Walkertown Mill Farm Lawn & Garden would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Withers family! Walkertown has lost a good one! George Withers was a great man in so many ways! He will be dearly missed!

George Hood Withers, a cherished resident of Walkertown, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on December 25, 1929, in New Albany, Indiana, to Hood and Julia Withers. George made a significant impact on those around him throughout his life.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ms. Laura, brother James Withers, identical twin brother C. Henry Withers, and son-in-law, Steve Morris. George is lovingly remembered by his daughters Barbara Morris of Walkertown, Patricia Goodson and Glenn of Wilmington, Rebecca Lasley and Walter of Walkertown, Leisa Hillenbrand of Orlando, Florida, Julia Landon of Hendersonville, and Lori Norman of Walkertown. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Allison and Karen Morris, Jonathan and Brian Fulp (Melissa), Emily Hillenbrand (AJ Gonzales), Zachary Landon (Laura), and Grant Norman, as well as his great-grandchild Griffin Landon.

George grew up on Cedar Farm in Indiana before moving to Walkertown, where he dedicated himself to his career as a car hauler for Anchor Motor Freight/Leaseway. Known for his adventurous spirit, he never met a road he didn’t like. George enjoyed traveling with Ms. Laura, even visiting all 50 states. He also held a deep love for farming, a passion he maintained long after his retirement.

After retiring, George was a dedicated unofficial employee at Webster Brothers, helping patrons find what they were looking for. He was also a founding member of the Jim Hunt Highway Litter Club, demonstrating his commitment to community service.

George was known for his wisdom and for sharing life lessons and jokes with those around him. His presence and quick wit will be deeply missed by family and friends.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at the Pierce-Jefferson Services Kernersville Chapel on Wednesday, Aug 21st, visitation 10:30a-12p, service to follow.

If only these old buildings could talk....Oh the stories they could tell!

Many aspects of Walkertown Mill Farm Lawn & Garden are still here today including mixers and storage bins from years gone by when feed was processed right here in house. Even though we no longer process feed in house we still believe in old fashioned service and values and offer a wide range of pet and livestock feed along with mulch, gravel, sand, grass seed, lawn and garden fertilizer and lime, lawn fungicide control, flowers, vegetable plants, garden seed, w**d control products, plant care products, horse care products (dewormer, fly spray, etc), dog dewormer, dog vaccines, dog flea medication, pond care products and so much more!

Molting Season is upon us!

We now have 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝑾𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑭𝒊𝒙𝒆𝒓 manufactured by Nutrena Feeds in stock! You feed this during Molting to speed up the process. It has an 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒄 𝑴𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 in it so you can still consume any eggs produced while laying. It is a pellet form with 18% protein, 4% fat, and 6% fiber.

FYI...Molting happens around this time every year where chickens start losing their feathers and quit producing as many eggs.
