5 week pup-date! The Aloha litter is consistently going potty in their potty area, playing with toys and roughhousing together, enjoying and exploring outside, doing wonderful with their weekly baths and from 2 lbs 3.8 oz to 2 lbs 13.3 they are all growing steadily. More and more handling is happening, they regularly seek/ask for attention and eating their puppy food more and more!

On 12/14 the Island Trifecta litter turned 2 years old! I remember them being born like it was yesterday and can’t believe how quickly time has gone. We are so blessed to stay in contact with our wonderful puppy families (from Maryland to Hawaii) and love every single update. It’s such a blast watching them all grow up! Happy birthday to Kona, Cammy and Kai, hope this is a great year for all you sweet pups 💝

Another week of progress for these gorgeous Cavalier pups! The Aloha litter is now four weeks and from 1 lb 13.6 oz to 2 lbs 8.9 oz they all continue to thrive. They fully bark, growl and play with each other, walk and navigate around obstacles and have graduated to the family room puppy pen.

Now begins the process of teaching them the difference between where to sleep, and where to potty and a slow start into weaning since all their little puppy teeth have popped through…momma Meli will be very grateful for that 😉

They are all so good with being handled, getting their weekly nail trims, and getting accustomed to light brushing, they have no problem being on their backs and are very aware of their surroundings.

Introduction to “scary” sounds have started through on hand items as well as YouTube videos and they are doing very well so far.

As always, we’re excited to see what this next week will bring 🥰

Pictures were taken yesterday when they hit three weeks… Just couldn’t get to post about them until today 😆 it’s amazing how much a week can change things, they are all walking around, starting to bark and play with each other, and of course, getting lots of time at the milk bar. From 1 lb 8.6 oz to 2 lbs 1.5 oz, they are all starting to have their little personalities come out, some more chill and others more vibrant, and we have a couple adventures finding their way over the panel in the whelping box so we had to add the second one for more height! It won’t be much longer before they join us in the living room to start taking in the everyday sounds and sights as well as slow introductions to the rest of the ohana 💕

Bath day for these little Cavalier puppies! The Aloha litter did beautifully 🥰 All were calm throughout their baths, handled the dryer no problem and hand their nails trimmed with barely a wiggle!

The Aloha litter is 2 weeks old! From 1 lb 2.7 oz to 1 lb 10.3 oz, they are all vibrant little puppies 💞 Eyes have all peeped open, they are crawling around pretty impressively and Meli continues to take wonderful care of them all ☺️ ENS exercises will be ending shortly and I’ll be switching over to desensitization exposure (sounds, smells, textures etc) Their world is still contained to the whelping box with momma but will slowly be getting more handling/one on one time with us as well as weekly nail trims starting. We are absolutely loving watching their growth! 🌺

Here they are! 🤗 One week old and everyone is doing AMAZING. From 9.6-14.1 oz, the Aloha litter is looking SO good and gaining weight daily!

All are crawling beautifully to Momma milk bar, they are getting their daily ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) exercises, and ALL have loving homes waiting for them 🥰

I’m sure you caught on to the hello and goodbye versions of their names, which is why we chose the Aloha theme 🤙🏽

Also, we love welcoming every new puppy into our ohana, and it’s always bittersweet when they move on to their new homes, but that is the beauty of Hanai…We are always connected and forever family 🌺

Real talk for a moment (feel free to ignore this virtual soapbox moment and check out the next post covering our Aloha Litter puppies 😉):

Something I struggle with (especially these days) is slowing down. I start every day, week and month with tasks, goals and expectations and when things don’t get done it’s hard to accept.

To have so many aspirations and the desire to share every aspect of being not only a dog breeder, but Cavalier owner and the daily behind the scenes moments and not able to produce…it honestly drives me crazy.

No time for the edited photos, production of YouTube videos, clever, fun and informative shorts/reels. I want to give so much but with the real life duties that can’t go undone, I am forced to make daily decisions to prioritize, even when the things I want to do have to be put off.

Please know that I am here, I do and always will love what I do and when I’m not present online, it’s because I’m being present with my family, my dogs and I am plotting and planning for all the ways I can give back to you all as soon as life gives me a moment.

I seriously couldn’t do any of this without you all, I love my Hanai ohana and the future is so bright. So I’m taking this slow down moment while I can with these special girls 💕

Even with all this being said, I love your messages, emails and texts with questions, comments, ideas for videos. If there’s anything you’re ever curious about or want more info on, please let me know and as soon as I can, I’ll make it happen 🥰

I know I’ve left everyone hanging but the Aloha Litter is here! Born on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 💕 There are 2 blenheim boys, 2 ruby boys and 2 blenheim girls (there was a 7th puppy that was premature and had its wings already 🪽)

Meli did fantastic, there were no complications and they are all growing and thriving!

Why the “Aloha” litter theme you may be wondering 🤔 …well this litter is a special one. This is Meli’s first litter that we welcomed into the world so “hello” to them and this is the last litter for Puaʻa, so we are saying “goodbye” to him as our stud (he’s staying with us and is in perfect health but being 8 years old now, he’s earned his golden years 💖).

Their litter names and individual puppy pictures should be coming out tomorrow, 4 of the puppies are RESERVED and I’m still working through our wait list, so expect a call if you’re already on the list.

If you are not in Hawaii, we only offer 1 puppy from each litter to a home on the mainland; so reach out now if the timing of this litter works for your ohana!

We brought Meli to the vet on Friday and she is very pregnant 😆 our sweet girl is expecting SEVEN puppies, it’s possible to have blenheims and rubies in this litter. She is due anytime this week, possibly closer to the weekend. As per usual, we will be reaching out to those on our waitlist after puppies are born, though deposits won’t be accepted until 1-2 weeks later to make sure puppies are thriving 💕

Little Miss Meli had her pre-whelp bath and groom today 🛁
Meli has a lovely coat, which means I did a LOT of clipping to make sure we can keep things as sanitary as possible for her and her upcoming pups. The trouble area behind her ears and armpits, around her delicates, butt fluff, tummy/milk bar and her grinch feet (not something I normally do, but she had such excessive fluff that it will make her and our lives way easier trimming up her feet and toes).
We took lots of breaks and she had to lie down for most of it but Meli is all ready and looking like a gorgeous momma-to-be!

You might say we’re staying busy in our hale 😆 Meli is due next week with her first litter (retirement litter for Pua’a), Nohea should be bred around this weekend (with Hapa) and Pea just started her heat yesterday (she won’t be bred). The boys are very preoccupied with all this going on and we’re having to play the rotation game so they all have plenty of free/family time. Wish us luck over here! 😅

From the day we brought Puaʻa home, this special boy has been the absolute BEST dog I could have imagined. A very happy 8th birthday to my best little buddy, handsome pawpaw to all his sweet puppies and the most wonderful Cavalier that began our whole breeding journey 💝 Here’s to hopefully many more years Pu-bear!

Dog breeding is a journey…while every puppy is lovely, special and perfect in their own right, we are continually striving for better health, structure, temperament and all the finer details that make this breed so special.

We put all this work and care into each puppy we produce, the dogs we care for and our breeding decisions because it’s not about us and our program - it’s about the puppies we produce, the families that join our ohana and the individuals the we interact with along the way.

That is why we maintain transparency, foster connections, try to nurture a balanced view of being a Cavalier owner and share our journey along the way. Every breeder starts somewhere (we’ve grown so much in our knowledge, methodology and tactics since starting 7 years ago) but it’s the decisions along the way that show the character.

Does that mean we are perfect, far from it! Do we take our program, our interactions and the details that will affect our Hanai family seriously? Most definitely!

Spunky little Lei (now Bjorne! 🥰) was united with her new owner on Oahu over the weekend 🌺 It was such a sweet and special day, she was a wonderful traveler, made so many new friends at the airports, she also got to see her brother Dash Tanner again and it’s wonderful knowing they will continue to be in each other’s lives! We put so much care into choosing our Hanai family and love seeing our puppies join their perfect ohanas 💝
