 Stay tuned this month for more ways to help, and don’t forget to spread the word!

Snow White Needs a New Home – Can You Help?

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and with heavy hearts, Snow White’s family must find her a new home. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they will be moving out of the country and, as much as they love her, they can’t take her with them. They are heartbroken but committed to fostering her until the perfect family is found.

Snow White is a 6-7-month-old sweetheart who may be a little shy at first but blossoms with love and patience. She enjoys lap time, soft rubs, and back scratches. She’s playful—chasing wand toys, lasers, and even DIY toys—but also affectionate, giving gentle nibbles and licks to show her love. She may seem independent at times, but she truly loves being near her people, quietly soaking up their company. Her tiny meows and soothing purrs will melt your heart.

Her family wants to make sure she finds a home where she will be loved and cherished forever. Could that be you?

Katie found her perfect home!

Earlier this week, Katie went home with a wonderful family. Her new adopter is a granddaughter who brought her 95-year-old grandmother into her home to care for her. When they saw Katie’s story, they knew she was the perfect cat for them.

Since arriving, Katie has slept by her grandma’s side every night, bringing comfort and love. This is exactly the kind of happy ending we dream of! ❤️

We are excited to introduce the 2025 Spotlight Design featuring Baby Blue & focusing on FIP Awareness!

Each year, we’ll feature a special cat whose story highlights an important cause. This year, we honor Baby Blue—a survivor, a fighter, and a symbol of hope in the battle against Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).

Once a death sentence, FIP took the lives of countless cats, including a beloved Fat Cat Rescue kitten. But thanks to groundbreaking treatments and the relentless dedication of advocates, cats like Baby Blue now have a chance.

From surviving the streets to thriving in a loving home, from a devastating diagnosis to an incredible recovery, Baby Blue’s journey is a testament to resilience, love, and progress.

Throughout 2025, we will offer exclusive merchandise featuring this year's design, educational content, and ways to support FIP treatment accessibility. Please visit the new page on our website featuring Baby Blue's story and FIP information and resources. https://www.fatcatrescueinc.org/2025-spotlight

Join us in raising awareness, celebrating victories, and fighting for the future of FIP-positive cats everywhere. Stay tuned for more on Baby Blue’s story and how you can be part of the movement! 💙🐾

Music and Cats: A Purrfect Harmony 🎶🐱

Did you know that music can affect cats in fascinating ways? Many cat lovers have found specially composed music to be as useful as pheromone plugins for relaxation!

🔸 Unlike humans, cats don’t respond much to our music—but they do react to sounds that mimic purring, suckling, and bird calls.
🔸 Studies show that cats prefer music with tempos and frequencies similar to their natural vocalizations (higher-pitched and rhythmic).
🔸 Kittens raised in noisy shelters have been observed to calm down when exposed to feline-specific music.
🔸 Some vet clinics and shelters use music designed for cats to ease stress during exams and recovery.
🔸 A 2019 study in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery found that playing cat-specific music lowered stress scores in cats at the vet.

Want to try it? Check out David Teie’s Music for Cats—a playlist composed with feline-friendly sounds, including gentle strings, soft purring vibrations, and rhythmic pulses that mimic natural cat communication.

Fat Cat Rescue has no association with this, but we love sharing interesting cat facts! Let us know if your cat responds! 🎵🐾
