We strive to do the best we can with each and every mount possible, as if it were our own and would be proud to display it in our own houses. Sometimes a piece just really turns out special though, like this elk pedistal mount. I wish this one was ours and could be displayed in the showroom forever. Unfortunately it isn't so will just have to settle for pics.

The Sand Hill Crane....don't get to do many of these being in NC KS! I'm glad too cause they are a big bird with a little body and the fluffiest light feathers to work with. Reminds me a lot of like an owl. Not very easy to do but I think I pulled it off.

Finished up these 2 beautiful pheasants and a decent wooduck. The pheasants will go on top of pedistals that the customers are making themselves. If Ican get pics from them once finished I will repost the totally finished pieces

Got back last night from the Nebraska State taxidermy competition. I took the ol "red rocket" as the judge called it and a red fox to the show. Both were entered as lifesize in the masters division. Well Ifeel like I got extremly lucky cause I pulled a 1st place blue ribbon on both mounts. The fox also won a sponsored Justin Suvvarick memorial award out of everything in the showroom picked by his widow for what she would most like to display in her house. This is the second time I won this award. "Red Rocket" won best of category master's lifesize as well as the WASCO award for most artistic mount in the showroom picked by the judges. WhenI was called for that, I was shocked completley. This is an award I have wanted to win ever since my 1st competition I entered back in 1993. My experience and opinion is that it usually goes to a fish or bird mount which is why I was suprised when I won it with a lifesize. Kansas Association of Taxidermy was well represented at the show and by looks of all of us at the table, we faired pretty well with some hardware. Hats off to NSTA for a great show, I learned a lot, met some new friends, and renewed some old friendships too. Until next time!

Different colored Black Hills, SD Merriams turkey finished up. Unusual white wings. Very gorgeous bird. Pics never due turkeys justice. They are difficult to take pics of, for me anyways. Also an unusual pose for a specklebelly as almost everyone wants them flying landing to show the belly off.

Got to do something you rarely ever get to do in ks as a taxidermist.....take pics of some mounted turkeys outside. Hardly any wind today!!!!

Turkeys are still coming in but the good news is all of last season birds are either completed or at least mounted and in the drying stage. Always feels like a mile stone reached at this point.

Also good news as I have went right into starting on waterfowl and upland game birds with the1st one mounted today. Thankful for all the work and more importantly the patience you all have as I am getting to your trophy as fast as I can. Pics of a few more turks yet and then some other birds. Will also be starting on this past season's deer here in the next week or so too.

Couple turks ready to go. An Osceola from Florida and a local bird. Both birds will eventually sit on top of pedistals that the customers are building themselves so they told me to just put on square bases that they could "drop" in the pedistal tops.

Havent posted much for turkeys this yr cause I have been so damn busy trying to get them completed. This NE merriams turned out beautiful I think.

Been working a lot on turkeys and have about 10 more to do from last season which seems like a lot yet but considering I took in around 40 of them, im getting closer to getting them done. Was able to sneak in this fox between all the turks since I only have enough drying wall space for so many turkeys at a time. Still plugging away at them though.

TIA...with shotgun turkey season getting ready to start here real soon im in need of a fovor. If you shoot a nice tom that you arent going to mount, I would appreciate some spare parts off of it or if it is in really good shape even the whole bird. If itis fresh I will skin it out quick so that you can have the meat. I also could use a few wings too. Need the whole wing including the humerous bone all attached. Even use some spare feet cause some of these birds come in with horrible nasty sores on there feet. In that case would need the whole leg drumstick included. Let me know what you get and ifyou are willing to part with any of your bird

Been working on turkeys for a couple months now. About half done with them. Yes I know season is about to open, I am running behind and moving on them as fast as I can, but these big birds just take a lot of time to do.

Here are a couple pics of 2 of the mounts I took to this yrs KAT state taxidermy competition. An ocellated turkey from the yucatan and a vervet "blueballed" monkey from africa.

Won state champion turkey and the nwtf award with the turkey.
Won the president's small mammal challenge with the monkey.

Was also elected into the KAT hall of fame.

Just got my renewal electronic federal migratory bird taxidermy permit today. Only took a month so that is extremely fast for the feds. Im good for another 5 yrs for taking in migratory birds for taxidermy purposes.
