A patient of ours, Calvin the Doberman, was featured in a recent article by WSU Insider after his life-saving surgery at the Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. His journey to health and happiness began with our very own Dr. Brooke Wicks! Below you will find a short summary of the article written by Devin Rokyta, College of Veterinary Medicine . When Calvin, a lovable 8-year-old Doberman, started limping, his family thought it was just a sore paw. But thanks to the careful and compassionate care of Dr. Brooke Wicks at Associated Veterinary Medical Center, the real cause—osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer—was quickly uncovered.
Understanding the severity and complexity of Calvin’s condition, Dr. Wicks didn’t hesitate to refer his family to Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where a rare and highly specialized surgery removed the tumor while saving Calvin’s leg and preserving his quality of life.
Thanks to Dr. Wicks' early diagnosis, guidance, and unwavering support, Calvin was given a fighting chance—and he’s now over 9 years old, cancer-free, and living his best life! ❤️💪
At AVMC, our team is deeply committed to catching illness early, building lasting relationships, and being the voice your pet needs in critical moments. Dr. Wicks and the AVMC family are honored to have played a part in Calvin’s incredible story.
