KENJI (4mo GSD) had his final session at a park. Ismael and Julie have done a spectacular job with Kenji. He already knew a lot of commands before we even started training together. All we had to do on those commands was to fine-tune them and help Ismael and Julie strengthen their leadership skills. The new commands that we introduced were easily learned. We finished the course by doing some socialization at a park. Meeting people and other dogs was new to all of them, so a lot of pointers and limited interactions were done. Ismael and Julie will undoubtedly continue working with Kenji and future training is on the horizon. Possibly CGC training!!

WINNIE (3mo Poodle mix) began her Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Thursday. Emily and Cameron adopted her at 7 weeks old. She has, so far, been a pretty good puppy. They have been working on potty training, crate training, "sit", "come", and teaching her her name. They are now ready to have some formal training; not only for her but for themselves, since she is their first dog. We began with "Dogs 101". We then worked on name recognition, "come"/targeting, and "sit". She did very well. Eager and ready to learn. So were Emily and Cameron. :-)

PENNY (7mo Standard Poodle) completed her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Edward, Danille, and their son have been working with Penny over the past month, helping her to learn all of her commands. They (she) have done great. We finished the course with "sit/stay", "heel", "down" from a standing position, "left and right shake", and "roll over". We also worked on eliminating door-dashing out the front door. She was a excellent student, always willing and eager to learn her new lessons!

PEPPER (3.5mo GSD/Belgian Malinois) had his 3rd session yesterday. He is doing great on all previously taught commands, so we added several new ones. They were "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it". We also added the hand signal to "down" (pictured). We finished by beginning to get him used to the SPORN non-pull harness and leash so that when he gets his final vaccines and rabies shot, he will be ready to walk in the new big, wide, new world!

KODA (4mo Mini Golden Doodle) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Ryan and Kurstein did a mighty fine job training him. They were always one step ahead of me on teaching Koda new commands. So some of them we just had to tweak a bit. Any new ones were met with excitement and eagerness to learn; both from themselves and Koda! They have got themselves a good one there!

Honey Mae (4mo Pomeranian) had her 3rd session yesterday. Teresa had a hard week and was honest enough to say that she didn't work with Honey as much as she should have and that she was having difficulty staying focused and consistent. So this session was just a refresher of "Dogs 101". We discussed what was working and what wasn't. It got Teresa back on track and she was confident that the coming week would bring better results for herself, thus better results for Honey Mae. It can be difficult sometimes to put dog training as a priority; it happens when life gets in the way. But the important thing is that it gets back on track. :-)

KENJI (4mo GSD) had his 3rd session on Wednesday. He is doing exceptionally well, mostly due to Ismael's and Julie's consistency and daily reinforcements. They also push the envelope a bit and each week have some new behavior they have been working on, in addition to the ones scheduled for the session. I love it!! We worked on "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it". I made a video of "drop it" but couldn't get it to post. We also worked on "heel".

NOVA (7mo Pug) had a follow up session to address loose walking and socialization. Lila and Ivan were happy with her retention of all the commands that she learned 4 months ago but were having difficulty walking he. After trying harnesses, we decided to try a small prong collar. It made the world of difference for her, as well as Lilia and Ivan. They agreed to buy one and will call if they additional help. It was nice to see the 3 of them again!

MOLLY (3.5mo Boxer) had her 3rd session on Wednesday. Glenda is happy with her progress and sees much improvement. She has learned all of the previously taught commands, and of course, still needs reinforcement on a daily basis. We added several new commands this week. They were "down" with the hand signal, "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it". We also introduced the SPORN non-pull harness, which she wanted nothing to do with. :-) But Glenda will continue introducing it a little each day until she feels comfortable with it.

PENNY (6mo Standard Poodle) had her 2nd session on Wednesday. Edward has been working with her and she is being much more consistent with her responses. All commands that were taught last week are fine. So we introduced "down", "focus" (pictured), "off/on", discussed techniques to eliminate jumping. We then introduced her to the SPORN> non-pull harness and began loose leash walking techniques. Edward said the harness made a huge difference in the walking experience. Great!

HERMIONE (4mo Giant Schnauzer) had her 3rd session on Wednesday. All previously taught commands are great. So, we added several new ones. They were "stay", "wait", "down" with the hand signal, and "sit/stay". They were having major issues getting Hermione into the car and wanted extra help with that. She would have to be coerced over to the car, her front paws had to be lifted into the car, and then would only get in if someone lifted and pushed her in. Not anymore! With some treats, patience, and a lot of coaxing, she now will just jump in on her own. Good job Hermione!!

PEPPER (3mo GSD/Belgian Malinois) began his Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Tuesday. Ken and his family acquired Pepper from a friend of a friend when he was just 6-7 weeks old. They have been working on potty training and "sit". He is a very active puppy and the family wants him to get trained enough so that he can come into the house more often. Only Ken was present for the session, and since Pepper is their first puppy in a long time, we began with "Dogs 101". We then perfect "sit", introduced name recognition, and "come"/targeting. We also discussed techniques to eliminate jumping, mouthing, and chewing on unwanted objects. "Time outs" were also introduced. Pepper actually did very well. He was very receptive to the training and Ken was happy with what he/they had learned. He will go over everything with the rest of the family.

KODA (3mo Mini Golden Doodle) had his 2nd session on Tuesday. Ryan and Kurstein worked consistently with him over the past week. He now responds to his name, knows "sit", and comes when called more regularly. So it was time to add a few more commands to his routine. They were "down", "focus" (pictured), "off/on", and we introduced the SPORN non-pull harness, while beginning loose leash walking techniques. We also discussed eliminating jumping.

FRIDA (4.5mo Dachshund) had her 2nd session yesterday. Tristin and Justin have been working diligently with Frida on all previously taught commands. She was ready to have new ones introduced. They were "down" (Tristin is not pushing her down, she is petting as a positive reinforcement), "focus", "off/on", and we discussed techniques to eliminate jumping. We also began to get her used to the SPORN non-pull harness. She is doing great!

KENJI (3mo GSD) had his 2nd session yesterday. Ismael and Julie have been training Kenji since they got him at 10 weeks. So this training is mostly just fine-tuning the commands and strengthening their leadership skills. We concentrated on "down", "focus", "off/on", and jumping. We also worked a bit on loose leash walking and "heel" (pictured). Kenji is ahead of schedule on just about everything. Good job to all.

HERMIONE (had her 2nd session on Wednesday. Crystal, Johnny, and their two young girls are taking Hermione's training seriously. She is "spot on" on each previously taught command. So she was definitely ready for the new ones. We worked on "down" by adding the hand signal, we taught her "focus", "off/on", discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and mouthing. We then introduced her to the SPORN non-pull harness and a little loose leash walking. She is doing great, thanks to the family for reinforcing properly.

PENNY (6mo Standard Poodle) began her Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Wednesday. Edward, Danille, and their 8 year old son adopted her 4 weeks ago. They just about have her potty trained and knows "sit" very weel. They've worked on a few other commands but are ready for the next step - professional training for her and themselves. Only Edward was available for the session but he will go over everything with the other family members. We began with "Dogs 101", which Edward found very helpful. We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and fine-tuned "sit". Penny was very eager and happy during her first session.

MOLLY (10wk Boxer) had her 2nd session on Wednesday. Glenda has been doing a great job of reinforcing the commands they learned last week. So we introduced several new ones. They were "down" (pictured), "focus", "off/on", we discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and mouthing. We also introduced her to the SPORN non-pull harness and "time outs". She is doing wonderfully!

HERMIONE (4mo Giant Schnauzer) began his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Crystal, Johnny and their 2 young daughters have only had Hermione for a few weeks, and she is settling in nicely. They have been working on "sit", "stay", "wait", "down", crate and potty training. Everyone was in attendance for this session, which is very important. We began with "Dogs 101" before introducing name recognition, "come"/targeting, and adding the hand signal to "sit". We also discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and mouthing, as Hermione loves to go after Rhiley's (8yo) feet and long hair! It was agreat session for the entire family.

KENJI (3mo GSD) began his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Ismael and Julie were lucky to get him, through a re-homing situation, and he was lucky that they were the ones! I was totally impressed with the amount of work that Ismael has already put into training Kenji. He has already taught him most of what we will be covering over the next 4 weeks, so most of what I will be doing is just fine-tuning what Kenji already knows. I will also be giving Ismael and Julie valuable tools and knowledge to help the training process go smoother and make them stronger Pack Leaders. We started with "Dogs 101". We then worked on name recognition, "come"/targeting, and added the hand signal to "sit". I sure there will be a few commands that will be new to all of them. :-) Kenji is a very happy puppy!

FRIDA (4.5mo Dachshund) began her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Tristin, Justin, and their 8 year old daughter, Courtney adopted her when she was 7.5 weeks old. They have been working on "sit", "wait", her name, crate and potty training. They now want to move on to more detailed training for her as well as for themselves. It was just Tristin at the session, but Courtney joined us just at the end. We began with "Dogs 101". We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and added the had signal to "sit". They also have a 9 year old Dachshund named Jeffrey, so they are familiar with the breed. She is a sweetie!

LOKI (15mo Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) had his 3rd session yesterday. He is doing well on all previously taught commands and is fitting nicely into the existing pack (Apollo, Rosie, Cooper, and Mia). We worked on "down" from a standing position, "sit/stay", "heel" (pictured), and revisited "drop it". Then we just spent some time reviewing previously taught commands. He is becoming a "gentle giant" as he receives the great leadership from Trish and Reid.

MOLLY (9wk Boxer) began her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Glenda is an ex-coworker of mine (from the early 70's) and reached out to me for Molly's training. She unfortunately lost her beloved 12 year old Boxer a few months ago and did not intend to get another dog right away but was presented with the idea of this little girl. How could she say "no" to this sweetie. Getting a puppy after 12 years can be a little overwhelming, for sure, so she wanted a little help. We began with "Dogs 101", which was a great refresher for Glenda, before introducing name recognition, "come"/targeting, and fine-tuned "sit" by adding the hand signal. She is working on potty training and doing a great job with that. We discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and mouthing. It was a good start for both of them.

HONEY MAE (3mo Pomeranian) had her 2nd session on Monday. Teresa's and Honey's first week of training together went well. She is responding to her name, knows "come", and does well with sitting. She was ready for all the new commands, so we began. They were "down", "focus", "off/on", and we added the hand signal to "sit". We then discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and nipping. Teresa said she is a pretty good walker and loves coming to the office with her!

OREO (6mo French Bulldog) had her 2nd session on Monday. Christopher and May were consistent with reinforcement during the past week, so we were ready and able to proceed to her 2nd session. We introduced "down", "focus", "off/on", discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and mouthing. We then started to work on loose leash walking. She did great!

KODA (3mo Mini Golden Doodle) began his Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Monday. Ryan and Kurstein adopted him when he was 10 weeks old. They have been working on a few commands, along with potty training and crate training. So far, so good. They now want to begin professional training, not only for Koda, but for themselves. They want to make sure they are giving Koda the best chances to become a wonderful, well-behaved companion. We began with "Dogs 101". We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and fine-tuned "sit" by adding the hand signal. He did great - very attentive and eager to learn.

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY, RIVER! It has been a challenging year+ for the both of us, but the efforts are finally paying off. We have developed trust, respect, pack understanding, and definitely love for one another. We've learned so much from each other; what our strengths are, what our weaknesses are. We have been good for each other. I love you and pray for another 7 years with you.

SNICKERS (7mo Lab/Pit mix) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course today. This was a pretty straight-forward course for Snickers since Kim had already "pre-trained" him. So, we basically fine-tuned what he already knew, and added everything that he didn't. We fine-tuned Kim's techniques to make her a stronger Pack Leader. She is going to work with Snickers on her own for a while, and then we will be advancing to CGC training....so that Snickers can become a therapy dog! Looking forward to working with them both again real soon.

LOKI (14mo Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) had his 2nd session on Wednesday. Since Reid and Trish went through this course with 4 of their other dogs, we are basically just going through all the commands to refresh their memories on how to teach them. Of course, Loki is getting the benefits. They are also reinforcing the commands with the other 4 dogs. It's a win-win situation. We worked on "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it". We then introduced the prong collar for walking, as Loki is extremely strong when he does pull. It worked like a charm. Now he'll get a lot more walks!
