After 390 DAYS homeless, Tyson was ADOPTED!!!😍🥳🥳 Tyson was one of our longest residents, waiting over a year to find his perfect person. 🤗 While he was here, he captured the hearts of the staff and volunteers with his fun personality. Tyson was a star student in his training with Best Buddy Dog Trainer at the shelter. A couple of weeks ago HSCC participated in a community walk with members of the Armed Forces, which is where Tyson and his new Dad met! He had so much fun wtih Tyson, he came back to make it official and adopt him!❤ We are over the moon excited for this new family! Congratulations! 🥳🙌❤

WHAT AN AMAZING OCTOBER!!! 🥰 82 homeless animals found loving homes!🥰 And during Pitbull Awareness month 9 bully breeds found Furever homes!!! 🤩😌🐾One of those, Sally, was pulled from Charles County Animal Care Center thru their rescue partner program! THANK YOU HSCC COMMUNITY! ❤Our special needs bonded pair Bobert and Derek were adopted! Bruiser had a blast meeting people at the Encouter Christian Center Car Show. Our domestics rats found loving homes! And we had our FIRST FURRY FALL FESTIVAL which was so much fun!!! 😍 These miracles are able to happen with YOUR SUPPORT giving monetary donations, dropping food off for our animals, walking our shelter dogs, playing with our cats, helping us clean, and giving our sweet animals loving Furever homes!!!❤🤗 It TRULY makes a difference for the animals we care about. HAPPY HOWL-A-WEEN!!!🎃 If you are more into treats than tricks, check out these amazing sweethearts! They are life long treats without the cavities! 😁
Frankie is so kind and sweet, she can sit, she is super easy to walk, she is good around other dogs, and can give both paws!

Kipper is a big teddy bear! He loves snuggling with people. He knows his commands and has been exceling in his training classes.

Cenna is the happiest girl and has a really great personality. Cenna is pleasant to everyone she meets. She walks well on leash and loves toys.

Bruiser loves belly rubs, smelling the flowers, and classical music. He knows his commands and walks well on leash.

Camryn is so lovely. She has a tranquil personality, and is a bit on the submissive side. Camryn walks gentle on the leash and enjoys stopping and enjoying nature. She knows basic commands and likes to be gently petted.

Sydney is a cupcake full of sunshine! She is simply the sweetest! Unlike her brother, Sydney is not much into exercise, she loves snuggles and treats. Bacon flavored biscuits are her favorite.

Bandit is a very smart boy! And he loves a good game of fetch! Bandit is typically a sweet natured boy. And he loves his sister Sydney.

Journey is a stunning pure bred American Bulldog. She loves trail hikes or runs. She has been around children 10 years old and up, and is house trained, crate trained, knows her commands.

Rayne is a happy 6 month old pup. She was adopted, but was returned when the elder dog in the home was not accepting of her. She is a very sweet young girl who is friendly to everyone and loves to be petted. Rayne looks to humans for guidance and really wants to please.

Each year, we publish a calendar featuring pictures of your pets through our Family Photo Contest. We vote for just over a month on which pets will make the monthly covers and reserve special dates for our furry (and not so furry) friends. This is a large fundraiser for us that helps us to continue the work that we do. Every purchase supports saving animals in our community. Our 1st FREE FAMILY & FURRY FRIENDS FUN & FOOD FALL FESTIVAL was a SUCCESS!!!🥰 THANK YOU to our amazing community for particiapting in the wonderful Fall activties. Attendees of all ages had a blast making pine cone owls & vine wreath crafts 🍂, decorating🎃pumpkins, taking pictures at our "photo booth", and making s'mores around our campfire.🔥We had the most beautiful weather for engaining in activities that were both fun and environmentally friendly. Sweetheart Bruiser has been 365 DAYS HOMELESS waiting to be adopted. He was brought in as a stray October 17th 2023. Bruiser is a 4.5-year-old Staffordshire Terrier. On medical evaluation, he was found to have a severe valvular pulmonic stenosis, a congenital heart defect. We were able to fundraise the cost for his medical bills. Bruiser was so brave and underwent live saving corrective heart surgery. Now Bruiser is ready to find his Furever best friend and a loving home. Meet Bobert! He has been overlooked by adopters due to his limited vision. This sweet boy came to us as a kitten with a severe upper respiratory and eye infection. This left him with eye scarring but that does not stop him from playing hard with her friends. Bobert has a cloudy area on his eyes which has impacted his vision. He is a gentle soul, social butterfly and likes other cats. Bobert loves chasing his friends, playing with the ball pyramid, and attacking fake mouse toys. When it's nap time you will find him snoozing with kitten friend, Derek or he will find a lap if there is a human around. Bobert loves to snuggle into the blankets to get nice and cozy. He is a little fearful of being picked up because he can't well see what's around him when not on a close surface and fear of falling where he cannot see. Bobert really needs a loving home that is calm and safe. He would love it if Derek was adopted with him as they are really attached to him. Bobert is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, dewormed and has had topical flea treatment applied. Our Story

The Humane Society of Charles County is an organization that is committed to the Choose Civility Southern Maryland Campaign.

Mission Statement It is the Mission of the Humane Society of Charles County (HSCC) to provide shelter and care for homeless, injured and neglected animals through adoption, fostering, community partnerships, education and affordable spay-neuter and vaccine services.

Vision Statement The Vision of the Humane Society of Charles County is to create a community where animals are cherished and no longer need us for protection and shelter.

History In 1975, a small group of community volunteers realized that the existing county animal shelter was not able to save those animals most in need and so conceived of an organization committed to the protection of injured, neglected and abused animals that might otherwise perish without intervention. These selfless volunteers became The Humane Society of Charles County and set up shop in a garage. Incorporated as a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization in August 1979, the Humane Society of Charles County was created based on a deep respect for all life, animal and human.

From the beginning, we have held a deep commitment to care for animals and serve the community by offering love, support and safety to the animals and respect for all. Each year, we provide compassionate shelter and care to more than 3,200 homeless animals; inspire more than 18,000 school children, nursing home residents, veterans, and community members through our humane education, Paws to Read, and pet therapy programs; provide low-to-no cost veterinary services for more than 3,000 pets in need; find homes for more than 1,600 animals; and save nearly 200 “bottle babies” from certain death through our kitten and puppy fostering programs. In 2016, we launched our Forever Friends Community Outreach program and provided over 300 community cats and their caregivers with free spay/neuter and pet food pantry services.

As an open admission shelter, the HSCC continues to pride itself on our commitment to accepting all animals brought to us regardless of their health or temperament, and we hold tight to our vision of creating a community where animals are cherished and no longer need us for protection and shelter.
