A busy weekend of group classes and walkabouts! Remember the little stuff adds up - even 5 min a day of training will help build new habits, and can make a big difference! Be gentle with yourself, too - no one is perfect, and our dogs don't expect us to be 🐾❤️

As we were setting up for class, there was a dog in the bath station who was very vocal. This kind of environment can create stress for anyone in earshot. When we first arrived, the 9 Mon old golden and foster terrier mix were concerned about the vocalizations. Once we did some focus work and had some treats, they were able to ignore the stimuli. This is a clip of relativity low intensity from our pal in the bath, after the core crew had relaxed. Our busy cities, unfortunately, aren't simple for our animals to navigate, so it's important we help guide them to ensure they remain balanced and comfortable.

Goose (6yo) is in a stand stay and origami (8mon) is in a sit stay. Asking for a down or sit can make the "stay" a bit easier. The Klimb platforms also give them a bit more structure to make the "stay" easier (and help to keep the puppy from clobbering her buddy). A younger dog seeing the older dog model behavior (staying) makes it easier for her to stay. If we start with achievable goals and increase the challenges, we can teach our pups the goal while ensuring they're enjoying training - no one likes being wrong all the time! If we skip steps, we can accidentally frustrate our dogs and make training less fun.

The next wave of "scary things" for puppy class! Exposing your pup to novelty in a controlled way can build confidence and resilience. We want our dogs to be well adjusted urban and suburban companions, so it's important to help them to understand "weird human stuff" just means "snacks".
