We’ve got a 98° RealFeel here at the moment — with state Heat Advisories up and everything.
While I’m sure this handsome fellow would love nothing more than to be outside adventuring — digging random holes, romping new trails, splashing in some steamy waterways… this lovebug tends to forget his age (12 years young) and will go full throttle right out of the gate without giving it another thought.
Now, altho I Am in the business of providing fun exercise opportunities to dogpals of all ages, I am NOT in the business of creating unsafe and unhealthy recreational environments by forcing dogpals to go on hike adventures when these are the weather conditions we’ve been given: 98° RealFeel, 92° RealFeel Shade, 47% humidity.
Sure, I know some secret swim spots we could play in…. But what do you do about the hike necessary to get to that swim spot? And how about getting back to the car after a Super hot hike in and some swimming (which can be tiring)??
The worst feeling ever comes when you see your dogpals pleading face bc they don’t know why they feel Too hot and suddenly very unwell….
Cue the heavy panting, tongue looking huge and lolling out the side of their mouth, eyes getting squinty, mouth open super wide…. They might be salivating, they might have diarrhea, they might start walking slower and they might even lay down.
^^That visual is what a danger zone looks like —
A dogpal that looks like this is already overheating and you’ve probably only got a short window of time before your buddy is in need of urgent medical care.
So instead, this sleepover pal of mine is happy as a clam inside where there is AC, drinking water, a doggy-door + ramp for potty breaks as needed, and enough destruction-ready dog toys to keep my pals brain busy and his youthful heart & soul content 🤗💛☀️.
