ICE (1yr White Swiss Shepherd) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Wednesday. He has made great strides in learning all his commands, being more obedient, and walking better on the leash. His confidence has improved greatly and he is a very happy guy! Mario and Lydia have also strengthened their leadership skills and will continue working on that. The three of them have built a stronger realationship; knowing who is Pack Leader and who is follower. Great job by all three!

ZERO (1yr Husky mix) & CHARLIE (10mo Golden Doodle) completed their Basic Obedience & Behavior Modification Course yesterday. They were both a bit rowdy and unstructured, so this course was very much needed. Not only for the two of them but for Amands and Jay, who were at wits end trying to control them. Zero had had some training but it all seemed to go out the window when Charlie arrived. Zero had been staying outside 95% of the time, only in the house for sleeping because the two of them were totally out of control together (playing too rough and not listening). That is changing! They both have learned all commands, Amanda and Jay have become stronger Pack Leaders, and their "together" sessions are more structured and limited to 15-20 minutes at this time. Zero comes in the house more often and they are learning "place/stay". Amanda and Jay are very happy with what they have learned and are please Zero and Charlie are more controllable A win-win!.

ICE (1yr White Swiss Shepherd) had his 3rd session on Wednesday. He has improved substancily over the past 2 weeks. A big contribution to that is that Mario and Lydia have improvied their leadership skills and are continuing to work on that daily. Ice needs strong leadership because he is smart and will try to get away with anything he can. Not so much anymore! We added some more commands to help keep Ice busy and mentally stimulated (he gets plenty of physical exercise...4-6 miles a day). We introduced "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it" (pictured). We also added the hand signal to "down". He was very much more comfortable with me this week as well. He's a good boy!

CHARLIE (9mo Golden Doodle) and ZERO (1yr Husky mix) had their 3rd session on Tuesday. They are both making great progress, not only in learning commands but learning to listen to Amanda and Jay better. They are also getting more comfortable playing with each other (not so rough). This is due to the fact that they are now being able to be together more often and Zero is now able to come into the home on a structured and limited time now. They both learned several new and important commands. They were "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it". We also added the hand signal to "down". The session finished up with introducing prong collars, to which Amanda and Jay were forever grateful. The walk was so much better!!

BELLA (2yr Pit Mix) completed her Basic Obedience and Behavior Modification Course today. There were really no major behavioral issues, just the common jumping, pulling on the leash, and not knowing any commands. So, she has learned every command and was a happy girl every time we had a session. Miriam has learned as well; how to be a stronger pack leader, and how to praise or correct when necessary. They are a very happy team together and are both more confident now that they have gone through this course. I see some future training together.....:-)

ICE (1yr White Swiss Shepherd) had his 2nd session yesterday. Mario and Lydia followed their homework assignment last week and have already seen improvement! He is a bit more responsive to his name now and knows "come" and "sit". We had also added the hand signal to sit last week. His jumping has subsided a bit as well. He was a little growly with me again this week in the beginning. I worked with Mario and Lydia, strengthening their leadership skills. They have to be in charge and let him know they don't need his protection with me there. By the end of the session he was fine. We added several new commands. They were "down" with the hand signal, "focus", "off/on", and worked on the biggest issue they are having with him...pulling on the leash. He is a very strong boy and both of them are having trouble holding him back. The harness is not working so we introduced the prong/pinch collar and there was an immediate understanding as to how he was to walk. Look at that smile!

ZERO (1yr Husky mix) and CHARLIE (9mo Golden Doodle) had their 2nd session yesterday. They have both learned to respond to their names, "come", and "sit" and are also learning to play a little less rough because Amanda and Jay are being more in control of the play sessions. We introduced "down", "focus", "off/on", and discussed more techniques to eliminate jumping, especially from Zero, who is mostly outside for now. We introduced the prong collar to both dogs as they are both very strong pullers. They were both so much better walkers with these tools. At the end of the session we let them both play together so that Amanda and Jay could work on determining what was ok and what wasn't. They did much better than last week!

My friend Shyreen and I attended a 3-day seminar in Poway this past weekend. It was given by Sean O'Shay (www.thegooddogway.com) an expert on prong collar and e-collar work. I felt I needed more help and tools that would be appropriate for River's continued development, being a highly reactive/aggressive dog. BTW my first highly reactive dog!! As known, I am a Positive Reinforcement trainer and do not work with highly reactive/aggressive dogs. And that will continue to be my posture. However, everyone needs to understand that not all dogs need the same kind of training. Dogs like River need a more "convincing" method to keep them and others they come into contact with, safe. With all that being said, River was one of the dogs that Sean worked with during the seminar and the work he did with her was amazing. She was very receptive to both the prong and e-collar and I will continue working with her using the methods Sean taught us. Sean and his wife, Marta, are amazing people and their passion for dogs, their owners, and trainers is beyond expectations!! Love them!!

I will post some of River's work when I get the videos.

BELLA (2yr Pit Bull mix) had her 3rd session on Thursday. Such a sweet little girl. Always willing and eager to learn. We introduced "stay" (pictured), "wait", "leave it/take it", and the hand signal for "down". Easy pessy for this little girl. Walking is not a problem at all for her and Miriam is happy about that.

JETPACK (5mo Puggle) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Wednesday. Patrick has done an amazing job working with Jet, even starting training before I came along. So this was a pretty easy and fun training course. Jetpack loved learning and would get so happy with himself every time he accomplished a new command. I will miss this little guy.

ICE (1yr Berger Blanc Suisse "White Swiss Shepherd") began his Basic Obedience and Behavior Modification Course on Wednesday. Mario and Lydia just got him 2 weeks ago. He is a sweetheart but very much needs to learn all basic commands, how not to jump, how to stop mouthing, and mostly how to walk without pulling on the leash. We began with "Dogs 101". We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and added the hand signal to "sit". He is a big jumper, so we worked on eliminating that right off. He was very respective to the training and both Mario and Lydia are more than eager to do the work!

CHARLIE (9mo Golden Doodle) and ZERO (1yr Husky) began their Basic Obedience and Behavior Modification Course on Tuesday. Both of these dogs came into Amanda's and Jay's lives about 6 months ago. Charlie is a little calmer than Zero, so for now Zero is mostly outside. Our objective is to get them both calm and trained enough so that they can all live happily ever after in the house and/or yard. We began with "Dogs 101". We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and added the hand signal to "sit". We worked them together this time because I needed to see how they interact together, but their homework assignments will need to be worked individually. They are a "hot mess" when together. Not is a bad way, just an unruly and rambunctious way. Their play needs to be dialed down quite a bit. But they obviously love each other. Amanda and Jay will need to work on their leadership skills as well....be more in charge! They are both ready for the challenge.

BELLA (2yr Pit Bull mix) had her 2nd session yesterday. Miriam says she is making great progress already. Now that she responds to her name more regularly, knows "come", and "sit", we added several new commands. They were "down" (pictured), "focus", "off/on", we discussed techniques to eliminate jumping and evaluated the new back yard. She has already jumped the low gate, so we discussed some changes that need to be made. She is a fast learner and loves having her BF, Lilly, with her.

BUBBLES (1.5yr Great Dane/Mastiff mix) completed her Basic Obedience and Behavior Modification Course yesterday. Dean rescued her about 7 months ago. She came with a very insecure personality; afraid of everyone and everything. Dean has worked tirelessly with her, and she has overcome a bit of that insecurity, especially with him. Training her has built her confidence as well as strengthened Dean's Pack Leader skills. Now that she knows all the commands, and he knows how to address different situations, she is making consistent headway. They are a "work-in-progress" team and are their way to a stronger and better connection. Great job to both!

WATSON (2yr Australian Cattle Dog) had his 3rd session on Wednesday. Kathy and Chuck have been diligently working with Watson ever since they rescued him a little over a month ago. He is a fast learner and is always eager for his sessions. So, on Wednesday we added several new commands to his list. They were "stay", Wait", "leave it/take it", and "drop it" (pictured, his favorite). We also added the hand signal to "sit". He is doing great!

BUBBLES (1.5yr Great Dane Mastiff) had her 3rd session yesterday. Dean has been working with her, expressly on building her confidence. He rescued her 6 months ago and has gasined her confidence but she is still very cautious of other people. She is warming up to me but not entirerly yet. We introduced "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it", and tried "drop it", but she has no desire to chase balls or play with toys. We will have to use an alternate reward (treats). We also decided to introduced her to a prong collar since when she pulls, she is too strong for Dean. She adapted to it perfectly and Dean feels much more confident on walks. She only pulls for squirrels and rabbits, BTW.

BELLA (2yr Pit Bull mix) began her Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Miriam rescued Bella when she was 8 weeks old but has never given her proferssional training. Since Miriam just moved into a new home and things have settled down for her, she is ready to devote the time and effort into giving Bella the training she needs. There are a few undesired behaviors that need attention (nothing major) so those will be addressed along with the basic obedience commands. We began with "Dogs 101". We then introduced name recognition, "come"/targeting, and added the hand signal to "sit". Bella is a very affectionate and smart girl. She caught on to the new commands with ease. She is a very happy dog, as her smiles prove it!

JETPACK (4mo Puggle) had his 3rd session on Wednesday. Patrick is doing amazing work with Jetpack. He has pretty much worked on all commands before I even start. So, I'm basically just fine-tuning each command and helping to strengthen Patrick's leadership skills. We worked on "stay", "wait", "leave it/take it" (pictured), and "drop it". He did great on all. They both did!
