Let’s talk CHOW 🐶

🔆 We recently started making Pinky’s food and WOW!

🔆 She’s been more energetic, itching less, has better, bowel movements, and the licking has gone down tremendously!

‼️ Not everyone has the budget to feed their dog human grade food (and some companies don’t make it any more affordable).

🔆 I’ve been following The BK Pets for a bit now and they have such amazing k9 nutrition content! I bought their guide and I can tell you that we aren’t spending as much because we know EXACTLY what she needs!

🔆 This week pinky’s meals will consist of (pretty much what we had in the freezer 😅)
Pork
Raw Chicken bone
Spinach & broccoli
Freeze dried beef liver
Pineapple (she got to it before I could snap the pic lmao)
A dab of cottage cheese
& a bit of pumpkin to help her tummy adjust.

Even though you might be tempted at times to share that snack with your dog, remember that there are certain artificial sweeteners that are either toxic (ie. Xylitol!) or might cause digestive issues for your dog and are best avoided. That's why *before* giving them that special treat take a second to read the labels on your food to decipher whether these are dangerous or safe for your bestie.

A rebrand was necessary to give credit to my buddy who started it all. KENT 🩵

Here to say I’ve been making some upgrades to training programs, lessons and my board & train.

I’m now sending each client home with a CUSTOM booklet!

I was thinking of all the ways my experience as a lesson client (way back when) could’ve been improved..

if you’re type A, like me 😅..

One major thing for me was not being able to remember every single thing I learned. This caused me to fumble at home, it gave me some anxiety and made me nervous to train.
It didn’t boost my confidence which is what you need to have as a leader!

🐾 WAHT IS the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen certification?? 🐾

The AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate is a form of Advanced Obedience that a lot of therapy dogs require and is something that service dogs SHOULD have!

It includes passing the follow tasks/lessons:

#1 accepting a friendly stranger
#2 sitting politely for letting
#3 appearance and grooming
#4 out for a walk (loose leash walking)
#5 walking through a crowd
#6 sit and down (staying in place)
#7 coming when called
#8 reaction to another dog
#9 reaction to distraction
#10 supervised separation

🐶 Once evaluated by me, I have you or I fill out a form that I will we will send to AKC and they will notify you of your registration as an AKC CGC!
- You can choose to receive a certificate or ribbon etc!

🐶 Lessons for this start at $70 per lesson. Evaluation is $50, however if you don’t pass the first time, each additional evaluation is $15.

🐶 I have a lesson package that includes an ecollar for training as well (but can not be used on the exam)
Which is $800, and also includes 8-9 1hr long sessions, two training leads (slip and long), a ribbon, certificate, and the evaluation fee!

🐶 I also do a CGC - Board and train as well that also includes everything above ^ starting at $1700 for 2weeks where I will give your dog a solid foundation. - Lessons (3-4 depending on how each task is learned) will be required after the board and train to help you learn your pups new language and how to best display his/her Obedience. Lessons will be discounted at $10 per lesson, and will last 1hr!

HI! My name is Mackenzie!

I never had dogs growing up SO.. when I graduated college and brought home our first family dog (Kent, the little brown and back cutie) in 2018. it’s safe to say I fell hard. I was SO in love with him and being a dog mom but I knew NOTHING about training, behavior, growth and development, nutrition, safety of puppies and dogs etc. I was working as a Registered Respiratory therapist (all my RRTs wya 🤘🏼) in Philly and knew I needed some guidance because all I wanted to do was give my little guy the best life ever. I started as a lesson client and immediately was hooked with dog training, kents progression, and our new bond that was formed through Obedience! Heck, I was at the off leash training facility so often.. they offered me a job 😅

This is a SMALL group registration (5-10 dogs) so it will be first come first serve!

What is S.T.A.R Puppy program?
- AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program is a program designed to help owners work on a basic training with their puppies

What’s included in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program:
- After completion, your pup will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records!
- Your pup will receive an AKC S.T.A.R Puppy ribbon!
- Training treats and lead will be provided!
- Discounts for AKC Canine Good Citizen Class!

How long is the program?
- The program consists of 6 total sessions!
- We will hold ONE, 2 hour session every other weekend.
- If necessary, there will be ONE make up class.

What are the goals of the S.T.A.R Puppy Program?
- Provide socialization to puppies enrolled in AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy classes
- Provide basic training to puppies and owners
- Teach owners about the appropriate amount of exercise (or activity) for their puppies
- Teaching owners how to be responsible dog owners

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is a noncompetitive activity that is open to all dogs including purebreds and mixed breeds!

It's been an estimated 15,000 years since dogs were domesticated, and over that span of time, humans have created 199 different breeds of dogs (as recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2022.)

Dog breeds are meant to look a certain way, perform a specific job, and possess a certain suite of characteristics that makes them true to their breed (with many variations, of course.)

Yet so often, dog guardians come to me with concerns or complaints about their dogs behavior - behavior that their dog was intentionally bred to perform.

We don't like when herding dogs chase things that move.
We don't like when guardian breeds bark at intruders (welcome or not.)
We don't like when terriers bite and shred things.
We don't like when Huskies vocalize.

And so often, I am asked to show guardians how to make these behaviors STOP.

It really makes me wonder and question: just because we can modify behavior, does that mean that we should?

So much of our dog's behavior is instinctual and driven by genetics. How is it fair to then condmnm them for performing the very behaviors we bred them to do?

This brings up such an important point about proactive research when choosing a dog to bring into your home.

We need to learn about the breed(s) of dog we are considering.
What were they orginially bred to do? What behaviors does that involve?

We must also eppreciate that, in the absence of a proper job these behaviors will still be present, and will find a different outlet for rehearsal.

If you don't want a vocal dog, the Husky may not be for you.
If you don't want a dog that is obsessed with birds, you probably shouldn't bring home a field line Spaniel.

Doing your research and choosing a breed of dog that fits your lifestyle and your ambitions for a dog is SO important.

A great resource for dog breeds and breed-specifc behavior is: "Meet Your Dog" by Kim Brophey.

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A WONDERFUL AND SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON! 🎊❣️

We had lots over family join us over the past two months and it sure was magical.
We also took a much needed rest this holiday and we are now ready to get back to business 👏🏼

I say “we” because it really takes my whole family to make doing what I love possible! My husband.. between being Active duty, unexpected traveling, training exercises, and being an AMAZING father to our 8mo and two pups… He really does a lot of behind the scenes and I couldn’t be more thankful.

******IMPORTANT: to anyone that has been trying to contact me on whatsapp, it has not been working for me and I’m honestly not sure how long it’s been down. I will be removing the link from my page. PLEASE reach out through FB messenger or if you have my cell, text me directly!
