I spy HYH High School Dressage rider Addison Stevens! Way to represent. Reason # 1,576,462 why we love IEA - Interscholastic Equestrian Association. The leadership opportunities available to the kids help them develop in two well rounded equestrians.

IEA had a BLAST at Breyerfest 2024 in Lexington, KY this week! It is amazing to see THOUSANDS of people come from all over the US to share their love of horses, real and plastic. Yes, it is HOT. Yes, it is FUN. And we saw SO MANY IEA members and alumni again this year.

Shout out to IEA Riders from Hold Your Horses IEA Team in Asheville, OH who were part of the daily Breyerfest presentations showcasing Ohio Standardbreds and Friends. Riders, Emily Stevens, Addison Stevens, Makenzie Gulick, and Kenzie Hatfield did a great job representing their breed association and highlighting the versatility of off-track horses. It was also great to hear the announcer talk about their IEA accomplishments.

Our IEA table was hopping all day long as young equestrians and would-be equestrians learned more about team riding, the benefits of being on an IEA team, and affordable showing and leadership opportunities. We ran into handfuls of 1st and 2nd year IEA riders who gushed about their teams and are looking forward to this new season.

Congrats to the Kentucky Horse Park, Breyer Model Horses and Breyerfest for putting on another excellent event. Check out Breyer Facebook and Instagram pages for loads of fun photos of this event.

Thank you also to our friends at Young Rider magazine for distributing magazines with our info on the back cover.

Now....to sit in the air-conditioning awhile.....Whew!

Thank you IEA - Interscholastic Equestrian Association for this awesome opportunity for our youth! Interested in joining our team? Stay tuned for information on our summer signup meeting for the 24/25 season.

We awarded A LOT of $$$ yesterday during the IEA Western National Finals Individual competition day. Each year, IEA awards more than $25,000 in FOUNDERS CASH awards to the highest placing and 2nd highest placing senior rider in every class. (In addition to the tens of thousands of collegiate scholarships awarded by various colleges.)

Congratulations to all the seniors who placed yesterday - including Emily Stevens (Hold Your Horses - R5S) pictured here who was the highest placing Senior in the JV Beginner Walk/Jog division. With only one season of western riding under her belt, Emily piloted YUKON - provided by North Central Texas College - to a 4th place finish in the nation!

A quick bit of math may help save your horse (and you) from heat stress/exhaustion/stroke on that Sunday ride. High temperatures and/or relative humidity can negatively affect how horses can naturally keep cool. 😎 From the chart below, horses will be in much more danger of overheating if riding at noon today in Louisiana (85 degrees + 71% relative humidity) than in Tucson, AZ (96 + 10% RH). And, yes… it is a ‘dry heat’ 🌞🌵🏜️
