If you find a "dead" hedgehog during the cold months, do not bury it, do not throw it in the trash...

No one wants to see a dead animal in their garden or road, but it could be a hedgehog hibernating from November to March.

They usually dig holes to stay safe, but we have less green areas, bushes or wooded areas these days and it’s becoming harder to find a safe place to spend the winter sleeping.

Some may come into your gardens seeking safety and warmth to hibernate, some are so exhausted from looking that they end up sleeping in various strange places like roadside streets or even on pavements.

When they are in hibernation, their heart rate and general body functioning slow down considerably, as a way of saving energy that can confuse a person that the hedgehog is dead.

Just in case you see a stationary hedgehog, make sure it is in a safe and warm place and that it can last five months.

If you find a hedgehog in your garden or somewhere on the street, make a hole in a cardboard box and in a dry, safe and quiet place so it can spend the cold months there.

Hedgehogs are an endangered species, they are completely harmless and very important in our ecosystem. They eat beetles, snails, frogs, lizards, snakes, including poisonous.

They also destroy mice nests.

They are not afraid of bees or wasps. The hedgehog can easily destroy a hornet's nest and eat its inhabitants by ignoring their bites.

Scientists have long noticed the immunity of hedgehogs to strong poisons, including bites from insects. This antidote phenomenon is not yet known to scientists.

Be aware when you see a hedgehog in the cold months. It costs nothing to help such a fragile wee thing.

Let’s use our breath to cultivate peace from within ✌🏽💖🥰

Listen to the bird songs of Napili Park as I guide you through gentle movements. The postures offered in this practice are designed to release tension in the body and mind. Cues to invite in softness, along with juicy hip openers, will help us to relax in our space while we plant our seeds of intention.

⚠️ My mic picked up all the wind and traffic sounds along with the sounds of Keiki Fun Day across the street.
This is a great practice to find relaxation amidst the sounds of real-world noises.

Saturday will now have a yoga class at 7 am - Morning Energizing Hatha Vinyasa and an 8 am Gentle Yoga

This exquisite hand-crafted ukulele was designed by Maui’s highly skilled luthier and woodworker, Jesse Mendes. Jesse created this unique instrument out of gorgeous cuts of Kamani wood with Koa wood and Abalone embellishments. The headstock of this custom extended tenor is inlaid with a custom Abalone palm tree that extends into the beautifully embellished neck. For additional yoga comfort during your practice, please bring a water bottle, sunglasses/hat for shade (I’m not sure how much 🌞 we’ll have), and a beach towel or small blanket can be used for support while holding certain shapes.

From West Maui visitors advised to leave Lahaina and Maui;
Airlines reporting open flights
Update: 3:55 p.m., Aug. 9, 2023
Lahaina, Pülehu and Upcountry Maui Fires Combined Update No. 7, 3:50 p.m:
Due to limited resources in this time of crisis, visitors with vehicles or any means of transportation are being asked to leave Lahaina and Maui as soon as possible.
A mass bus evacuation for visitors will be staged at Sheraton Maui Resort in Kã'anapali this afternoon and take visitors directly to Kahului Airport. Five County of Maui buses, each with a capacity of 49 people, and five Polynesian Adventure Tours buses, each with a capacity of 50, will provide the transportation, with the first wave of buses expected to arrive at the Sheraton at about 4 p.m. today.

Personal vehicles can go to the airport through Kahakuloa. Rental vehicles may be left on site.

On Wedneday afternoon, the Transportation Security
Administration was reporting that seats are available on outgoing flights at Kahului Airport. Travelers need to call airlines to make reservations.

⛔️Motorists may not enter Lahaina during the active fire, but people already in Lahaina may exit via Kahakuloa.
Maui police are stationed at Ma'alaea and at Waihee to prevent entry into Lahaina until the area is secure. Only Kahakuloa residents may access Kahakuloa via Waihe'e⚠️

West Maui remains without power and has no landline or cellphone service.

Firefighting crews are continuing to battle a fire that burned multiple structures and brush in Lahaina, as well as fires in the Pülehu/Kihei and Upcountry areas.

A couple stopped me while I was walking my dogs…far away from Lahaina, completely out of gas and distraught by the road closure. Since power has been out they had no ability to check the news and the resort TOLD THEM NOTHING about the fire and state of emergency.
