‼️ACTION NEEDED ‼️
DEADLINE NOON JULY 22nd

Bill 51, which criminalizes caring for cats on county property, passed its first step to being law with a 7 to 1 vote. Council person Jennifer Kagiwada is the ONLY one who voted against it. 👍🏻 July 23rd it will have its second reading and vote and the Mayor will eventually have to sign off on it.
It’s important to let our county council people and Mayor know, we do not support those that support this.
Let them know how disappointed we are in them and the decision to choose animal cruelty by starvation over TNRM. Enforcing our laws against abandonment and cruelty. Proper colony management, spay/neuter, fostering and adopting……these are the answers.

I know a lot of you are visitors who have come to love the cats you meet along the way while you vacation. Let your voices be heard too ! Let our lawmakers know how you feel ! 🙀

9 days later, the brothers are reunited ❤️ These 2 cuties were abandoned at a spot where they were not welcome. #1 hopped in a tuna laden trap within minutes…….. #2 resisted tuna, salmon, chicken and cat food. But all’s good now, they’re settling in. #2 has an even bigger purrrrr motor than #1 They’re both sweet boys, obviously not from the wild. There hasn’t been a single hiss or growl. 😻
They’ll be neutered the 21st and looking for their furever homes.

He’ll be neutered the 21st and then ready for his furever home……..not my home !

After hours of testimony, both for and against, the county council vote was 7 to 1 and 1 absent, in favor of passing Bill 51 along with amendment 283.1 Councilwoman Jenn Kagiwada was the only one voting no, thank you for trying.
A huge disappointment to cats and their caretakers around the island 😿
There will be a lot of questions as this moves forward. When will it take effect, who will enforce it, the amendment mentions existing county s/n programs continuing, whatever that means. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Thank you to everyone who spoke in person, on zoom and wrote in for the voiceless, the cats. ❤️
More news to come as things unfold.

‼️ RED ALERT ‼️
Testimonies needed by noon July 7th

Tuesday, July 8th Hawaii County Council will be voting on Bill 51. This bill criminalizes feeding homeless animals on county owned land. 😡
We need to let them know voting NO is the only way to go. Email [email protected]
Call or write individual council people, we need 5 no votes.

Volunteers who have put their hearts, souls, time and money into caring for these animals will be fined.
And what’s to become of the animals, for the purpose of my argument, I’ll say cats. What happens to these abandoned cats that humans have already failed ?

The population will grow without caretakers to
spay/neuter them. Starvation will set in and the cats will suffer, starvation is a horrendous way to die.
Some cats will roam to nearby properties in search of food and water, expanding the colony.

Stop criminalizing the humans tirelessly working so hard to fix the animal crisis. Enforce our animal cruelty laws. Criminalize the criminals dumping the animals.

Work with caretakers, more free spay/neuter clinics, free wellness clinics for sick and injured cats, support them rather than make them criminals.

Christmas in June continues 🎉 Thank you Aunty Patricia ❤️ P**p bags, purrrfect for putting our trash in, ziplocs for portioning out the days feedings, and they last for weeks……..if the cats don’t chew holes in them while waiting to be served. 🤣 And more trapping supplies. I continue to be awed and humbled at the incredible generosity of our cat friends 😻
