Did you know that some of the prettiest plants in your home could be dangerous for your pets?

Yep, certain popular houseplants can be toxic for our dogs and cats, who loooove to explore the world with their mouths.

When we say “toxic,” we’re talking about plants that can cause anything from a little tummy upset to serious health issues.

Did any of the plants on this list surprise you?

Taking your cat to the vet doesn’t have to be stressful! At MVH we take extra steps to help cats feel safe, like:

→ Offering a calm waiting area with dividers
→ Using gentle handling techniques
→ Giving them time to explore the exam room at their own pace
→ Managing noise for a peaceful environment
→ Prescribing calming meds if they need a little extra support
→ Rescheduling if your cat is too anxious for an exam that day

So cool! This is Merlin who was featured in USA today about his success with Synovetin that he received at Muller for his painful arthritis.

Check it out!

Dogs get arthritis for different reasons than humans, and the pain threatens the nature of our relationship with our pets.

Forrest needed a tooth pulled on Monday, and we used the Assisi Loop in advance to get ahead of his pain.

The Assisi Loop uses pulsed electromagnetic fields (tPEMF) to activate the body’s natural anti-inflammatory process, speeding up healing and reducing discomfort. It’s FDA-cleared, evidence-based, and with zero side effects 😊

We love using the Loop for post-surgery care, arthritis, wound healing, and more. The best part is that this non-invasive therapy can be done at home!

Stop by our office to learn more or to grab one for yourself (not a sponsored post - we just love this product!)

Meet Dr. Iwata! 👋

Dr. Jill Iwata was born and raised in nearby Benicia, where she was the youngest of three girls. Following in the footsteps of her two older sisters, Jill graduated from UC Davis in 1999 with a degree in Animal Science. While an undergraduate, Jill worked at a local veterinary hospital which solidified her decision to become a veterinarian. Jill then attended the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2003.

While at UC Davis, Jill was active in many clubs, including Phi Zeta – the Veterinary Medicine Honor Society and the Orphan Kitten Project.

In her free time, Jill enjoys relaxing with her husband and sons, and loves to bake goodies for the staff at Muller. She has a cat, Lottie, and a miniature poodle mix named Murray, whom she co-owns with her mother.

Our final Ofrenda display 💚

We are deeply touched by everyone who brought photos and trinkets to honor their beloved pets who have passed. Looking at this display, we can see that grief is universal, and the bond we share with animals is undeniably special. It reminds us how their lives, though often too short, leave a lasting impact.

Thank you for allowing us to honor them in this way. We look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come.

Cats don't always show signs of illness. Regular vet check-ups are important to make sure they're happy and healthy!

How often you should bring your cat in depends on their age and other health conditions, but in general:

🐱 Kittens: Every few weeks for the first 6 months
🐱 Adults: Yearly (and as needed)
🐱 Seniors: 2x a year (and as needed)

If you notice sudden changes in behavior (appetite, vocalizing, litter box use, hiding, etc.), bring them in sooner.

We’re here to help! Call today to book an appointment.

If your pet is a past or current patient, you’ve probably had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Troy. But do you know how she got started?

Dr. Troy was raised on a small farm in Contra Costa County surrounded by all kinds of animals. She received her Bachelor's of Science from UC Davis and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from University of Wisconsin. Dr. Troy began working at MVH as part of the nursing staff before veterinary school and later returned as an Associate Veterinarian.

In 1999, Dr. Troy purchased the practice. Continuing education has always been a priority for her, and she has traveled to many conferences on internal medicine, surgery, physical medicine, and rehabilitation throughout the country. She is among only 62 Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioners (CVPPs) in the U.S.

Her favorite part of her job? The variety and the connections she makes with all kinds of pets and people. 💚

Outside of work, Dr. Troy prefers to be outdoors with her husband John and their dogs Marilyn and Verde.

Keeping track of all the vaccines your puppy or dog needs can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help you prioritize the most important ones.

In California, dogs over 4 months old are required by law to be vaccinated for rabies. After the first shot, they’ll need a booster every 1-3 years.

Rabies vaccines are quick and painless, especially when peanut butter bribes are involved 😋

While not mandated by law for cats, we still strongly recommend the rabies vaccine to keep them safe and healthy.

Call us today to schedule your pet’s rabies vaccination! (925) 934-8042

P.S. This is Jerry, a working TSA K9. He makes sure to get his rabies vaccine on time, every time. 😉

Today is the start of National Vet Tech Week! 💚

Muller is lucky to have an incredible team of veterinary technicians who provide impeccable and quality care to every animal that comes through our doors.

Our vet techs are some of the hardest working people at the hospital, and they are BUSY - administering medications, assisting in life-saving surgeries, cleaning wounds, running lab tests, updating records, and so much more.

We also want to shout out our hard-working customer representative team. Not only do they handle our emails and telephones in a timely manner, but they also ensure our doctors have all of the records from outside hospitals needed for each visit, room all patients, maintain lobby and exams room cleanliness, and greet every client at the front desk with a smile.

We are extremely lucky to have such a dedicated, companionate and positive team! Thank you for all that you do!
