Our boy Marc (Dude in red harness) headed home this weekend too!

Marc came in as a stray and quickly won our hearts- at the time we had our friends at Animal Farm Foundation here doing our shelter consult.

They offered to take Marc for a bit to extend his training. This dude is smart, goofy and everyone’s friend… previous adopters from aff fell in love with our goofball and that’s where his story ends with us and starts forever with them- our favorite!

Thank you to aff for loving on Marc for us and for helping him head home!

While cat side may be winning so far with adoptions… dog side gets to count this particular adoption more than once (I’m partial to this jug head, what can I say)

Tico- we looked at you and always wondered why you stayed so long here. You are gorgeous and goofy… your head is twice the size that would be appropriate for your body…and you wiggle so much we have no idea how you don’t knock yourself out.

But you rank high with our favorites and we are THRILLED to see you head out of our driveway with your own family once again.

This awesome family said goodbye a few months ago to our old alum Tattoo that they had adopted from us…

Their house was quiet once their pup crossed the 🌈…and they inquired about possibly finding another pup to lessen the quiet in their lives…

We wanted to recap last weekend and thank Whitecliff Vineyard for hosting a pawtastic Halloween event! We are always humbled being asked to join our local businesses to celebrate our pets (and your pets!) events like this show how we can all come together, have a fun time, laugh and bring awareness and support to our community pets in need that come through our shelter for a time.

The costumes were GREAT! The pups- REMARKABLE! And the company Too Knotch!

Dressing up pets as ghosts seems like an easy task… our goblins are not very cooperative at times👻

Adoption update! Annabelle is doing great. She is well adjusted. As of 2 weeks ago she weighed in at 74 lbs, she is a beautiful sweet girl and slowly learning manners. Damien loves her so much and he puts up with her antics. She is now fully house trained and lets me know when she needs to go out. We are currently working on her not chewing up everything. She has plenty of chew toys but she sometimes decides to chew on other things being that she is still a puppy she is learning. Annabelle is such a part of our family and is so well loved. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt her. She has truly brought so much love into our lives and has help us all heal from our loss.

Delight! This small mid sized mama is great on the leash, enjoys a zoomie sesh… and today…she found all the squirrels! Look at her stance! That’s a pointer foot raised up if we ever did see one. While we don’t know what she is for sure- she looks like she’d thoroughly enjoy chasing mini woodland creatures from your yard.

NBC #cleartheshelters It’s that time of the year! NBC clear the shelter event! That’s right folks put those apps in for your chance at landing a perfect second hand pet from us! All pets over 1 year old are reduced fees right now! $25 for cats and $50 for dogs. Whatttt!??? We still do the same application process- and all pets still come fully vetted ofcourse! Get your apps in you never know what’s coming through our doors 🚪.

Grab the 🍿 here’s the daily ☕️ Mitchell and Lily headed out today! That’s right folks each of these kids have been here over THREE years! Grace used to work here at HSW and was a huge asset here for our pups… she fell for our dynamic duo and so did her wife Emily! (Thanks Em 😉) Word was if they ever became home owners that they’d come back for this pair of quirky pups… CONGRATS on your new home ladies!!! And CONGRATS on your new shelter dog starter pack 😅😂. Our hearts are bursting with such a happy next chapter. Mitchell called HSW home for 1276 days! After he was caught running with a feral pack of local dogs. Lily Bean called HSW home for 1162 days after she was brought in from another rescue group after being mistreated previously. Lily needed an emotional support dog of her own- and Mitchell was it… now they’re together in a HOME. Thank you so much Emily and Grace for your dedication and love ❤️

Our Story

Since 1974, the staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Walden (HSW) have provided quality care for many orphaned pets while they wait for their forever homes. The Humane Society of Walden is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping orphaned cats and dogs. Our no kill safe haven serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Shawangunk, and Mamakating. However, if we have the space we will not turn away pets in need. Shelter staff sees that each of our animals receive the very best possible care. Our haven has dog kennels with outside access. Thanks to the staff and volunteers the dog kennels were completely renovated in the Summer of 2017. Outside kennels and an onsite dog park provide space for the dogs to get exercise. Adoptability training classes are held weekly and with volunteer participation dogs are learning basic commands. In 2016 the Walk in the Park Dog Walk Program was introduced and was an instant success. Volunteers are matched with a dog and meet offsite at Winding Hills Park where they enjoy time away from the shelter(weather permitting). HSW has several cat rooms; General Walk around, FIV+ room and FeLv+ room (Leukemia). Unless medically necessary (on a special diet, in need of daily meds etc), most cats are free roaming and all enjoy the pleasure of scratching posts, comfy beds, and toys! The General Walk Around allows access to the outside in a completely enclosed pen with many lofty perches.

The Humane Society of Walden believes that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care, respect and safe shelter. Our primary mission is to provide care while finding permanent, loving homes for the many animals that come to our door.
