LUKA (5mo Golden Doodle) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course on Monday. Ashwin and his family made Luka part of their family when he was 8 weeks old. Ashwin and his sister began working with Luka and did as much as they could before calling me. We fine-tuned the commands that they had been working on, as well as taught Luka all the other commands that he didn't know. We established rules, boundries, and structure for Luka to follow. Along with the commands, we worked on loose leash walking, eliminating jumping, and mouthing. We built strong leadership skills for Ashwin and his sister. Luka is a great dog, and with proper reinforcement and consistency, he will only get better! Good job by all.

MOOSE (1yr Whippet mix) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Kaili rescued Moose 10 months ago. He was a very insecure dog outside of his condo. It also took him time to feel comfortable when visitors came. He was afraid to walk and would only do so to go to the potty area and then would fearfully pull back home. His only command was "sit". Since he was/is Kaili's first dog, she was at a loss of what to do. Over the past four weeks/sessions Moose has learned all commands, Kaili has built her leadership skills, and Moose has become a little more confident in himself, as well as Kaili. Kaili will continue to work on her leadership skills and will continue with "patience, consistency, positive reinforcement, and follow through".

BRUNO (3yr Lab) completed his Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Lucy and Carlos brought Bruno into their family when he was 8 weeks old. They never did any formal training but have been able to teach him to the best of their ability. Lucy just wanted to perfect all of the commands and teach him what he didn't know. She also wanted to work on leash walking. The majority of time, he walked well but did pull when other dogs were around, which was a problem because he is about 80-90 pounds! The past 3 weeks have afforded us the opportunity to fine-tune all commands that he already knew and to teach him all that he didn't. Lucy was also able to strengthen her leadership skills (which were already pretty good). They are both happy with what they learned.

LUCKY (5yr MaltiPoo) completed his Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Beverly has had Lucky since he was 8 weeks old. They went through puppy training at PetSmart at an early age but he has since developed a couple of undesired behaviors. Barking at people who pass by their apartment and pulling on the leash are the main ones. We began with reintroducing all of the basic commands and worked on building Beverly's leadership skills. After reestablishing who was Pack Leader and who was Follower, things began to fall into line. Lucky's barking at people walking by and walking on the leash have greatly improved. Lucky went from a timid, unstructured pup to a noticeably happy, affectionate, carefree pup. Beverly is a happy camper (Pack Leader) as well!

OATCHI (6mo GSD) completed her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Because Annie had done so much research on dog training on-line, she had already been working with Oatchi before calling me. So, all I really had to do was help Annie strengthen her leadership skills and tweak the commands she had already taught Oatchi. Then of course I taught them both all the rest of the commands that they hadn't worked on. Annie had done all the previous training on her own, but we were able to convince her parents of the importance of their participation. Her mom earned a spot in the graduation picture.🥰

BAYLEAF (3yr mini Poodle) completed her Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Bayleaf had never had any formal type of training, just whatever Mimil and friend Jelly were able to teach her. Sit and stay were pretty much it. Her biggest issue was her reaction to visitors. She would bark out of control, lunge, and try to bite any unknown humans. Most of my visits were met with those reactions so I pretty much had to "show" Mimil and Jelly so that they could work with her when I was gone. She actually did quite well, learning all the basic obedience commands. Surprisingly, she let me work with her on the 2nd and final session. We did, during the last session, introduce the bark collar. This worked amazingly well, and all we used was the "tone" option. (Bark collars have 3 options; tone, vibrate, and stimulate.) I was very pleased that after the initial barking when I entered yesterday, and the use of the bark collar, Bayleaf was friendly with me and allowed me to work with her! Mimil and Jelly will continue to positively reinforce all the learned commands and will use the bark collar whenever invited guests visit. There will be additional training down the line.

MAISIE (5mo Mini BerneDoodle) completed her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. This little girl was such a fast learner.
Showing her just a few times and she had it! She has learned every
command, both verbally and by hand signals. Wendy and Mark have become such great Pack Leaders and continue to grow, while working with Maisie. They have all don e so well, that we will be continuing training so that Maisie can become CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certified. We are all looking forward to that!!

TYLER (5mo Jack Russell/Beagle mix) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Matthew rescued Tyler when he was 3 months old and although he has had several other dogs, he wanted to give Tyler the best chances of becoming a well-behaved, trained puppy. He also wanted to improve his own leadership skills. Both of those objectives were met! Tyler knows every basic command, both verbally and hand signals. He is quick to respond and is very focused on Matthew or myself when commands are given. He definitely wants to please! This is a very happy little guy!

JACK (2.5yr GSD). While enjoying good wine, good pizza, and good friend, Stacy, I got to visit my ex-student, Jack. He gets bigger and bigger every time I see him. He is such a love bug and hasn't lost one bit of puppy-hood. Love him!

DAKOTA (5mo lab mix) completed her Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. As you can see, Sandra and Dana are return clients. We trained Lana in 2023 (2nd picture). They recently rescued Dakota and wanted her to get the same training as Lana, who is a real sweetheart. The training went smoothly as they had already started some of the training that they remembered when training Lana. Dakota was a quick learner, learning all commands, and eliminating a few undesired behaviors that she came with (nipping, jumping, pulling on the leash). She has become a wonderful addition to the family!

APPA (1yr Pug mix) completed his Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Eric and Stephanie rescued him the first part of August. Not knowing too much about his background they decided to obtain professional help. He appeared to be easily trainable but had issues with barking and lunging on walks. He also was not used to cats (they have 3). He did great learning all the commands. Eric and Stephanie improved their leadership skills along the way. They will continue working on the walking skills and plan on inducting him into the cat's world when the time is appropriate. They all did great.

TAYLOR & MAZEL (7mo GSD siblings) completed their Puppy Basic Obedience Course yesterday. Beth and Rick rescued these girls when they were 4 months old. Since we had trained their two previous GSD's (RIP Sierra and MaKenzie) they called on me once again to assist. Having had previous GSDs, they both had a pretty good understanding of the breed. So we went through all the commands, not only teaching the puppies, but reinforcing Beth's and Rick's leadership skills. Both girls are quick learners and get to pretty much go everywhere Beth and Rick go. We will meet again in a more or so, just to touch bases. (Beth and Rick have also become good friends over the years).
