On day we're all lounging in our sweats, feeling thankful for the health and happiness of the people and pets we love, it would mean so much if you could help my friend Kayla and her disabled pup Rylan. 🤍

I'm looking for someone who is eager to learn and likes to stay busy even when presented with what some people consider "down time." We start at $14/hour and increase to $15/hour after a 3 month review!

Our Animal Caretakers play a vital role at the Humane Society of Walden. We are seeking dependable, hard-working animal lovers for employment.

Daily Functions + Responsibilities

• Provide a healthy, safe, clean, and pleasant environment and facilities to the animals in our care and the public who comes through our doors

• Thorough daily cleanings of dog and cat kennels, bedding, dishes, floors, and more

• Spot clean animal and public shelter areas throughout the day

• Do laundry, wash dishes, clean, empty trash cans, and mop floors

• Organize incoming donations of food, linens, and more

• Stock and organize shelter supplies

• Feed shelter animals, including those with special diets

• Medicate animals as directed by Feline and Canine Programs Coordinators

• Monitor the physical and mental health of the animals on an ongoing basis and immediately report concerns to the Shelter Manager and Program Coordinators

• Assess animal temperaments to facilitate appropriate placement

• Show prospective adopters around and introduce them to available animals

• Help match pets with people by interacting with and getting to know the animals in our care with individuals hoping to adopt in order to make the best possible match

• Socialize and groom animals as needed

• Prioritize giving dogs critical outdoor time with you in the play yards during the day

• Provide transportation for animals to and from vet appointments and adoption events

• Assist Shelter Manager and Program Coordinators with paperwork, including adoption and foster parent applications, intake forms, and health records

• Work cooperatively with other staff members to ensure other tasks and functions are performed as needed, included helping out at special events

Specific Job Skills

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

• Ability to listen to and learn from senior staff, particularly the Program Coordinators who train incoming Animal Caretakers and supervise daily work as well as the Shelter Manager who oversees the entire shelter

• Initiative to work with minimal supervision and direction if necessary

• Affection for animals and concern for their welfare

• Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown dispositions, medical concerns, and behavior issues

• Familiarity with animals, knowledge of animal behavior, or experience working or volunteering with animal welfare organizations are a plus

• Must be available to work 1 weekend day a week

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and/or stand on your feet for extended periods throughout the workday

• Working conditions include working in varying weather conditions

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and use your arms, legs, and hands to hear, see, move, and lift animals and goods throughout the workday

• Availability to work at least one weekend day
