Tired of playing "Catch Me If You Can" with your dog every time they bolt through your front door? It's time to build a rock-solid recall!

As a responsible dog owner, mastering recall is non-negotiable. Not only does it keep your dog alive, but it also ensures the safety of those around you in the event they take an unplanned excursion around the neighborhood.๐Ÿ˜…

Here's how I approach recall training:

1๏ธโƒฃ Start by hand-feeding your dog to build trust, teamwork, and interest in food rewards for following simple instructions like staying calm and responding to their name.

2๏ธโƒฃ Move on to long line work (30ft+) and pair your dog's name with the motion of moving towards you, assisted by the leash. Reward them with food upon reaching you to build drive and put value on their name.

3๏ธโƒฃ When they don't comply, give a firm "No" followed by a straight-line leash pop in the opposite direction. This sequence associates punishment with the word "No," putting meaning behind it in the future in the absence of your leash.

4๏ธโƒฃ Practice this process to build your dog's recall by name, on-leash, and off-leash through solid name recognition and leash cues when voice commands can't be used.

Want to dive deeper into recall training? Grab my comprehensive guide, "Recall Training 101," a part of my 30-Day DFY Basic Obedience Training Bundle, and let's work together to change your dog's recall from a game of chance to a reliable lifesaver! ๐Ÿพ

There is a cult within the dog training community that would have you believe anything that isn't hearts, treats and rainbows runs the risk of ruining your dog and relationship. Rarely will they have tangible proof of their claims or any history successfully remedying any real problems themselves.๐Ÿฅด

These same individuals scream from the hill tops about study after study in regards to dog behavior, how training tools like the E-collar are the devil and would also have you believe that your dog should be put to sleep, doped up on anxiety meds 24/7 or handled like a toddler for the rest of their lives when you start experiencing problems. ๐Ÿคฌ

So the next time they have anything negative to say about you or your dogs training say "Show me" and lay the pressure on thick. They'll either show their work like your 8th grade math teacher did or they'll fold under the pressure like fresh laundry ๐Ÿ˜‚

Put the ball in their court and put the burden of proof on them. After all, they came for you. You didn't send for them ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ever wondered why your dog's training isn't progressing as you hoped? ๐Ÿฅด

SAVE THIS POST! โœ๐Ÿพ

What if I told you staying in your comfort zone is the reason behind it? ๐Ÿค”

Let's dive into a self-reflection exercise. Write down these 3 things in columns:

โœ… What you're comfortable doing to help your dog's behavior change.
โœ… What you're uncomfortable doing that may help your dog's behavior change.
โœ… Your non-negotiables (like coming when called).

Now, at the bottom of the page, jot down your training goals. Dig deep here; it might get a bit bumpy. Ask yourself: Why do those specific things make you uncomfortable? Is it due to peer pressure, past experiences, a skill gap, or the act itself?

Peel back the layers and reflect. ๐Ÿง  Do your comfort zones and non-negotiables align with your goals?

Remember, just as we train our dogs, we must also train ourselves. The human end of the leash is the most crucial aspect of dog training. Are you ready to do what's necessary for both you and your dog to thrive?

Drop your answers in the comments below! What are a few things on your list? ๐Ÿ“

The Compassionate Dog Owner's Guide ๐Ÿพ

Let's go back in time for a second. Back to 1992 to be exact.

Michael Jackson was the king of Pop. ๐ŸŽถ

Michael Jordan was the king of Basketball. ๐Ÿ€

In Michael Jackson's video for the song 'Jam', he featured Michael Jordan. Remember that?

In the video, Jordan showcased his legendary basketball skills, and Jackson his unparalleled dance moves.

Then it became interesting. ๐Ÿค”

Jordan tried to dance, and his lack of rhythm was on full display.

Jackson tried to play basketball, and his lack of skill was equally evident.

Your dog, like these legends, has areas where they excel. You chose your dog for their unique strengths, whether thatโ€™s loyalty, intelligence, or agility.

If you try to force your dog to excel in areas where they are weak or genetically unfit you may be disappointed by their struggles.

My advice, focus on their strengths. ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ

Here's an exercise for you this evening to help you get started.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

For your dog, do the following:

1. Write out 3-5 areas where you are SURE your dog excels. (Every dog has its day, and every pup has its strengths. Look closely, and you will find them).

2. Write out 3 areas you think your dog can improve on, that will help them become a better companion and live a happier life.

3. Sit down with your dog and observe these things. Ask yourself if helping them improve would help you?

Listen when they 'talk'. ๐Ÿพ
Take notes. ๐Ÿ“
Ask questions. โ“
Celebrate the areas where they are strong. ๐ŸŽ‰
Be kind when you address their weaknesses. ๐Ÿ’•

4. Organize/pay for them to attend obedience training to help them:
- Sharpen their skills in those areas where they excel.
- Improve in those areas where they are weak.

Training can be online or in person, but invest in the personal growth of your dog. Your life will be richer for it. I'm here to help when you're ready to take that next step in your dogs journey. ๐Ÿถ

Dog training tools aren't from Hogwarts! ๐Ÿช„

Without proper understanding and effort, they're just objects. An experienced coach is invaluable, guiding both you and your dog through the learning process. Without this guidance, gaps in training can emerge, leading to unwanted behaviors. ๐Ÿฅด

Rumor has itโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคซ

Thereโ€™s a lot of chatter in the dog world lately, some of which is true and some of which is completely false!

To put those rumors to bed, here are 5 common myths youโ€™ll most likely hear during your dogโ€™s training journey that you should DEFINITELY ignore:

โœจ Myth #1: Punishing your dog hurts your relationship: Have you ever burned your hand on the stove even though someone said don't do it prior? You haven't touched a hot stove since have you? Timely punishment just like a timely reward is the difference between your dog fully understanding right from wrong or living a life full of confusion and discomfort.

โœจ Myth #2: Putting your dog inside a crate (Cage ๐Ÿฅด) is cruel: Crate training your dog gives them a safe space, the equivalent to your own private bedroom at home, when they want to avoid the chaos presented by other dogs, to possibly get away from guests they do not want to socialize with and gives them the confidence they need to be secure in themselves when left alone for long periods of time.

โœจ Myth #3: E-collars are barbaric and should be banned: I too like to live on the edge. If E-collars are going to be banned because of misuse then I guess we should start banning folding chairs too. Weโ€™ve seen the damage those things can do lately. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€

โœจ Myth #4: Itโ€™s all about how you raise them: This couldnโ€™t be further from the truth. Although the way you raise your dog does influence their future behavior, to an extent, your dogs genetics and breed also play a huge part in the character traits displayed at any given time. For instance an American Pitbull Terrier being dog aggressive isnโ€™t surprising at all because of the breeds original purpose in the fighting pits. That blood is still in your fur baby by the way.

โœจ Myth #5: Dogs are supposed to be eager to please us!: Nope, that's not true either. Have you ever heard โ€œMy dog does so well with the trainer but not for me!โ€ before? The dog is eager to please the black and white leader. Not the one that floats in grey.

Has this provided you with some clarity? If so, spread the word by sharing this post to your story! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

๐Ÿถ LEADERSHIP IN DOG TRAINING: A NEW PERSPECTIVE

Mirror mirror on the wall who is the most consistent of them all? Would it be you? ๐Ÿง

Is your dog's behavior a reflection of stubbornness or a mirror to your own habits? ๐Ÿค”

That's the million dollar question isn't it? Think about it. Your dog's actions are shaped by what you reinforce, allow, and the leadership you provide. If you aren't being consistent you know who is? Nature and you don't want them teaching your dog anything without your input. ๐Ÿฅด Trust me, you'd do a lot better just spending the 10 minutes a day doing it yourself.

Dive into our latest thread to explore how being cool, calm, confident, and consistent can transform your relationship with your furry companion.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results."

- Albert Einstein

My question to you is if you know what situations your dog is "stubborn" in then why do you keep repeating the same thing? It hasn't worked up until now so why keep doing it?

How can you expect your dog to change when you're too stubborn to change your ways and give them a reason to change? How many times have you told your dog not to beg for food yet there they were bright eyed and bushy tailed at dinner time. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

What signals are you sending your dog when you say one thing, but don't follow through to ensure it's done? Would you care about anything coming out of your mouth if it had a proven track record of meaning nothing? ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธโŒ

Remember, dogs are learning 24/7 and that includes them learning where you're consistently inconsistent. Your dog isn't the stubborn one in this relationship. You are. The dog isn't to blame for your inability to change. ๐Ÿซฃ

Do you agree or disagree with my point of view?

If you're ready to make that step to be the change you wish to see in your dog I'm here to help. DM me today to learn how to get started training with me and become the cool, calm and CONFIDENT handler your dog deserves. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

Remember, a good dog trainer doesn't just train your dog, they coach YOU. ๐Ÿพ It's not just about 'sit' and 'stay', it's about understanding your dog's world and healing the bond between you two.

Dog training is often more about the human at the end of the leash. It's about uncovering the 5 Ws of your dog's behavior and helping you heal from any unrecognized trauma. Obedience training is just the tool we use to get the job done fastest.

Lately Iโ€™ve been trying new things because itโ€™s time to level up! Here is what I've been up to ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

1. Vibrate only E-collar with 100 variable levels ๐Ÿคฏ outdid themselves with this and so far so good over the last few months of testing. All of you dog moms and dads against "Shock" collars can't run from me now ๐Ÿ˜

2. Wholistic Pet Organics Dog Supplements has been something we have been trying with our dogs over the last almost 12 months and they're thriving. We highly recommend it. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

3. Rest days - just like we need days off so do our dogs and for the last few years they've been accustomed to 1 day off per week. Over the last 6 months i've bumped it up to 2 days off per week with their increasing age and they're even stronger in their training ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Weโ€™ve all heard the news, right? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

If youโ€™re worried that too much affection will negatively affect your relationship with your dog, hereโ€™s what you should know.

Despite the crazy theories circling the community, it will only affect you if you don't set clear boundaries from the start with obedience training or stop reinforcing those boundaries allowing your dog to practice negative behaviors.

And if youโ€™re in that position, thereโ€™s something you can do to make this news work exactly in your favor ๐Ÿ˜

Add 'Place' training to your dog's training regimen so that they'll be confident and calm when away from you on those days when alone time is needed instead of a barking mess in the next room. ๐Ÿฅด

News Flash! Your dog doesn't have a protective bone in their body ๐Ÿคฏ

Hey Dog Mom, have you ever said this before? "Oh he's just protective of me that's all."

Well, we've got some dog training advice for you. If you haven't enrolled in basic obedience training or protection training with your dog, then guess what? They're not being protective, they're being aggressive and insecure. They don't believe you can handle life at the other end of the leash. They don't believe you're confident enough to lead them through any situation safely. They believe it's their job to take charge and be the leader in your relationship.

That's why they bark at random people during your walks, hoping the "bad man" minding his business goes away and stops making them feel uncomfortable. They lunge and attempt to bite anyone that comes near because your anxious energy makes them believe they have to dispatch the nearest "threat".

Fixing your aggressive dog starts with fixing the way you think and how you carry yourself around your dog. When you're a cool, calm, and confident owner, instead of anxious and fearful, who consistently shows your dog what you like and don't like, you're also building your dog's confidence in those situations.

Not only will they be more confident and able to control themselves in those situations, but when you ask them to do anything, they'll be clear-headed enough to complete the task.
